Just found your channel. I love listening to ol' red pulling a load down the road. I'm 45 and grew up doing farm work and everyone back then had old 3/4, 1 and 3 ton chevy's with SB and manuals, some 2 speed rears also. No fancy diesel's back then.

Watching ol Red work reminds me of the days when I was a kid. My Dad worked maintenance for a small school district in South KC, all they had were square body chevys with 350s and they worked them to death. And the reason i love em. Great video.

New trucks have 400hp this has less than half and still getting after it.

The fact is aerodynamically it only takes 70-100hp to push a truck down the interstate. Everything after that is gravy.

Yep, my 2.7l 4 cylinder Silverado has 310 hp and 350 ish lb ft of tq. Pulls my 9,200 lb trailer great. Is it as tough as these old 350’s? Probably not. I guess to have a 1 to 1 comparison we would have to get one into a dually… not sure that will ever happen though.

Im thinking an auto trans might not be able to pull this off? There is a C30 with dump bed for sale near me but with an auto. Says he pulls a skid steer with it.

Think you were pulling around 14-15k? I have an 89 C3500 dump and having trouble finding it’s towing capacity. I’ve read as little as 10k and as much as 16k, so figure it’s gotta be good for 14k.

Redline is only , what, 4000 or so right? I have a ‘75 k20 same setup. Bought as a plow truck. 350 4 bbl, 4 speed. Stock hp/torque I believe to be 175/275. Torque peak is lower in the band and with the right gears pulls nice and hard.
