@@NotAScratchGolfer A big reason was I had weekly private golf lessons for six months (first half of the year) and cleaned up my swing. But you also inspired me to work hard at 100 yards and in. I started renting a golf hole at a local club and just hitting wedge shots/pitch shots/chips for hours from different spots. I also found a putting system that really helped me dial in distance control. I do feel a bit of imposter syndrome though - which I believe you mentioned before. Those last two points came recently after some good scores on really tough courses. It makes me feel like the single digit moniker isn't quite earned or in stone yet.

breaking 80 at Tobiano is every bit daunting. The video and the pictures don't do this course justice: long carries over ravines, pinched landing areas, subtle greens. This course is as difficult as it is beautiful. Any of you gents out there that want a great "Boy'z Trip" you can't go wrong with Tobiano. Oh and for you anglers watching, some of the best lake and stream fishing i've ever experienced. British Columbia does an amazing job of maintaining their fisheries. Kamloops lake is 18mi long by 2mi wide by 500 feet deep--massive lake trout in there.

Great round! These are the ones we play the game for. I’ve had my best year of golf ever and the mental tips you offer have really helped. Just shot another sub 80 round the other day (5 so far this year) and kept the 3 keys in mind: keep it in play off the tee, tidy within 100 and no 3 putts. What’s your career low again? With some better second shots, this easily could’ve been there for you
@NotAScratchGolfer Жыл бұрын
Good stuff, Hayden! My career low is 66 but that was at 5,300 yards so it gets a bit of an asterisk. My best round on a championship course was 71 at Pacific Duns.

I think this is what is kind of missed when they say driver is the most important for lowering your handicap. They are always talking about adding length. I think it's more about putting the ball in play. I don't actually have a driver in my bag right now, but if I am having a good day off the tee keeping it in places that aren't difficult to hit from, I score very well. And your best rounds on youtube often have that in common. The straighter you hit it, the better your score usually.

Lol fair comment. In this particular round I hit a lot of good golf shots. But there are many days when I go out there and knuckle it around too!

Yeah first thing to get good at is strike. Once you get good distance and decent dispersion (ie you can hit shots in the general direction you intend), THEN it’s all about course management.

Hey Adam - Could you explain why your playing partner had to put first while you were furthest away @ 09:00? You mentioned he went OB, but I thought the player being the furthest away always putted first?

In team match play, whichever team is furthest from the hole plays first, but either player on that team can play first. Jason was already going to make a big number (having gone OB from the tee), whereas I still had a look at par, so he putted first to show me the line.

I'm planning a trip to Vernon. What 5 courses should I be looking at? Predator, tobiano, tower ranch are on the list. Thx in advance for your advise.
@NotAScratchGolfer9 ай бұрын
Hey there! Those are all must plays in the region, but keep in mind that Tobiano is a fair ways away from Predator and Tower Ranch. If you're willing to cast your net that wide, I would add Sagebrush to the list. Predator has 36 holes so you already have five courses between those. If you want a break from mountain/resort golf, you might want to consider adding Harvest to your list. Others to consider would be Okanagan Golf Club (I think the Bear is great, not hugely fond of the Quail), Gallagher's Canyon, and Shannon Lake. If you can get out to Kelowna Golf & Country Club (it's private but I believe there are ways to get on), I hear it's great, too.

My one disagreement is you are more than "tidy" with the putter. You are highly-skilled with the putter and that is where you separate yourself from the mid-handicappers. You make one putts where they make two and make two putts where they make three.

You are downplaying your putting. It's crazy how many putts you can hole. Also you drive like 270 yards, most people don't go further 220. Again you are really downplaying your ability. Most people will not break 80 not because they don't have the right mindset but it's just they don't have the ability. How many times you chunk balls three times in a roll? How many time you had bad contact with you driver and it goes 50yards? Got be realistic. It takes a lot meaning a lot consistency. All amateur dream of all but for most its just a dream.
