That's great, but I must be in crack or something because I don't know where the 5 stroke roll is, looks to me like it's just adding a RRLL of 4. If someone could explain I'd be most appreciative.

the 5th stroke is the downbeat, it is played in groups of 5, so rrllr is 5 and llrrl is 5, and a 7 stroke would look like rrllrrl or llrrllr, etc. hope that helps

@@MaddaxBattYes that's what I figured, I guess it's just how you look at it, but I'm sure you can see it's just 4 notes. The downbeat 5th stroke is really just stroke 1 of the next set of 4. When I hear 5 stroke roll this is what I think of: RLRLR, LRLRL. Similar to 3 stroke: RLR, LRL. Cheers.

@emergentform1188 yeah yeah, while you're right, if beat 1 just led into a longer roll then it wouldnt be a 5 stroke. I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure that it's called a 5 stroke because of how it naturally repeats on itself, this isnt the best medium to show but assume that no spaces means 16ths and spaces mean 8ths it repeats nicely every dotted quarter note: rrllr llrrl rrllr llrrl etc. It's also called a 5 stroke in the "core" rudiments. But not that it really matters unless you get into a public setting with other drummers, so happy drumming!
