Checkout the field pack mk2; its 40kg carry limit, weighs 600g less and is 75L, if you dont use half the main compartment (like i dont in summer) you can clip the lid down as a "front pocket" and your head wont hit the frame (y)

This Pack is Awsome! i changed from a cheap backpack to this. Loadouts with 30kg are so easy to carry. 20kg i even doesn't feel on my back. it sits perfect on my body. I love the Pathfinder and it is a Gamechanger in my bushcraft and hiking adventures.

I've used the Mk1 tactically, with a weight well above 25kg. More like 35kg-37kg's. It's held up just fine for long time in field. Had to make some changes to the waistbelt, the chest-strap/sholder-straps (QR) and the lower pockets on the sides (things could easily fall out).

I have the TT Raid Pack MKIII and love it like you do the larger one. If the Pathfinder is too big, you'll be happy with the Raid Pack. Enough for some days and the carrying system is amazing too.

I got the field pack mk2 because its 2.75kg and 75L, also holds upto 40kg advertised. Second to this though you can fold the lid down quite far and it can become a "front pocket" instead which brings the height of the pack way down which helps avoid getting snagged when going under brush. Its good for me because i can take it hunting while staying modular and then bag my catch. If you add side and hip pouches its upto 105L @3.4kg

Great no nonsense review. I bought a Tasmanian Tiger Raid Mk III pack about 9 months ago and I absolutely love it. I'm not a military/law enforcement guy at all, but i've been hiking for about 35 years. I don't cycle my gear that often because I buy stuff that goes the distance and is highly functional. Can't recommend Tassie Tiger products enough.

I've got the TT Field Pack Mk2, the Essentials 15l day pack and two SP8 molle pouches 8l each. The build quality is excellent and the materials used are first rate even down to YKK zips and branded Cordura. The V2 harness system is excellent and by far the most comfortable I've ever used in 20 years of soldiering and 40 years of backpacking. In fact it allowed me at 54 to carry loads I actually thought I was no longer capable of. Great review and very fair. Just for the record I'm led to believe that these are issue for German SF troops so the military pack issue is pretty much mute, there are lots of different load outs required for various tasks by various units so size isn't the only issue. This is the best review for this awesome pack, this is actually my favorite, but unfortunately too expensive for me. Maybe, one day, I'll buy a used one. Nonetheless I have to correct you with the maximum load weight. The V2-system is what Tatonka uses, it's their system and these two companies are combined, I don't know how to say it in English but Tasmanian Tiger is a part of Tatonka. Tatonka says the V2-system is build to carry up to 25 kilograms, Tasmanian Tiger says it can haul up to 45 kilograms, so it would be quite good for the military. The German Bundeswehr uses this pack often. It's not the standard pack, but many soldiers get themselves this pack because of the comfort, so it's in military use.

The Field Pack Mk2 is far superior. 2.65kg empty and is designed for 40kg loads. Its a modified floating lid style bergen. Its from 13cm to 22cm shorter than the pathfinder depending how you use it. (Lid folded over front makes the frame flush to your shoulders) I have the main compartment half empty and the lid folded over the front and sinched, Its perfect for hunting or winter as i can stalk without the top of the bag snagging under thick brush as if its a 45-55L, then i can bag my catch and keep moving. Its setup in a way i can literally stuff a 35L rucksack or animal inside yet its modular to my back and allows me to tilt my head up (while the lid is down) this 'Pathfinder' pack looks uncomfortably tall in comparison and is only 5L bigger. Infact the pathfinder is 85cm tall when packed. The Field Pack Mk2 is 73cm when packed and is only 63cm tall with the lid sinched over the front.. if going through no-mans land is your thing; the least thing you want is the top of your pack snagging you back against the shrub. Also if you add the side pouches (which i dont really reccomend btw as it ruins the bags modularity) you get 95L @ 3.3kg. Add hip pouches and your around 104L @ 3.5kg.

I picked up that same pack in coyote a few weeks after you first teased us with it. LOL. I had initially gone with a Mardingtop 65L pack on Amazon based on another KZbinr's channel. Glad the Amazon return policy was so easy. I returned the Mardingtop and ordered the Tasmanian Tiger off their website on the same day. I needed a "Bubba Class" backpack for knocking around in the woods bushcrafting and whatnot. The other backpack was barely cosplay quality. This thing is built like a tank. I will be making a replacement sternum strap for mine also. I thought it was just my imagination. This thing can swallow up a military ECWS sleeping bag system, two tarps, a beefy USMC 2 man tent system, and all my other gear with no trouble at all. I can even put an AR15 buttstock wrapped in a rag down into the side pocket and secure the handguard with the pals webbing and some velcro loops. It is awesome! I'm glad I waited a bit. I really wanted a big Eberlestock pack, but saw your old video on that thing wobbling and bailed on that idea. Your videos have saved me (and cost me) a few dollars and I am happy there is a resource like yours out there. No BS, just facts. Thanks Luke!

