Like the watercooled "old Hardware in new case" build over a year ago?
@Elliandr4 жыл бұрын
I actually built in entertainment center a few years ago out of wood specifically to house all of my gaming consoles without having to pick and choose what is connected. And it does have a cooling solution. The basic design is fairly simple, with they sent her slot for housing two HDMI switches. All the consoles on the left side going to one and all the consoles on the right side going to the other. On the bottom I have a cabinet for housing all of the wiring War I also include a voltage regulator and many surge protectors as well as a cat 7 ethernet switch. All of the consoles are networked through it. In the front right side I hand carved a space for two different usb charging boxes. The top one will charge One USB C, One USB quick charge, and 3 slower USB charging ports. The bottom one has hen USB charging ports for an older generation of charging which I included specifically because some older hard work doesn't like the faster charging. After gluing it in place I used wood putty to seal the gaps around them. In the back right side I have two HDMI ports, Each of which plug directly into the HDMI switches. Beneath that I have a set of cat7 ethernet ports in case I ever wants to plug another console in temporarily, such as friends coming over for a LAN party type of deal. And beneath that I have a set of electrical outlets which wire to the surge protectors and all the surge protectors into the voltage regulator which has a really long cable that comes out the back which means that if I unplug the whole system I can move everything on Wheels and not have to mess with wires. As far as cooling goes, I had to make some choices because my living room has a radiator behind where the TV goes and that radiator would be a bigger problem. My solution was to insulate the back using a layer of metallic bubble and a layer of foam insulation. Then I set each of the shelves to have a gap in the far back of them to allow air flow between the shelves and I put a Manhattan brand laptop cooling fan under each and every console, which has a weird angle to it so for a few of them I had to put some spare wood material under the legs in the front to prop it up which worked out. Since no more than one console would be running on either side the collective airflow keeps the air moving so the heat isn't just sitting. And it's extremely quiet too. Even though all the fans are running all the time I can never hear it. at present, my entertainment area houses an Nvidia Shield, a Dreamcast, two Nintendo switch docks, a Wii U, a PS4, a PS4 Pro, an Xbox Classic, on Xbox 360, a dream pie for the taking the Dreamcast online and all of the charging stuff I need for every console and all their controllers. my plan is to build a Similar type thing for the controllers and chargers to go to be better organized to make room for more consoles later. I'll eventually have a second Xbox 360, a second Dreamcast, and maybe I'll put my old PS3 back in. then I would have enough room remaining for 1 PS 5 . And I could get the Xbox series X as well, but I'm going to kind of wait and see beyond what Microsoft is doing since there's a reason why I never bought an Xbox One. for my office, I built a wooden box on Wheels to how's my computer tower and my UPS backup battery. For that I drilled a 4 inch hole in the back with a hole saw and installed a plug-in PC style fan on the outside which, as a prototype, worked well for moving the air although when I eventually redo it I'm going to put those fans on the inside and run a whole lot of extension cables through it. things like USB are real pain to deal with when you can't access the back of the computer, as an example. I'd also put a second fan in with the same controller just to be safe. for now though, the box is really helping because I used to keep it to the left of my corner computer desk area with my 4 monitors because there was no space to go underneath it, and now I have the room to expand the countertop so I have more area to work with instead of a lot of wasted space. It is a shame that there is no commercial version of any what I'm doing though.

6:18 - not quite! There are no proprietary controllers in the Mini Mag at all, nor are there any firmware tweaks. The 'controller' is actually just a basic passive adapter, and the 'firmware' is in fact just the firmware that ships from the factory. There is zero modification to the firmware itself. All they do for DRM purposes is copy the original manufacturer's serial number for the SSD and paste it into the Log File section of the SSD which can be freely read and written to using a standard SATA command. This is why it's unaffected by formatting the drive etc. The camera checks that the serial number matches what's stored in the Log File and if it does, it recognises it as an official Mini Mag. That's it. No firmware fuckery, just a standard SATA command being used to copy a pre-existing serial number to somewhere it isn't found fresh out of the factory.

