I've made this with Strawberries on the top layer and then blueberries in the bottom layer~ And the pineapple fluff like on this video for the middle layer (but I put it in those clear 9 oz. solo plastic cups) everyone just loved them!
This is such a retro, 1950's recipe! Anything "fluff" or made with jello was super popular.

Why not add flaked coconut to the crushed pineapple? I think I will do that. But then I tend to get carried away with recipes like this. I'd probably add maraschino cherries too....which would turn it into a pretty pink fluff. I might forget the angel food cake altogether!
@moviemakerwannabe5 жыл бұрын
A tip for those who are newer to cooking. It's easier to slice angel food cake with a serrated bread knife. Other serrated knives will also do a nice job. The serrated edge helps to cut through the top of the cake without compressing it. Use a gentle sawing motion it will cut through nicely and you don't have to press very hard.

I live in Canada, and we live have socialized medicine. Nevertheless, as the saying goes, there is no such thing as a free lunch. We pay for that healthcare (as bad as it is) with our taxes. When I go into emergency for a legitimate problem (the last time I went was because I had sustained a concussion), I get very angry when I see people who weigh 300+ pounds. While they're waiting to be seen by a doctor, they have gone to a vending machine and are eating a bag of chips or a chocolate bar. (The hospital is blameworthy here too, because I don't know why they have to have garbage like that available to patients.) Then, I find out that these obese people who are eating junk have come into the hospital because their diabetes is going out of control. Well, you could say that it's no skin off my nose. In fact, it is, because I am paying for the health care that they need. If they took better care of themselves, they wouldn't be such a drain on the system. As for reading these recipes, until we start reading them, we don't know what we're getting. I avoid processed foods for a couple of reasons. First, I will admit that I need to lose some weight. I take medication that causes weight gain, so I am fighting an uphill battle. Nevertheless, just to keep my conscience clear, I am very careful about what I eat. I also see a nutritionist on a regular basis. Right now, our current goal is to find sources of protein that don't cause weight gain. The nutritionist feels that my efforts to lose weight are causing me to get inadequate protein. Second, I have allergies to contend with, so I have to be super careful about things like MSG or sesame. Third, I am visually-impaired. When I am in a grocery store, I don't have the appropriate visual aids to help me read ingredients. Therefore, I do a lot of cooking from scratch. Tomorrow night, for example, I will be cooking navy bean soup. I have the dried navy beans here in my kitchen, so hopefully I will remember to soak them tonight, and I'll make the soup tomorrow. The only questionable ingredient in the soup is the hambone. Otherwisea in it are navy beans, lots of onions, peppercorns, a bay leaf, and water. Not exactly high in fat, and the protein for the most part comes from the beans. Tonight, we're having pasta Puttanesca. The only problem with this dish is that there is really no protein, unless I sprinkle some Parmesan on my portion. Therefore, for lunch, I will have raw vegetables with hummus. For breakfast, I had fresh raspberries with skim milk, and a slice of whole wheat toast with a teaspoon of butter. I don't use margarine, because my nutritionist suggested that using margarine on toast just like melting down Tupperware and spreading the result on your bread. That has put me off margarine for life😄

Too cute, my kids call mine Strawberry Fluff ( I have made it with peaches or whatever fruit I have the desire for) I use a jello, make the coresponding jell-o to the fruit. Once it has set, I add in a cool whip and then after breaking/cubing up the angel food cake I fold it all together and even the fussy folk ( including my one daughter) love it every time. I don’t layer it, but I respect your process. My kids just asked me to make that ‘fluff’ again and that’s how my Fruit Fluff was born.

Gâteau de Nantais (gat-ton De no-tay) is what my grandmother called it. She used a lemon or orange Chiffon cake very close to an Angel food cake. Lots of eggs but uses a yolk batter folded into the stiff egg whites she added Rum & Almonds to frosting and used heavy whipping cream whipped to stiff peaks. It's tedious if you whip the cream too much it becomes butter. cool whip is way easier. Frosting works with pound cake too cut in thin layers. It's wonderful, light, not too sweet.

@@scarlettvale617 yes pound cake wont hold up with having extra liquids on it. Its a butter cake. Angel food is technically a sponge cake. This dessert is awesome. When I do it, I will put 2 spoonful of filling on the bottom first. Your peace on the bottom are dry. Also, it will be super soak that angel cake pieces with milk or few drops of rum liquor to give more flavor.

My family's version of this is: cook the pudding like normal. Before it's cooled, layer the pudding, cake, and cool whip separately, and chill overnight, so the cake absorbs the pudding while it's warm and firms up before getting soggy. The mouth feel of that cake with pudding absorbed in it is AMAZING!

I have tried this before but with a little twist to it and it's very good, you can also use Mandarin oranges and maybe sprinkle a few little nuts on top use your imagination and there won't be any left out guarantee that
