I compare all 50-Watt wideband mobile GMRS radios on the market as of April 2022. The BTech GMRS 50X1, the Wouxun KG-1000G and the Midland MXT500 - so that YOU can decide which one is best for YOU.
One thing I left out of the video is that all 3 of these mobile GMRS radios give about the same amount of FARS when transmitting at a full 50 watts. I left this out of the video because I know that nobody ever bothers to read the info-section, and it will be fun to make fun of the ones that ask "which one transmits the most FARS?"
You can get a BTech GMRS 50X1 or read more about it here: amzn.to/3LigLSl
You can get a Wouxun KG-1000G or read the specs here: www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-1000g.html?cmid=amsreGRvTmttM0k9&afid=MTc0SmRGN2tRQW89&ats=RkhyUkN3S2s5aHc9
You can get a Midland MXT500 or read more about it, here: amzn.to/40cvqXx

Brand new to GMRS Communications, as I have not used my first purchase of two (2nd gen) Tidradio H8 GMRS HANDHELD RADIOS . Trying to set up a more powerful base station (Hurricane Season is around the corner)and considering the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Base / Mobile radio. So my question is do these different brand GMRS devices communicate with each other? Also, if using the Wouxun DWC30WIN 30A Switching Power Supply, I’m in trouble understanding which antenna would be compatible? Thank you for your videos and hand gestures 😊

As an expert I can tell you that Btech would have achieved correct power ratings if he had simply used the "marker recalibration" technique. It's very simple and it's the standard technique for testing the cheap Chinese radios. You simply cross out the old power readings and draw in the "correct" power readings. Using this technique I got 1500 watts out of my Baofeng HT. This is very similar to how cheap lithium batteries are tested. In that case you see how many numbers you can fit on the batteries with the term "Mah".

So to simplify for a lay-person, such as myself, you are saying the following. All that needs to be done is to combine the point nucleus radius with cosign of the antenna's dynamical system? Well why did he just say that in the first place? 🤔

Thank you so much for this excellent comparison! I particularly appreciated information such as which radios are SOC and which are super heterodyne. I also appreciated learning things like the Midland doesn't even have channels 8 through 14 and has limited reception frequencies, and that the Wouxan can receive much higher frequencies. Definitely an excellent comparison!

Great video, I just recently got myself a mxt500 after I got my gmrs license, with the stock 2 DB antenna I was able to clearly hit a repeater 12.5 miles away, no LOS, threw about 12 miles of mountains. Was very easy to setup and program.

Not a Rubicon is costing me quite a bit of money these days. I was never a radio dork but he has a way of making you dork out. I just began construction of my base station command center in the corner of my bedroom, that I fought my wife for control over, So I can command over my 1 1/5 acre lot. Very quickly my 5 year old daughter put all her toy vegetarian stuff on my base station desk and claimed it as her Veteran Command Center. So now a battle has begun.

From previous reviews of the KG-1000G on your channel, I am replacing my MXT400, just waiting on that slow-boat from China... I have owned a B-tech 50x2 for over 2 years and have it programmed it with CHIRP for GMRS, Ham 2 meter/70 cm and MURS. I am getting over 60 watts output on MURS and a little over 50 watts with 2 meter and close to 50 watts on GMRS and 70 cm. I have programmed 4 other B-tech 50x2 radios for members of our MAG with similar results. We can directly communicate up to 20 miles across a lake without a repeater, and around 12-15 miles over hilly terrain with our rooftop antennas that vary from 30 to 55 feet above ground level using GMRS, Ham or MURS.

My BTech 50X1 started having a major clarity / readability issue after about a year. Peoples on the other end were having a bad time with what I was sounding like. A replacement microphone did not fix the issue. Have since ripped it out of my truck, and delegated it to the pile of useless toys I’ve spent countless thousands of dollars on attempting to filling the hole in my heart. I cannot for the life of me figure out where Midland thinks the MXT500 is worth $400. Even with a dinky antenna. I would happily pay $250 for it. No more. And so, I will leave that radio the the “$95,000 Jeep I can’t actually afford,” people to have. I didn’t even know about the Wouxon G model. Maybe I will try that next.

