Brand new to GMRS Communications, as I have not used my first purchase of two (2nd gen) Tidradio H8 GMRS HANDHELD RADIOS . Trying to set up a more powerful base station (Hurricane Season is around the corner)and considering the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Base / Mobile radio. So my question is do these different brand GMRS devices communicate with each other? Also, if using the Wouxun DWC30WIN 30A Switching Power Supply, I’m in trouble understanding which antenna would be compatible? Thank you for your videos and hand gestures 😊

As an expert I can tell you that Btech would have achieved correct power ratings if he had simply used the "marker recalibration" technique. It's very simple and it's the standard technique for testing the cheap Chinese radios. You simply cross out the old power readings and draw in the "correct" power readings. Using this technique I got 1500 watts out of my Baofeng HT. This is very similar to how cheap lithium batteries are tested. In that case you see how many numbers you can fit on the batteries with the term "Mah".

My BTech 50X1 started having a major clarity / readability issue after about a year. Peoples on the other end were having a bad time with what I was sounding like. A replacement microphone did not fix the issue. Have since ripped it out of my truck, and delegated it to the pile of useless toys I’ve spent countless thousands of dollars on attempting to filling the hole in my heart. I cannot for the life of me figure out where Midland thinks the MXT500 is worth $400. Even with a dinky antenna. I would happily pay $250 for it. No more. And so, I will leave that radio the the “$95,000 Jeep I can’t actually afford,” people to have. I didn’t even know about the Wouxon G model. Maybe I will try that next.

I have owned a B-tech 50x2 for over 2 years and have it programmed it with CHIRP for GMRS, Ham 2 meter/70 cm and MURS. I am getting over 60 watts output on MURS and a little over 50 watts with 2 meter and close to 50 watts on GMRS and 70 cm. I have programmed 4 other B-tech 50x2 radios for members of our MAG with similar results. We can directly communicate up to 20 miles across a lake without a repeater, and around 12-15 miles over hilly terrain with our rooftop antennas that vary from 30 to 55 feet above ground level using GMRS, Ham or MURS.

My choice would be the KG-1000 hands down for 2 reason. It being Superhedrodine and being able to receive more frequencies including Ham. It would be nice during an emergency to have longer legs to reach out and listen to the radio waves, even if I can’t talk back, though I can in an emergency with a radio that can do that (without a Ham license). Only thing is, I’m not sure if I can get a big antenna that will pick up GMRS and Ham. I would think you could though because my Wouxun UV9GX pics up GMRS, FRS, MRS, AM Air Band, and Ham. Maybe I missed one. Anyways, awesome radio. Used his affiliate link and the discount code worked. Awesome, awesome, awesome radio. After going from a Baofeng to a Wouxun, it’s hard to consider anything else. They are just top notch equipment.

Coming from my experience with the ham version of the btech uv50x2... Major gripe- Quad band receive... You can monitor 4 channels but there isn't a way to silence the other channels so if two stations are going at a time it's a pretty big headache requiring you to flip through to the channel you don't want to hear and changing it to a free channel and then running back to the one you want to talk on. Even bigger headache if 3 or 4 channels come up while you want to talk. Power- the ham radio version is rated 60w, I'm getting 89w out of mine... I'm surprised you only get 30.

Having a squelch that operates well is a real benefit if you have others in the car. I have several UV-5R radios including one in each car for anytime comms. When I put a nice radio in the car for trips, it has a better squelch circuit that doesn't break open with static for no real reason. This is my major complaint about the radio. From the sounds of the comments in the video, this makes the Wouxon my choice. The others have the SOC receivers (like the UV-5R) that are not as selective. To other favorite viewers (I thought I was special, but maybe not): Try listening to our very knowledgeable host at 1.5X playback. After all, he doesn't want to waste our time 👨🎓

I bought the midland MXT575. Installed it. Got a GMRS license. Tried to program it to use my local repeater. Found out the input/output tones for my repeater aren’t a “preset” tone on the radio. There is no way to program the input tones I need so now I’m shopping for a new radio after spending $399 on the midland. Long story short if you want the midland, read the manual and check that the input tones on the presets are the ones your repeater will require if hey aren’t listed then don’t buy.

I'll give you a pass on this one.. any "real" GMRS radio should support ALL of the standard tones and one should not have to read through the documentation to see if a radio actually does what it should do. Even I got bit by this issue when setting up my repeater - I had to change the tones almost immediately when several people with Midlands complained they could not use my repeater because of the tone I picked. In Midland's defense, they make radios more for non-radio dorks that use simple "simplex", and repeaters seem to be kind of an afterthought.

@@TheNotaRubicon I appreciate all of your videos man. I’ve learned a lot from you. I clicked on your affiliate link because I thought I would look into the Wouxun KG-1000G and noticed that it’s been replaced by the new model. Not sure if that affects your kick back or not. Just fysa. Thanks for all of the content!

6:36 I knew what you SAID and I also knew what you MEANT. My brain just dealt with it. Not unlike conversing with my Sweetheart. She doesn't understand that, like in music, I am on ones and threes and she is on twos and fours. Together in marriage since June 1974. I was 20 and she was 18. She doesn't understand my brand new 2022 Jeep JL RUBICON XR with the new 50W GMRS radio installed. Gotta keep 'em guessing.