Panda Ops it’s already out. There are actually a lot of Gen 4 NVMe out already that surpasses 2.5gbps speeds. Now I’m not saying the Xbox One X solution is bad by any means. It’s super user friendly and there is always a cost for convenience.
@itzchriz8364 жыл бұрын
@@lazzam5838 Why would the speed of the SDD matter? As long as it meets the speed of the console is good, being faster is irrelevant if it's gonna get bottleneck. Agree about the media cabinets. I have, for the past 10 years, always mounted mine to the wall. I then put some 120mm fans across the back (AC Infinity makes good that dont require additional adapters and/or that run on component USB) and exhaust up and out behind my center channel or, my latest one, directly back into the wall cavity. My latest one actually exhausts into my wall cavity that is also my return air duct for my central air handler, so that heat never actually makes it into the room, but is instead conditioned by my central system when it is operating.

With a PS3, a PS4 Pro, an Xbox One S, two NAS drives, a mac mini HTPC, Apple TV and about 6 external HDDs in my media centre, I solved airflow the easiest way possible. I left off the back of the cabinet. Makes cable management a breeze too when you don't have to route a hundred cables through the ridiculously small holes they put in the back. Eventually, the Series X will go inside too, but I'm going to be happy with having the PS5 on the top of the centre next to the TV. I think it will look good there.

The circular piece of plastic is for air flow, so if it could be removed and you forgot to put it back, maybe your console has heat problems, so the fact that it can't be removed is fine, like a anticipation that it does not happen that you forget or something like that, and that you do not spoil your own console.

@mcnet My amps have higher max power consumption than any gaming console of the past generation or the upcoming generation, and it has the potential to pull more than most people's PCs. If I were to fully crank everything in my system, I'd be looking at over 1200W of peak power draw (judging by the manufacturer rated max consumptions for each of my amps). 4:50 Linus asks if media consoles with proper cooling exist. My comment is pointing out that open air media consoles exist and they are much better for thermals than closed in designs.
@jonlaw164 жыл бұрын
@mcnet Fair point but you've still failed to acknowledge my original point - open air media already cabinets exist and will play nicer with hot electronics such as a inefficient Class A/B amps, home theater receivers, game consoles, and even something like a gaming PC.

I think it's a great device all around. Microsoft has really played all it's cards right in this run up. Just over a year ago I was in the "why would I ever need an Xbox?" camp, but I bought into Game Pass Ultimate for PC (to lock in low pricing), and have now bought/ordered two Xboxes since, to make more of my subscription. And since my PC is a few years old now, the console straight up beats it for cheap. Sure, I've begun to buy parts for my new PC, but that's gonna cost me $1500+, and it ain't gonna be 3x better. Folks will say "but a PC does more than game", yes, and I have several PCs already, but to get it to game as-good or better, I'm gonna have to spend.

Yah, because of the designs the Series X looks larger in photos than in person and the PS5 looks smaller in photos than in person. The PS5 is actually by far the larger console and most people at first thought it was the other way around.
@InChristJesus874 жыл бұрын
Just shows which one is actually better engineered.
@scarffoxandfriends94014 жыл бұрын
@@InChristJesus87 I don't think either are objectively better engineered. Xbox focused on a dual board compact design, where Sony designed there's around a single Board and used their Case design to maks the system look slimmer than it actually is, much like modern Skyscrapers. The Series X has the larger fan, while the PS5 has a larger heat sync. This should leave the two consoles have similar noise levels. The one thing about the Series X is that the heat exhaust blows directly into ones hand when your near the console, where the PS5 blows it away like previous consoles as well as having more layers between the Heatsync. So this will make people touching the systems perceive the PS5 as running cooler, though the actual internal temperatures will most likely be near the same.
@SurgStriker4 жыл бұрын
when i saw the official sony breakdown of the PS5 into parts, and realized 'holy crap, that console is wider than the guy taking it apart" it really drove home how absolutely massive the PS5 is. Seems like a terrible choice, and it's like they did it just to allow them to make it look fancier (though, i can't imagine how that thing wouldn't be wobbly if you laid it on it's side, given that it's so unevenly curved-especially the model with disc bay). But Sony knows as long as they keep paying a fortune to developers to make sure they have lots of exclusive games, they will sell consoles no matter how poorly they are designed. Could even sell them if the PS5 was only as powerful as the PS4 but had architecture that prevented new games from being played on the previous gen, as long as people knew these games they wanted only existed on the PS5 (and maybe PC after a year or two exclusivity rights went away, like they did with final fantasy)
@-SP.4 жыл бұрын
@@SurgStriker It's bigger because of the cooling solution, if you watched the video you would have known that. They are using two 120m fans along with a massive heatsink, and from the early impressions, it looks like its really working.
