Just a tip. I have been container gardening for years. I use olive drums cut in half. If you drill holes in the bottom of the containers, even if they are 1 inch , when you fill the container with soil and set it on the ground, the weight of the soil will not allow the water to drain properly. It presses down so hard on the ground that it does not drain good. I have found that it is best to cut a large hole, like 12 or 15 inches in the bottom then put in your dirt. Good luck, enjoy y’all’s videos.

I use regular gravel under mine, about 3 inches, and it works perfect. My Brother props his up with treated 4x4's. Either way, Ray, folks with just a LITTLE space can do it just fine, even for a couple tomatoes!

This is so true and I learned the hard way a drowned a few nice tomato plants. So I use 2x2 boards to keep them up off the ground over an area that has been weeded so no weeds or grass grow under the area.

Thanks for the catfishing video. Brings back a lot of great memories I have with my dad. He always said that any fish with scales is bait for catfish. We went almost every weekend in the spring and summer in Texas. He passed away on November 8th at 86 years old. I miss him a lot. This video brought tears to my eyes. In a good way.

Hey Gabe...I grew a garden for 46 years in Kentucky. Our favorite was always Better Boy variety. Good sandwich tomato. Perfect in BLTs. Listen.....I've been watching your videos for years and I'm usually pretty quiet but I was also a single father of two kids. I want to tell you that I loved your videos with Kelly but I love who you are with Crystal. She is really good for you and those boys. You've changed for the better and I like seeing you do the father thing. I hope to get to meet you guys one day. Take care

Your boys are going to grow up to be great men, you have included them in everything you do and they sure do appreciate it. Love watching your videos. Chrystal will do fine with her raised containers and you all will be enjoying fresh veggies. Just a hint if you like radishes then plant them around some of your other planted veggies cause they will come up super fast and you will be eating them before the other veggies. Up here in Me. if it was 70 degrees we would be in shorts and tshirts. Thanks for taking us along.

Perfect outing. Gabe just a regular old high water river fishing, bouncing between bends in the rio, fishing the eddy pools, capturing the eater sized catfish, Reality! Oh, Crystal, lil lady you ARE as Gabe said, an intensely focused angler. Your smile/expression goes from intense to immensely happy on every hook set. The boys are clearly well mannered, polite and they seem to bond well with ‘Miss Beachy”. I hope for you all, this bond becomes/remains a long term family bond.

Gabe build you a compost wheel. It’s two big wheels on either side of a drum, we made our drum from 4 drums to add grass clippings, and throw all your food scraps and coffee and tea grams in it and spin it around the yard and compost everything. We do all that composting and it really feeds our plants in raised beds for the whole growing season. I keep a few tomato and pepper plants going year round so I eat fresh veggies year round. I grew squash the whole time this year and even though slow growing they’re still alive and producing now. Raise your own meat chickens and feed them a lot of organic stuff as well and you’ll have mo kinds of organic stuff and not going to the grocery store and spending money.

When you build the chicken cage you gotta run that chicken wire deeper in the ground so they can't dig under it. When we use to dog hunt we had around 20 beagles and we made our garden right next to our dog pens let the run off fertilize our garden we got the best veggies. I bet it's a bobcat they love chickens and turkeys great vide.
@elkhunter76
@elkhunter76 3 ай бұрын
My guess is the raccoons got the chickens. As a container gardener myself. I would recommend a drainage layer in the bottom before the soil crushed rock works but crushed plastic water bottles are lighter. Also one tomato plant per container as they will get huge there. Even in WY we only put one plant per container.40 is t shirt weather in WY try minus 30 F with a windchill of minus 48 F

If you have issues with drowning the plants on the ones you drilled holes in you should add a layer of gravel and a weed barrier or cheeze cloth to help drain access water. Alot of times those holes will clog and turn your bed into a pool. So the cheese cloth will prevent the soil from clogging the gravel and the water will drain properly.

Hey Gabe, this is a tip from an old guy that has raised chickens in the past. The first thing I want to say is good luck, Chickens live at the bottom of the food chain. What I mean by that is they will attract everything that likes to eat chicken. If you have no varmints around your place, just add chickens to the mix and you will have them all. Build a strong coop up off the ground with a good sized fenced in area for a run. Cover it with chicken wire or you will have hawks trying to get a snack. Then lock your chickens up at night. A good barking dog will be handy too