I watched your videos before deciding on which GMRS radio I was going to purchase. I made my choice for the Wouxun KG-100G based on the detachable faceplate and it has a wide range of frequencies to scan. It also seemed the most user friendly, esp once you buy the data cable and program it with the Wouxun software, it's much like CHIRP. Any who, keep up the great videos and commentaries, really enjoy it. Stupid people do get annoying.

My choice would be the KG-1000 hands down for 2 reason. It being Superhedrodine and being able to receive more frequencies including Ham. It would be nice during an emergency to have longer legs to reach out and listen to the radio waves, even if I can’t talk back, though I can in an emergency with a radio that can do that (without a Ham license). Only thing is, I’m not sure if I can get a big antenna that will pick up GMRS and Ham. I would think you could though because my Wouxun UV9GX pics up GMRS, FRS, MRS, AM Air Band, and Ham. Maybe I missed one. Anyways, awesome radio. Used his affiliate link and the discount code worked. Awesome, awesome, awesome radio. After going from a Baofeng to a Wouxun, it’s hard to consider anything else. They are just top notch equipment.

Lotas static from the motorcycle. Was using the "tape measure" antenna. Maybe the magnetic Nagoya would be better. But what Randy said about the superheterodyne Wouxun KG-1000G dealing well with interference makes me think it might work better on the motorcycle. And it can be turned into a router in the future.

I had the Midland MXT system in the past and the ease to swap is one aspect so trying to see how this would be with the KG setup as the mount bracket seams like it is not a quick release type system like Midland.

Howdy, the new to the gmrs/ ham technology. My question is is it possible to buy a base unit for 50 Watts that canthat can transmit ham and GMRS? I’m just totally ignorant in this department. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Coming from my experience with the ham version of the btech uv50x2... Major gripe- Quad band receive... You can monitor 4 channels but there isn't a way to silence the other channels so if two stations are going at a time it's a pretty big headache requiring you to flip through to the channel you don't want to hear and changing it to a free channel and then running back to the one you want to talk on. Even bigger headache if 3 or 4 channels come up while you want to talk. Power- the ham radio version is rated 60w, I'm getting 89w out of mine... I'm surprised you only get 30.

I like the channel. I am looking to add a permanent mount unit for my Bronco and this was a good explanation of the three 50W options. Interesting difference with SOC vs. discrete components. Now on to your antenna shoot out 🤤

I was able to modify a HF-1K Linear amp to boost the UV-5R and the MXT500 to 1KW power in my car. Had to use a long 10G extension cord to power the amp but after the sunburn I was about to communicate to mars via GMRS. Musk Says hello.

Having a squelch that operates well is a real benefit if you have others in the car. I have several UV-5R radios including one in each car for anytime comms. When I put a nice radio in the car for trips, it has a better squelch circuit that doesn't break open with static for no real reason. This is my major complaint about the radio. From the sounds of the comments in the video, this makes the Wouxon my choice. The others have the SOC receivers (like the UV-5R) that are not as selective. To other favorite viewers (I thought I was special, but maybe not): Try listening to our very knowledgeable host at 1.5X playback. After all, he doesn't want to waste our time 👨‍🎓

I am a brand new licensed GRMS radio user. I have been watching your videos on mobile GRMS 50 watt radios. I know you put the bTech radio's in your jeeps. I also watched this review of the 3 available 50 watt mobile radio's and thought I heard a tad bit of remorse in you choice of radios in your jeeps. Having used them for a short while, are you going to leave the bTech's in your jeeps or are you going to pony up for the Wouxun KG-1000G+? I do not want to put radios in my jeeps that are not the best. Should I spend the extra money for the Wouxun or are the bTech's the best product for the amount of $$ spent? I am not sure I want to listen to bleed over or static from a squelch that is hissing all the time. What do you recommend? I am also not too keen on paying X for a 50 watt radio and only getting around 30 or so watts on the power meters. That kind of pisses me off. RE: the bTech.

I was more happy with the KG-1000G than I was with the BTech.. Better circuitry, easier to read screen, remote-mount head, and a full 50W..

Thank you for your videos and hand gestures 😊 Re-submitted. trying to figure out Comments also
