One of the longest edits and most popular videos… this is why a lot of reactors have a Patreon, so they can afford to work with editors regardless if there is KZbin income or not. Batman The Dark Knight is the best superhero movie ever made. I can't believe they demonetized this. Nobody's watching this who didn't watch the movie in the first place. I own all three movies on Blue Ray. There is absolutely amazing script writing and acting in this movie. Heath Ledger won the Academy Award for best sporting actor. Unfortunately, it was posthumous.

“And another twist and another twist” exactly. In a modern movies world where twists are so common people are starting to guess them, they managed to give a villain that had so little direction and motive toward anything that you truly could not guess what his next move was. Not to mention Ledger sold it perfectly.

Joker is not a villain without direction in this movie. Every action was deliberate, despite him saying that he's just a dog chasing a car. Even in that speech when it came to him giving Harvey the choice to kill him or not, it wasn't a choice. Because even if Harvey chose to kill him, the jokers hand was on the hammer. Joker's entire scheme was to show batman that humans are innately selfish an immoral, which he was able to predict every action prior to the ferries.

Without question the actors and director nailed this movie. Ledger was the obvious standout but without everyone else bringing their A game, it would not have been as shockingly good. But lets also tip out hat to Christopher Nolan's younger brother Jonathan Nolan for writing such an epic screen play. If you watch Jonathan's own TV show Person of Interest, an obvious rip of the Batman story... The Nolan family has some real talent at telling a great stories.

@@rustincohle2135 Ok, so Goyer wrote the story, before anyone was attached, before the film was even give the green light. I assume you've read books that have been made into films. It's rare the two are even close. As apposed to screen plays from movies that have been made into books. Two good and trending because of xmas. Are Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Die Hard comes from an existing book that is VERY different from the film. Lethal Weapon's book is an adaptation of the screen play. So it's almost identical to the film. Goyer wrote a good story, but that is not why the film was so good. The film is great because the screen play took on what the now attached actors where bringing to the film. I love a lot of Goyer's work, but TBH, it's 50/50 hits and misses. So, why do I ignore Christoper? Because, writing the script was not his job! Did he put time in, yes. But the guy was at the same time setting up and directing a film. Which isn't exactly a small job. Jonathan was only employed to write the screen play. Do you honestly think a screen play this tight comes out of someone with a million and one other distractions? And quite frankly, Jonathan's work since TDN without his brother or Goyer has clearly shown where the credit for the screen play should be placed.

I was in tears when I saw this in the theater the first time, not so much because it was sad, but because it was just so beautiful how perfectly the whole story came together. Part of that was already knowing the comics lore going in, and knowing from the beginning that Harvey Dent was destined to become the villain Two Face, obsessed with the fairness of random chance, half his body blown to shit, so I knew, for instance, when he said "you either die the hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain"... these were prophetic words. And then, that scene in the hospital, when he picks up his double sided coin, and slowly reveals the other side is now marred and ugly, just like him, and everything that that meant because of where the coin was when it was scarred that way... just so perfect.

Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent is truly impressive acting. His descent from hero to villain is intense. To where he kills the driver so they all have an equal chance at death. Batman has to take some blame for her death too. If he had gone after the Joker first instead of focusing on the mob, then Joker wouldn't be a position to trap Rachel and Harvey in those warehouses rigged to explode. With Joker immediately locked up, Rachel would still be alive and Harvey wouldn't have become Two-Face.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know that he "ignored" them so much as he didn't have the evidence to move against them. That's part of what makes "moles" such a difficult problem in security; going after them over-zealously can create an atmosphere of paranoia and distrust that destroys your organization far more efficiently than actual moles could ever hope to do. A bit off-topic, but there's a sorta sci-fi story, I can't recall which one at the moment (something from the '70s, maybe?) in which a character destroys a totalitarian regime by implanting the idea of moles and other matters of distrust well enough to cause the structure to eat itself. The name of the supposed spy leader everyone's searching for is, IIRC, "Jacques Cuse", or "j'accuse", "I accuse", a reference to the atmosphere of universal suspicion and accusation that brought down the powerful organization without a shot being fired. Always fun when you can defeat a dictator and mock them in the process.

