I never really heard of this film when it was in theaters, but the first thing I heard about it when I did finally hear about it after the Blu-ray was out, was that the dog dies and that fuels the revenge plot. This many years later, it feels like as many people know the dog dies in John Wick 1 as know that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father. But I guess this isn't Mary's usual genre and some people still don't know going in.

The reason John looks so realistic and so cool in the fights (aside from the fact that it was done by a masterful stunt team, using real world tactical team techniques and Keanu basically went through months of real training) is that John is extremely efficient. No wasted movement, no style points, he kills as quickly as possible and moves on. One exception is when he didn't kill Josef in the bath. He wanted to terrify the little shit, which is why he killed a man while looking *him* in the eye. The Cinematography when this film came out was a revelation. It lets all that training Keanu and the stunt team went through breathe. The failing of basically an entire generation of US action films after the second Bourne movie (have you watched that? The Bourne series is worth your time, kind of Wick before Wick) was the quick cut editing style which was used to disguise lesser fight choreography in the edit. It was an infection that polluted the industry for a decade. John Wick gives you a wider camera angle and basically lets you *see* the action. Even The Dark Knight Trilogy as excellent as it is, suffers from this problem.
@fakecubed2 жыл бұрын
Center Axis Relock is the name of the gun fighting style he uses. Well, kinda. It's a bit niche, but has its proponents, and it seems ideally suited to the sort of close quarters gunplay John Wick engages in in this movie. John Wick certainly has popularized it, even if it takes some liberties in the film. It's all about fighting with a gun when you don't have a lot of space. Add in the realistic reloads, and the film really elevates realistic firearm use to a level never really seen before in other action movies. Stylistically, it is *choice*.
@connie77 Жыл бұрын

The guy who plays Viggo, Michael Nyqvist, doesn't get enough credit for his performance in this movie. He does such a good job of selling John's reputation as the ultimate badass because his reaction is perfect; his gradual slide into a villainous breakdown is exactly what you would expect from a character in his circumstances. He also does a really good job of delivering the lore behind John in a convincing way that actually makes it seem like he's not just trying to lay plot points out for the audience.

Not sure if you were observing the lore but the girl got Revoked and shot because you are not allowed to kill people on Hotel premises. She would have been on the run after she had axed John Wick but she instead decided to gun down someone that wasn't even her target. That's another reason John gets so much respect.
