The film project that the students were filming was Noli Me Tángere (Touch Me Not) which is the most famous novel of Dr. Jose Rizal during the Spanish Colonization to expose the social ills of his time and critique Philippine society. Every August, all schools celebrate Buwan ng Wika (National Language Month) that includes the culture, Philippine history and traditions. Every schools in the Philippines does filming as projects and they also just celebrate it with dancing the traditional dance, singing, and more. :))

I ran a company in Manilla in the eighties. I now live in Brisbane, which is one of the best places to live in this world of ours. I must admit, though, that my time in the Phillipines was a joyous one. The country is well worth a visit, and the people are among the friendliest I have encountered. It always surprises me that more people do not have the Phillipines on their must visit list!

"Noli Me Tangere" or Touch Me Not in English, was a nobel authored by Filipino Dr José Rizal, a Philippine hero. The novel portrays the social, political, and religious issues in the Philippines during Spanish colonization. "Noli Me Tangere" is a powerful and critical reflection on colonialism, social injustice, and the need for reform. It served as an awakening for the Filipino people and remains a vital symbol of resistance against oppression. The park was also named after him. Dr. José Rizal fought against the Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines primarily through his writings, education, and peaceful reform efforts rather than armed struggle. As a nationalist and a reformist, he used his intellect and his influence to awaken the Filipino people's sense of nationalism and to expose the injustices committed by the Spanish authorities and friars.

Those “tuktuks” are just called tricycles or trikes in the Philippines. Also, there is no risk of yellow fever there. You were probably talking about Dengue. But Dengue comes and goes. If there is an outbreak of dengue, it’s usually centered in a locality, and there will be heightened alert and announcements will be everywhere. Just wear your mosquito repellents and loosen up. No need to be super wary.

Got to forgive those who probably ignored your how-are-you's. They're not trying to rude but Filipinos are not really accustomed to small talks 😉 They'll give you smiles more than respond to how-are-you's. Another thing in the Philippines or probably in SE Asia in general, they're not accustomed too to holding doors. Hope you won't take offense if these happen.

I noticed an emphasis at @5:32 "How are you today", then "Kumusta ka" twice. No response. LOL. If any of the managers of this establishments watching, please train your staff. A little anecdote. I was a technical support for wireless routers in a BPO when the woman on the other line mentioned, "I just came back from surgery". I didn't respond and went ahead with my troubleshooting. The call was caught by the Quality Analyst and I got a "red flag" for that instance me not responding. The report said, I should have replied, "I hope you're doing fine now" or "Get well" or anything of that sort before continuing with my troubleshooting. BTW. "Kumusta" ka is a Filipinism of Spanish "Como esta".