heath ledger was soooooo amazing. his take on the joker was nothing short of genius. just the fact that he's so scary but also charming and funny! joker LIES about everything: - where he got his scars - how he doesn't plan and he's just like a dog chasing cars... he is the ULTIMATE PLANNER joker's consistent motivation seems to be that humanity is NOT GOOD. throughout the movie, he sets people against each other to prove his thesis - when the chips are down, people will eat each other. so: - bank robbery where the team is willing to kill each other for more money - the "try outs" where he won't kill both of the guys but they're going to have to decide who lives - the ferry (TOOOOOTALLY UNREALISTIC THO... in real life, it might not be the prisoners, it probably wouldn't be the guy who said he'd do it but chicken out... it would be the MOM PROTECTING HER CHILDREN) you know the big money pile that the joker burns because bullets and gas are cheap? did you forget who was still on the top of that money pile? most people did. the joker burned lau alive!

Another aspect of the ferry test many miss is that the detonators WERE for that same boat…if one group set the bomb off, they’d kill themselves, and the other group would get the blame, no matter how vehemently they denied having done it…
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why so many people characterize the refusal to murder hundreds of people to hopefully mollify a monster enough to spare you as "weakness". Weakness would be taking the safe, easy way out. Strength is being willing to die for something greater than your fragile, temporary being. As to the "mom protecting her kids"; by making herself a monster? By telling them that there's nothing more to hope for in life than dodging the inevitable a little bit longer, no matter the cost? Seems to be fundamentally missing the point. As far as the Joker "lying", as far as I can tell, he only lies once in the entire film, and that's when he deliberately switches the locations of Rachel and Harvey, as a test. As to the rest of the film; well, he's a man of his word.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
@@trayolphia5756 Interesting theory, but I see no evidence for it, nor any reason to think the Joker is lying about the set-up (he only seems to lie the once). Plus, doesn't really work, as that one prisoner threw the detonator out the window. Hard to falsely blame the prisoners for blowing up the other boat when guards and prisoners both would swear to not having the capacity. Also doesn't seem Joker's style. He doesn't destroy people via public opinion; he destroys them by making them compromise their own moral code, because that's his point. He's not really lying when he says he doesn't "have plans", as plans (arguably) require a desired outcome. Joker doesn't do that. He creates situations, and forces people to choose. Kinda like Jigsaw, in a sense.

I'm "horror-proof" in the sense that I don't understand why movies like Friday the 13th, The Ring, and Hereditary are scary. I can't suspend my disbelief enough to get immersed in them. The theater where we saw this was at a mall. We normally park at a different entrance where spaces are easier to come by. It was the last screening and as we left the theater at about 1:30 AM, our parking lot was empty except of about three cars. The building surrounded us on three sides, and the only area we could see was the railroad tracks off in the distance; no signs of other people. We hit the doors (which locked behind us to keep us from going back in) and stepped into that lot. We were alone, in an area with one exit and no where to hide, and the feeling of vulnerability that hit me was intense. I 100% credit this movie for that. I've been on edge after an action movie before, but I've never felt like I needed to get the hell out of there when there was absolutely no threat.

I love the attention to detail in Nolan movies. The time on the timer is the actual length of time in the movie for the event to occur. Joker had his thumb on the hammer of the gun in the hospital with Harvey.

If you ever visit Chicago, you can walk along the street where the truck-flip scene was filmed- South LaSalle St where it ends at Jackson Blvd. The police van chase was also filmed in the series of tunnel streets called Lower Wacker. The truck flip was a completely practical effect, definitely worth looking up the behind-the-scenes videos on that.

Pretty much everything in this movie was practical not CGI. Including that awesome truck flip and hospital explosion. Also I’m glad you caught that joker swapped the addresses cause most people are confused the first time watching. Heath Ledgers improved the clapping in the prison and messing with the remote that blows up the hospital (the whole thing was supposed to go off but it didn’t but ledger just went along with it)

The guy playing the bank manager is William Fichtner, who also played the bank manager in Heat, which was one of the films Nolan wanted to draw on when creating the scene. Hope the video can be corrected once you're back.

