That is Griff Rhys Jones - he was a BBC radio producer and comedy writer until he was asked to do Not the Nine o Clock News. Curiously one of the programmes he produced was Top of the Form on which a young schoolboy Hugh Grant was a contestant. Bit of comedy trivia for you. You're welcome.

Hammern28 Just as to consider and ponder, the weight of the vocabulary used and the skill in which it is, has run off a cliff in 2017 comedy. I do in my mind, while laughing at their jokes, think how good use of the English language is done in the NTNOCN and is still, in British comedy. I really hope that it doesn't erode away.

It's a crime that Not the 9 o'clock News isn't available to buy in its entirety. There are so many superb sketches left in the vaults, purely because it's believed that today's audiences wouldn't be familiar with or care about the often contemporary political satires featured on the show.