80 L is substantial :) I like the pack and will definitely consider it! I may have to sew in some expansion on the chest/sternum strap, but I like every aspect of the pack :) I wonder though - a friend of mine was Army and he said a full load out was 85 lbs. - so I am not sure if it is the loadout that makes it military or the materials.

Outstanding review, and yes it is most definitely a military backpack. You do realize OA to the knees and back is service disability number one? Nobody in their right mind carries a ton of weight on their back. 18kg's tops, absolutely no more, and that's already an ambitious weight. You can't manoeuvre with heavy loads and you'll destroy your knees (trust me, I know what OA in both knees is and it aint no joke). Anyway, I degress. This pack is absolutely perfect for travelling backpacker/semi backpacker style in LATAM where jerking around with suit cases makes no sense whatsoever. 1. People in the transportation business (air port baggage handlers, mini van drivers, cab drivers etc) aren't considerate with your stuff at all. It gets thrown around and squeezed in all over the place. This pack is superior to the WAS X300 (another great review of yours btw) because its cordura grade is higher (700D, Warrior stuff is 500D). I would not worry about this pack being abused, it'll survive. 2. It's a perfect travel bag for moving with your stuff from accommodation to accommodation. Most of LATAM has jacked up roads and pavement practically everywhere you go and elevators are more an exception rather than the rule, so you need a sturdy built and well thought out pack. 3. I love the 3 separate compartments and immediately see use for my needs: pillow goes in the top, middle is for clothing, toiletry bag etc and the lower compartment is excellent for the dirty laundry bag and flip flops. I like to keep all these items seperate from a packing and hygiene perspective, so this pack is perfect for my specific needs. The molle on the sides is perfect for attaching the Maxpedition bottle pouches (when they'll make them in RG/OD again...) because I want water literally everywhere, and the front compartment is excellent for quickly stowing away hats and ponchos indeed. My wife loves this pack as well. It remedies all lessons learned travelling around in LATAM over the years . 10.03.2023 UPDATE: I've done painstaking research, but the sternum strap issue can be fixed aftermarket from two good COTS sources; fulltangtactical.com/collections/backpacks-accessories/products/universal-backpack-sternum-strap-chest-harness?variant=40096408862774 and eberlestock.com/products/sternum-strap-replacement-assembly?variant=16875770249267 Just make sure to ask about green. I already reached out to Eberlestock and asked for an ETA. I shall report back with their response. Update 4 April 2023. Green is available.

Firs the new microphone worked great, never would have known it was windy. The pack looks awesome and as for the handle strap hitting the back of your head, perhaps using a bit of vecro to stick it to the vecro patch area behind your head.

Great review Luke, as always. Just one thing, the loadlifters are menat to be mounted on the lower adjusters, when the person carrying it is smaller. If you sinch down the top you should have no issues with "headbobbing" :-)

I am 180 cm tall and weigh 107 kg. My chest circumference is 125 cm and I have no problems with the length of the chest strap. Chest strap works just fine. I have done several long hikes with this backpack and it's best i've ever used. I have also Savotta Jääkäri L and two different Karrimor backpacks. This backpack is awesome for heavy loads.

Nice review. Good choice for review. The glaring problem is that an 80L bag that only handles 55 lbs kinda sucks. I do prefer military bags for that reason. That's a huge pack. If you need an 80L pack, I'm sure you need a higher load capacity.

I have been using the V2 system for over 15 years on a 80 liter backpack from Tasmanian Tigers parent company Tatonka (making gear for the civilian market) and I would say that you can easily go over 25 Kg. I believe the German military is now also using some backpacks with that system. I believe that makes it real military then 😊

A friend of mine has the Range Finder MKII. It has pouches on the sides and hydration bladder pouch also. It's a beast. 100L capacity. Looks just like this but slightly different with extra pouches.

I have the Raider MKIII pack, it’s the next size down. You should give that one a review, I love it If you can’t get your hands on that, you should check out the Helikon Tex Bergen, another great pack. Tasmanian Tiger and Helikon have the best packs IMO.

The wisport is good to, i personaly miss the lumbar vertebra cushion ( im a older part ^^). But the quality of materials are very good. And you has right, the price rised up alot. So i buy the TT, otherwise the polish crew ha get the order... have a good time!

If I was going to spend serious money on a pack, I'd just save a bit more and get a Jaakaari XL. I got the Belgian M97 for a fraction of the price and it is seriously comfortable for me.

As an owner and a big fan of Savotta gear(Jaakaari S, M and L, also Keikkas S, M and L) I would strongly suggest seeing the XL in person before buying it. Thanks to it's rolltop it is like a tunnel when trying to find something inside it. Even with my L I almost dissapear in it when reaching towards the bottom. It might not be a big issue for some but for me it's a deal breaker for anything larger than the L.