Hey Mary, still loving all the reactions! When you said "no way!" when Batman hooked himself to Lao and used the plane to escape. That is actually real technology. It's called Sky Hook. They actually tried that kind of thing back in the Vietnam era. I know a lot of people have problems with The Joker's "plan" but I think The Joker describes it in the hospital. He doesn't have a plan and never did. He "just does things" to create chaos and anarchy. It action and reaction, with no real endgame in mind.
@michaelccozens
@michaelccozens 2 жыл бұрын
The Joker definitely has an endgame. He has a point to prove. What he doesn't have are "plans", at least in the sense that a plan requires a set goal. He creates situations, and makes people choose. Kinda like Jigsaw, in a way.

There are so many amazing moments in this movie from start to finish. I'm sure someone mentioned it somewhere, but the scene where The Joker blows up the hospital, they only had one chance to get that shot. When The Joker stops and kinda scratches his head, the rest of the charges hadn't gone off like they should. When they then went off a moment later, Heath nearly jumped out of his skin, but he mostly kept it in character, creating one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes in modern cinema.

2:36 - The gun-toting bank manager is played by William Fichtner, who’s kinda wasted in this role. He was a great antagonist in PRISON BREAK. 14:03 - The various scars stories are a nod to a famous Joker line from the comics, about his origin story: “I'm not exactly sure what happened. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another .... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice.” 15:29 - We find out more about Alfred’s backstory in the tv series GOTHAM, and *way* more about his backstory in the tv series PENNYWORTH. 22:39 - In the full version the Joker tells Batman “you complete me,” which is Tom Cruise’s famous line (in a somewhat more romantic context) in JERRY MAGUIRE. 25:30 - If you can’t trust the Joker, who *can* you trust? It almost makes me doubt his good intentions. 28:52 - Argh. That’s not what anarchy is. (Speaking as an anarchist.) 37:22 - Harvey turning into Two-Face is not unpredictable for those who’ve read the comics. 38:33 - That’s one drawback of the MCU movies, great as they are, is that with some obvious exceptions (e.g., Loki, Hela, Thanos, Vulture) a lot of the villains are rather forgettable - more forgettable than their counterparts in the comics. Malekith the Dark Elf, Ronan the Accuser, Kaecilius - not particularly interesting. 38:50 - Now you need to watch the 1966 Batman movie. A very funny comedy, about as different from this as you can imagine.

So there's a ton to like about this movie and I assume almost everyone will say the biggest things, but one thing I don't hear talked about very often - one of the best things about the tension in the last standoff with Harvey - in the comics, Gordon's daughter is a big character and becomes a hero herself. But he doesn't have a son. So when us comic book people are watching the movie and guessing a lot of things right because we know general characters and story, Harvey takes the boy and we go 'Uhhh damn, this kid might actually get killed.' It was cool of them to do that so we could be just as nervous as the non comic book audience and I really appreciated it.
@jp3813
@jp3813 2 жыл бұрын
That ain't universal for comic book people. For many like me, we're completely aware that Hollywood mainstream movies usually don't shoot children at point blank range to the head especially in the PG-13 superhero genre. A better setup would've been to actually kill off some kids earlier in the film so that the audience knows that all bets are off for Gordon's family.
@jp3813
@jp3813 2 жыл бұрын
@Danny Dolan That general expectation by the PG-13 audience is exactly why Hollywood usually doesn't cross that line.

The guy Joker grabs and says "you remind me of my father...I HATED my father!!" that's Senator Patrick Leahy. He's a huge Batman fan, and has also cameoed in "Batman Forever" "Batman & Robin" and "Batman v Superman". He also voice cameoed in the 90's Batman animated series. He's the Stan Lee of Batman as far as cameos go.

The truck flip is completely real and they could only do it once. The smoke coming out of the bottom of the truck is actually from the mechanism they used to make the truck flip. They also made sure to capture it from multiple angles so that the editor could have the most freedom in picking the perfect edit.

Fun fact when the joker 1st turns around at the hospital and messes with the detonator because the explosion hasn't gone off properly that is unscripted. It was meant to blow up in one massive explosion as he walked away, so Heath being a great actor keeps performing and jiggles the detonator until it finally goes off properly.

The truck flip was somewhat done before in 2003 in Terminator 3. Though it was a large crane and not a truck with a trailer, the scene was still fantastic. This truck flip was also filmed at around the same time as Death Race with Jason Statham, where a truck with a trailer was pretty much flipped as well.
