UK's Government Made a Discord Server...

It went VERY poorly! Yall basically raided a government Discord server.
So if you haven't been up to date on twitter or on the Discord news, the UK government's economic and finance ministry (which has control of public spending), wanted to be more hip with the kids and made a Discord Server. And who could have thought that would turn into a disaster! People spamming statuses and hoisting their name, and spamming hilarious reactions.
I never ever in my lifetime would have typed out the words "Discord users raided a government Discord server".

I don't know a lot about taxes, but this seems to be the consensus between people more knowledgeable than me. It's also in line with what I expected before doing some research. 2. In terms of healthcare, in 2019 (the last pre-pandemic year), the UK spent a total of £225.2 billion, equating to £3,371 ($4,010) per person. (Figures from the ONS.) Whereas the US spent $3.8 trillion in 2019, or $11,582 per person. Of course, these are averages and in the UK, you'll contribute more to fund the NHS the more you earn. But on average, under the UK's single-payer system (the National Health Service), $4,010 was spent per person, compared to $11,582 per person under the US system. Despite this additional spending, the US system has worse health outcomes than the UK one. 3. Finally, although you didn't ask how we feel about all that, I think it's worth noting that "Three-quarters of UK adults have a favourable view of the British health care system, while half of Americans have a favourable view of the U.S. system". So yeah, we pay more in taxes, but we pay less overall, and we're reasonably happy with the fundamentals of the system currently in place. (Those words were chosen carefully, as there is certainly concern about the UK systems' current condition, but that's far outside of the scope of your question.) In the interests of transparency, I quite like the current system and, despite its current issues, I would choose it over the US system. I think it's survived for so long because put simply, it (for the most part) works. As a developer who has worked on a lot of government projects the last few years; even jokes made about the existence of a Government Discord is still good publicity for the current administration 😅 Also worth noting that, while only the read-only stuff is public, there is private channels with active communication. Usually in the result that Slack, Microsoft Teams, or Outlook go down (the latter two of which happen far too frequently). So in reality it's another point of inter-office communication, just with a public-facing section to boost publicity.

Part of the problem with stuff like this as that besides being bad, some people might actually want them to do this (however small that number may be). The problem is that their implementation leaves a lot to be desired and they're big enough that the number of people willing to clown on them is significantly higher than any number that ever wanted that as a service to begin with. Idk I think It would be nice to see a government discord, as someone who Is a daily driver of discord, the ability to keep up with government News without having to watch the news would be great! I didn’t even know who the new prime minister was till I checked KZbin News feed and saw Riches name. And there’s a few other things It’d be nice to see government based discords about, such as local police, local emergency services, an NHS discord (they have enough administrative staff to make one), a Army discord would be kinda cool, just places to get all the news for what you want and for nothing else.
