Metallica is an American heavy metal band. The band was formed in 1981 in Los Angeles by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career. The band's fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. Metallica's current line-up comprises founding members and primary songwriters Hetfield and Ulrich, long-time lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo. Guitarist Dave Mustaine (who went on to form Megadeth after being fired from the band) and bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton (who died in a bus accident in Sweden in 1986) and Jason Newsted are former members of the band.

I mean, it's easy to hate James, but at the same time I feel for him. Born in a family that locked him out of activities, health, and probably friends. Mother died when he was 16 for beliefs and his father left. His brother was his only family before Metallica. You can guess why he built up such an ego. Not to mention anger issues that he lashed out on Mustaine, which also was completely crazy when drunk, and Dave's dog too, on that one incident, back in the days. And poor Jason took it all from an emotionally stunted man who really never grew up and was scarred after he lost to an horrible accident his foster big brother Cliff. It's sad, really.

The Black Album is sort of like James' autobiography in many ways, and very relatable to other 70s and 80s kids who were repressed/sheltered for religious reasons. Usually that type of over-parenting backfires in very dramatic and sometimes fatal ways. The world got an angry young James Hetfield who happened to become one of the best guitarists in metal. One thing his mom did right was sign him up for those piano lessons!

Even after all these years it still hurts the soul to know cliff went out the way he did.. that quote he stated about burning out from being slow and bored, just says so much of how sure he was of himself.. he’s like that big brother you cherished as a young teen, who always had his mind made up and was always hands on to what ever he was doing. Man was one of them special dudes… in a recent interview.. the way his ex girlfriend from the 80s speaks of him so highly and gentle even after so many years is very soothing… real misfit rockstar 🖤

Great ending: Nothing Else Matters but Music! In one of the interviews Jason actually named the real reason why he had to leave the band. It was all about priorities: music or family life. And Dave is still resentful about the way he got kicked out of the group. After so many years. Got it practically firsthand.

Check your facts. If you watch this interview, Jason did not leave because of priorities: music or family life. Jason left due to lack of appreciation from the band and management and when James did not accept him helping a start up band Echobrain on the side, that sealed his decision. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5-kd6eHnbWGgcU

I know there all getting up there in age and i just have to say it's going to be a very sad day when James, kirk or lars pass! It would then be the end for Metallica. @@fam.hunger5244 I don’t know about ”ridiculous”, since he seems to recall a specific exchange that prompted it. I’m sure he influenced the band in terms of tuning, etc. But the notion that they were previously unaware of alternate tunings is demonstrably inaccurate.

I'm just happy and satisfied knowing "Nothing Else Matters" and at least having in their repertoire that I could tolerate. Over two decades later, now happily exploring/repeat playing the first three and "Black" album. I just wish and imagining what would it be if Cliff still around when they collaborated with Bob Rock the first time. Black album would be a lot better, and more commercially successful.

I was listening to Ratt, Crue, Maiden, Judas Priest, etc and then I heard Am I Evil and my life changed. Once I heard that song it completely changed what I listened to, how I dressed, my entire life. I became a MetalHead instantly and still am today. What I didn't see coming back then was how big Metallica would eventually become, the first time I saw them was shortly after Cliff passed, there was probably 6k people for the Damage Inc tour. The next time they came on their own was in support of the Justice album an they sold out two shows in a NBA arena. Seattle 89, still my favorite concert ever because of how crazy the crowd was. The last time Metallica came to Seattle was in 2017 and they filled a NFL stadium, literally filled the place. It's unreal to me how big they've become, back in the mid 80's I felt like they were my own because hardly anyone was listening to them where I was. Now Enter Sandman is played in grocery stores and is used as the intro for the Tennessee football team. Maybe it's not Tennessee? Some big college football team plays Sandman as the team comes on the field, it's pretty cool. Metallica is like an old friend now, I love them. I'm glad they booted Dave cause I love what he's created too.

@jimweed945
@jimweed945 3 жыл бұрын
There was no trying. Jason did replace Cliff. Then Rob replaced Jason. Both replacements were as, Bass players. Not human beings. Anybody would have got the same treatment. In the doc, and other interviews, James said, they were trying to get Jason to stop bein a, 'Fan'. Which i'm sure would be hard to do. Just like letting go of Cliff. But credit to Newstead, for coming out the other side of all that BS. I heard the vibe from the auditions where pretty cold. One guy flew all the way from the east coast, to SF. Only for for James to say, 'Next'. After seeing the guy was dressed like a Poser. That band was beyond broken at that time. They were back on the road, what, a month after Cliff passed? So from Day 1. Jason had to be the, 'easy target'. He put up with some major BS. James, and Lars throwing their weight around, cos they could.
