NoteQuest - Part 1 - Basic Rules

After the amazing game, "Ronin", we take a look at another gem from Brazilian designer Tiago Junges - "NoteQuest", a Solo Dungeon Crawler that becomes so much more than just a simple dungeon delve!!

Part 2 - Expanded Rules
Random generation of characters, dungeons, enemies, treasure, traps etc, all leads to a huge variety of games to enjoy.
Your character can be one of many Fantasy races and classes.
The Dungeon you explore could be one of many types, Crypts, Tombs, Temples..... each one different from the last.
And when you are ready, the game expands to cover the world outside the Dungeon, where exploration can bring riches or ruin, ultimately to your death or dominion of the land!!

Exactly the kind of game I've been looking for! Only 1 character to deal with, as opposed to 4AD, and although I like D100 Dungeon & World Builder, sometimes I just want something a bit simpler and quicker to play. This ticks all the boxes for me. I'm so new to all of this and only discovered solo rpg's this week. I wanted to start 4AD but this looks more simple for me to start and learn... Definitely thx to your very good explanation video!! Love it. Definitely going to check fb for your sheets. The layout for printing the way you suggested, all dungeons on 2 pages, you just manually do in the pdf? I'm not good with computers 😑😂

Hi duploh, many thanks for watching and the kind words. Notequest is very easy to learn and is a great way to start in this area of gaming. However, you must also try 4AD and D100 Dungeon later on. All 3 games are must-plays if you enjoy Solo gaming!! Regarding the pdf layout, the way to get the pages in the correct order is just to be careful and think before you print! That way you will get the Dungeons on the 2-page spread when you open the book. I know you will love the game, just be warned, it is hard...... so far I haven't had a character survive more than 1 Dungeon LOL

@@IthaquasBane oh thx. Yeah today i tried Alone against the flames, no dungeon crawler, but i liked it. 4AD may be a bit to overwhelming for now... Not sure. Also interested in Ironsworn, but that's even more complicated or at least a lot of reading 😅. Or Fabled lands... Def gonna check some info/videos on D100 tomorrow. Thx for the reply.

@@duploh "Alone against the Flames" by Chaosium, or "Alone against Fear" by Ganesha? Yeah I loved Alone Against Fear. The character in my YT series is much missed!! In terms of simplicity: NQ then 4AD then D100 then Ironsworn and other 'proper' RPGs. 4AD also has a HUGE amount of expansions, I will have a series on 4AD soon..... once I can find time on the schedule!! My next videos will be on another nice little game you might want to have a look at........ clue: RD!! 😁

@@IthaquasBane i played 'alone against the flames'.... The other, 'against fear' was next on my list. Oh thx for the difficulty meter 🙂, so 4ad before d100 or Ironsworn, good to know. I did see the many expansions on 4ad and 4 chars, lots to track... So i felt a bit overwhelmed as a newbie. Ironsworn sounds great and long and free to fantasize perhaps? But massive rule/textbook and prob a lot of details for a beginner. Super, i'll keep an eye in your channel for future content 😉. Enjoy

I have this now. Looks cleaner than 4AD (which I will always love). Have your tried spiral bound versus this comb binding? It’s so much nicer and smoother to turn the pages.

When you beat the Boss in the Final Room it indicates that there is 2d6 treasures with him. I take that to mean a roll of 2d6, add together & the result is that many rolls on the Treasure Table & not two 1d6 treasure rolls. Is this correct?

@@IthaquasBane Me too, just now finished a tomb. "Tomb of the Secret Curse." At first I thought that was too much treasure but once I rolled all eight of them, it felt good :). The notables are a Vampiric Sword & a Vorpal Axe. Finished in two sessions. First session I played according to the rules, second session I changed it up & played more freeform. I don't think I would have survived the Skeleton Rat King (I made him a Ratman since the dungeon is in my current world) if I used the official rules for the final room & boss. My dwarf was able to gather a few health potions which really helped him in that first session.

How do you compare Note quest vs 2D6 Dungeon?

Notequest is a much simpler system and I find it to be faster to play... and usually to die with!! It also has a world builder in the 'expanded' rules allowing a bigger experience. 2D6 Realms will be coming soon-ish which will add above ground exploring. I would definitely recommend Notequest first for a new player or for someone looking for a quick game, and 2D6 Dungeon for their next step, before moving on to 4AD and D100.
