Yep, one antenna on your truck, and one for your house. We are in a ridge and we can't even get cell service here. We have towers close but our position here stops reception. I am planning on getting us a ham radio. God bless you Miss Kitty and all of yours. Tennessee Hillbilly, Out.

I don't know anything about those really, but there are two guys here that each have HAM Radios, but they have towers about 50 feet tall? I never have seen their radios, but I thought they were table top type things? I did see the one guy on the mountain top talking on his a few years ago though, so maybe they are more like yours? They are neat. I know people talk to other folks all across the country with them?

I'm a decade older than you, and it's one trick ol' dogs can learn. "The Ham Radio Prep" study books made it fairly simple to pass the test. Studied about 3 weeks off and on to get my Technician license and about the same to get my General license. Also took the emergency radio course to understand even more. Navigating the FCC website to get my FNR number was harder than the test. FNR number is needed before testing. Anyway, no big deal, but worth the effort. Nice radio y'all have and good choice on why you're doing this. KQ4PFB

Hey Morning !!! Those ham radio are interesting. I can remember about the time they came out. The signal is a line of sight. They have repeater stations from antenna to antenna. Every bit worth having.

Don't that beat all, you got a radio so you could ham it up and there ain't no ham to be had. I think you got my luck. Have a good day out there today.

I just realized, if sdhtf (d=does), people are gonna have to be brief and concise in their transmissions, imagine how crowded the airwaves will most likely be. That and that sure is a thick instruction book. Stayin tuned! 👍🤠 🇺🇸

I don't know much about cb.radio.but I remember as a kid a lot of people had pretty big entenas on your vehicle some were bent from front to back. Probably 8 feet or more on some.but I don't even know if those frequencies even work today

Get the repeater frequencies.. and learn to scan frequency.. if you have no channels programmed then you can't scan channels.. you are scanning frequencies.. which takes forever to find traffic.. look online for the channels for emergency/rescue/highway department/police/fire for your area then program them into radio.. make a list of which is which and then scan.. you'll hear when they break squelch and transmit.. monitor their traffic for wrecks and road closures etc . That's how you start and get the ball rolling

HAM is excellent, but regulated, licensed, and can get spendy and very addictive! FRS, Family Radio Service was meant to do a lot of things , like alleviate some of the costs and licensing of HAM, but give greater range and capabilities than CB. CB pretty much died, FRS seems like a quagmire, and if you go ahead and get the HAM, you can run any of the other freq's, with a LOT more power, legally, and, talk to folks globally (if the weather cooperates), and mebbe even, one eyed, purple people eaters from Pluto! Take er easy!

If you are just interested in local line of sight comms, sometimes GMRS is just as good. No test for GMRS. I use both HAM and GMRS. My GMRS radios will also scan police and fire just like my HAM radio does. K5RGW

U need an antenna for a ham up high in the air. Ham base is better to have. U can run 2000 watt linear power to it then get a directional antenna. New ham very expensive but u can find them used and if it needs fixin get it fixed. Ham jams are your best bet to get used equipment good luck idaho.

Had a couple for a few years. Still not programmed. Ham radio for dummies made me more confused. I took the sample test and got 50 percent. I had no idea what the questions were.😂All Greek to me. Haven't tried in awhile. I downloaded CHIRP to program but that was confusing.

I bought 2 radios awhile back that supposedly you could talk to people 2600 miles away, sorta like Ham radio, it has 2 channels already on it but I can’t figure out how to add more channels nor do I have any idea what or how to add um. So I just put um away till maybe run across someone that knows that stuff.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/faC5i5Jum5idhrcsi=WSglqsAEk3IuzdIP This is a great channel I have been following him for several years meow. He actually convinced me to purchase the Baofeng UV-5R8W which I got 2 of everything in order off Amazon for around 85.00. He has another video on how to program this model, maybe he has already done a video on your new radio?! Hope this helps 🙏 , have had my radios for about 3 years now and are programmed for my County dispatch ambulances and all Fire Stations.