Too bad they stopped making the LJK Modular, that was a perfect pack. Särmä is definitely good stuff, pretty sure it's made in Savotta factory, just more military orientated and slightly cheaper

Looks very similar to a Mountain smith frostfire 73 expedition pack I have. I've added custom pockets and have carried upwards of 80lbs in that thing comfortably. Love a bigger pack to carry all the comforts of home along with me.

Sadly the sidepockets are big, but the elastic strap is so strong and short, that a 1L Nalgene doesn't fit in it when the backpack is on your back. I think this is a big negative point.. also the helmet compartment is not really usable for smaller items, that you would want as quick access. Overall it is is still a good one.

I'm not in the market for any tactical or military gear which is a pity since you do the best product reviews on the internet hands down. I would be broke if I wanted to look like I'm still in the military service :) I really appreciate the agenda free approach you have. I do watch a lot of outdoor and hiking gear reviewers but when half of the video is how a certain company has former-olympiads as customer support, how fantastic they are etc it doesn't actually make me want to order anything from them. TT Range Pack and Raid Pack are standard issue packs in Polish special forces. For years they were using off-the-shelf packs, and now 1:1 copies of these packs are made by military contractors. The only difference is that they have fast release buckles on shoulder straps.

G'day Luke, great review of a quality product and indeed brand IMO, they've always done great stuff. This one is about twice the capacity and weight of what I need, lol. Yeah not keen on those around or above head height; a little wider and shorter makes more sense getting through the bush IMO. Tatonka uses the same carry system and have the x1 system for heavier loads. I have the Yukon with the v2 and the small waist size is a problem. The long torso is good though since on the 60L I need to set the back to it’s maximum length. In general though I love the tatonka Yukon. Amazing for relatively heavy loads

Some thoughts: TT is the tactical/military brand of Tatonka. The big selling TT backpacks habe an equivalent civilian Tatonka model. Equivalent to the Pathfinder ist the Tatonka Yukon. The new Tatonka Yukon 80 + 10 has a different carrysystem, that is able to carry more than 25 kg. And the new Mil Ops Pack 80+24 (2021 model), looks like the Pathfinder with sidebags, has the V2 system too and is able to carry 50kg. Maybe the updated the V2 system. We have to wait, how they will upgrade a Pathfinder MK3. Furthermore essenial TT backpacks are: Raid Pack MK3, Mission Pack MK2 and the Modular Packs.

I mean the v2 can handel much more than 25kg. The tt load carrier also has it and is rated for 50kg. I already used it to carry 70kg+ and there is a youtube vid of a guy carrying a 115kg tractor tire with it.

Way too heavy for me. In general dislike containers that weigh more than the contents, there is nothing I carry that weighs more then 3 pounds individually. I am looking for a 2#-4# pack. The heavier the pack, the more your gear should weigh, otherwise why carry such a heavy pack. My Kelty is too tall and I don't enjoy it, but it all depends on the bulk of the items. That strap can be easily changed with some webbing. I'll often go to a shoe repair (the older school ones, not the chain ones) if I need a backpack stitched for repair.

Looking at the ruck with a side view kinda reminds me of the ILBE ( a plainer version of an ILBE anyway ). The ladder type shoulder harness adjustment system reminds me of that on the Dutch Alpine Saracen ( which you did a review on years ago ), and that is a great military ruck that is capable of carrying much more than this ruck and at a much better price tag. That said, the Tasmanian Tiger is a civilian ruck and, like you said, I always hear really good things about Tasmanian Tiger gear of all kinds

Hey Luke another great review. You are my Go to for reviews. Don't discount the military applications of this pack. While it may not see widespread issue, I bet some of the snake eaters might use it. They usually don't travel with 80-100lbs on their back. Their loadouts are much lighter.

Looks like the grab strap is what's most likely to touch the back of a person's head.. Might be a way to secure the strap out of the way to reduce that. I imagine the "touching" would be most noticeable/annoying when wearing a hat with brim all the way around.. but if the grab loop were secures (perhaps a thin strap with velcro or similar) would probably be less likely to bump the hat?

Regarding the weight limit, I'm currently holding the new 2023 Tasmanian Tiger catalog, in there they have an overview of their different carrying systems for backpacks and the V2 of the Pathfinder is said to be for loads up to 40 kg or 88 pounds. Maybe that helps someone.

It kinda looks like the savotta jääkäri xl, but I do belive the Savotta will be able to carry much more weight because it´s really rugged. I love Tasmanian Tiger and have the old version of the "TT Mission Pack" in my car as a GHB Thanks for the video!

Take a look at the Berghaus Vulcan 2 Bergen. 80l pack with 2 10l optional side pouches. It is pretty much the same as the British Army Bergen only in olive drab. G they are indestructible and you can pick up excellent second hand one for about £60 ($100).
