First United Tactical just did a pack out bag radio project using the Radioddity, 3Ah battery and Abbree antenna so naturally I had to search the NaR archives for a review. I like the flexibility of being able to pair it with a mag mount antenna and quickly switch vehicles but it sounds like the DB's power output takes a big hit once you turn off the engine. Not sure the few extra watts is worth giving up the ability to transmit on ch 8-14. Think I'll save up for the Wouxun.

@paaao3 жыл бұрын
Another thing that will ruin your radio pretty fast, is mounting/setting it on your dashboard, or some other very hot place. 40-50 watts tx on a little mobile radio, makes a LOT of heat. Add more heat from the sun, or other sources, and begin transmitting, and I guarantee your radio will be fucked in no time.

Thanks for the vids, your style kicks ass!
@W2IRT3 жыл бұрын
Look at an NMO base trunk lip mount and put it on the hood. It has two pointy set screws that physically attach it to the metal. Look for a good wide-banded UHF mobile antenna or one that can be cut to 462 MHz according to a tuning chart. Get one that has about 5dB of gain and you're all set. Diamond, Larsen, and Comet are good names. Conversely if you don't mind drilling a hole in your roof, you'll get the best possible performance. Use a specialty hole saw made specifically for antenna installations. Antennx HS-34 will do the job. radio-accessories.com/HS34.aspx

Question. IF I was to mount a radio like this in my truck and have a 5w hand held in my wife's car would that extend the talking distance between the two over having a hand held in each vehicle? Or would be still be restricted distance wise by the hand held?
@W2IRT3 жыл бұрын
It would help for sure, but the 5W HT will be your limiting factor, especially if you are using the "rubber duck" antenna on it. A mobile antenna mounted correctly will increase what you can hear, and the higher power will enable the HT to hear the mobile from a greater distance. But the problem will definitely be the mobile hearing the portable. I wouldn't do it unless you plan to be within a half-mile of each other all the time.
