When I was doing high end furniture, it was so hard to explain how much work went into curved stuff. Wish this video was around back then. Love how you made the arched stiles out of solid to match the curve of the rails, That was slick!! Love the video, almost makes me want to go make some more curved stuff, maybe I can get time soon.

Stunning. I particularly like the pippy oak pattern being bookmatched at the top of the unit. Most of us makers would have probably gone for center but being at the top is a really nice touch 👍👍👍

Cheers keith, Yeah it was a tricky piece as the burr was right at the end of the slab, so couldnt use in the middle. It took ages to find a suitable layout that didnt look odd

That whole corner looks great top to bottom, hours and hours of work no doubt but well worth it in my opinion . The videos are huge help to anyone looking to do curved cabinets because you break down the job into manageable steps . So good that no cnc used and it all comes together just fine. Woo hoo.........I didn't get lost in this one! All joking aside for the moment Ollie, I think one thing that gets slightly overlooked in the comments section is how many times you tweak and improve on designs/processes and are then willing to pass them on for the benefit of others. I have absollutely no background whatsoever in woodworking (as you can probably tell 🤣) and will never use any of the useful info but I find your videos highly entertaining and satisfying to watch. Your customers must be chuffed to bits with your work! Thanks very much!

One is left with the impression that this had to have been created by a sculptor rather than an expert artisan cabinetmaker such as yourself. Your workmanship in every regard is peerless. Did you follow a set of mathematical or simple arithmetic rules in computing the measurements? Or, did you simply create a bespoke mold 'on the fly' to shape the elements in situ within the space? For the purposes of historical restoration, you might want to alert the Royal Household! Thank you for posting these videos. In themselves, they are notable for the illustration of the process as well as for the mysteries that guide you. Your precision is just unbelievable!

Haha thankyou very much John! Such Kind words. The under cabinet height is determined from tried and tested measurments then tweaked to the customers desire, then it was quite difficult to make the tall ceilings work! It is all drawn on Sketchup, to every last detail to make sure it looks right before starting. Its a lot quicker to do it on there than in real life haha! Haha by royal appointment would be nice!!! I dont really know what to say in reply to your kind words, but want you to know that they are well received and go a long way to making the effort of filming and editing worthwhile!

Unfortunately it takes a very long time to learn to do this stuff and the rewards for all that time are less than other careers where you don't get messy or work every hour god sends haha

It takes me back to my joinery days. I had similar machines, other then a bag press. Making anything curved is time consuming. You need a special customer to pay for that. We made a few nice bits for the Swiss Bank, even they raised their eyebrows sometimes. Bottom line we never got rich on the back of them. All the same a very nice job.

I just love these videos, I watch them a half a dozen times just to take things in wishing I could do that, but must admit to falling asleep a couple of times (it's an age thing). Is it just me but I enjoy hand sanding lol 😆.

🍻 Cheers Gavin. Pretty much any glue yeah. Depends on application. some want really rigid glue for laminations, others waterproof, quick setting using heat..... Ive used, PVA, PU and UF resin so far.

I try to keep the funds available when i need/want a new machine and keep a keen eye for a bargain. The biggest cost would be the space to put them in so ideally, want to have it productive from day 1, not an easy thing to achieve!

It seems to be well appreciated, I think the results of modern practices/shortcuts are starting to show throught and gain awareness so there is most certainly a good client base for people with the knowledge and attention to detail. Most people start in their garage/workshop/shed with smaller machines and if it starts to work then expand. 🙂
