A very underrated horror/comedy hybrid and it's one I feel has been treated poorly due to how horrible some people think it is. It definitely is one of a kind, as in it is in a league of its own. The best way to look at it is well...it's like a Tales From The Darkside and Tales From The Crypt episode. In particular the latter since there was a Tales From The Crypt episode with a plot very similar to it.

It’s a kinda weird niche movie. Which led to it being a commercial failure. They had a 40 Million dollar budget, went 5 million over, and then only made 8.4 million back at the box office. It was a high dollar production for an oddball movie that was too weird for most people. Those of us that like it are the ones who actually get it.

I drove through a town in Georgia that dropped the speed limit 10 miles an hour in their town. I got pulled over and cited because I didn't have my insurance on me. Later that month I showed up to the court date and waited while the judge handed out five years to a person without batting an eye. I was terrified. But my paperwork was in order and the case was dismissed. I never forgot the feeling of dread as the Judge called out my name.

What's crazy is there really were still large aristocratic Dutch estates along the Hudson River as late as the 1830s that were still run like "feudal" manors as mentioned here.
