Great vid Gabe! R50 certainly looks like a game-changer. The built-in processing unit is certainly interesting. Takes a lot of the tech burden off of getting a sim. Would be interesting to see what GoPro needs to integrate...
@LetsPlayThru27 минут бұрын
You will need a PC to run GSPro for now. It would connect via the USB-C port on the back of the R50.
@Golf101inc23 минут бұрын
@ thanks for the reply. That makes sense with storage probably being a bottleneck for having a truly “all in one” unit. I still think this makes huge leaps and bounds in the sim space though!

Hi can you connect tv and projector at the same time? Only see 1 HDMI port?
@LetsPlayThru40 минут бұрын
You could by splitting the signal with an adaptor. That's how I screen recorded and projected at the same time.

If I wanna use GS pro with it, how do I hook it to the computer? Can you do a video on that?
@LetsPlayThruСағат бұрын
You would simply connect it via USB to your computer and run GS Pro off that.

A high definition cartoon is still a cartoon. For occasional use, home tee hero on the R50 is good enough, but if you want to play courses regularly on a simulatory its graphical limitations will be off putting - but tbh if you want really good hd graphics you need something with a decent graphics card in it. Personally if I need to invest in a decent computer with a good graphics card i would want 4K graphics Overall I remain seriously impressed with the R50

I've been watching the videos for a while. Great content. I saw you played Bryan Park in Greensboro NC! I grew up playing that course... that is insane that you can play local courses with Garmin. I just picked up an r10 for my garage sim build. Im curious if you think they will update Home Tee Hero in the app to match these updated graphics? It seems like an easy port now that they have the courses rendered and phones are plenty powerful enough.
@LetsPlayThruСағат бұрын
It's my understanding they want to keep this version for the premium product offering...at least for a while.

Product seems great but the graphics of the course look nothing like the real life course which is pretty sad.
@jeffyboi69692 сағат бұрын
this is just coming from someone who 3D models and textures for a living. It would take sooo much man power to make courses look like E6 or Toptracer or any of those fancy ones. Those types of programs only have like 50 courses that are hyper realistic. E6 having more than that. Each of those courses are made by hand. Hometown hero has like fuggin 40,000 courses or whatever. You can't make 40,000 courses hyper realistic. Its impossible. Theyre using super simplified models and textures so you can play more courses rather than having really good graphics with less courses. You have to choose one our technology will not allow otherwise. Youd literally have to send someone to take pictures and 3d scans of every single course, and then model them, texture them, set up the holes...etc...its not even close to feasible unfortunately.
@nomorenonsense28 минут бұрын
@@jeffyboi6969I believe the issue is the built in processor and video card can't handle highly rendered files. They could easily make imaginary courses that look great like many of the other manufacturers do. I am a civil 3d designer and file sizes get massive with high detail. The technology built in is a great idea but also it's downfall. I highly doubt you can upgrade the specs. Like mentioned If you want to run high quality courses you need a laptop. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of a all in one.
@Laceh125 минут бұрын
@@jeffyboi6969I am not saying it has to be hyper realistic. But the course seems unrecognisable now. For the price point it is perfectly fine but I can’t imagine adding a few more layers of detail would be unreasonable, you could even let algorithms do the work for you, like Flight Sim 2020 does. Recognition of bushes instead of trees as the standard and adding marram grass would make it much more realistic.
@lazerflavor15 минут бұрын
You can still add GSPro with an external PC, this is a great way to practice and play the layout of a local course that hasn’t been built on GSPro yet. You don’t lose anything by going with this system.

It’s a nice unit don’t get me wrong. For me after thinking about everything, I’d rather spend an extra 1,500 and just get the Protee V overhead unit. From what I could gather, you’ll still need a gaming PC/Laptop to run GSPro and other third party software. The 50 just isn’t for me and my needs… great video as usual Gabe🫡

$5k is way too rich for my taste. It's nearly the cost of a private club membership. Two years from now when the competition has caught up this will cost half as much.

Having to bend down or kneel to aim before every shot is a deal breaker for me. Not very friendly for older golfers.
@LetsPlayThruСағат бұрын
I empathize with older golfer, and I will say this.... You really only have to bend down on the putts really. Which you'd probably bend down anyway to mark you ball, replace it, etc. I like it a lot more than walking back to my desk and fiddling with a mouse every time.
@JG_20_25Сағат бұрын
Well, if it’s like all other simulation software, the average golfer has to aim on most shots… to lay up, avoid a bunker, get back out to the fairway, etc. The unit looks great and it would be my next upgrade if the screen wasn’t so low.

The R50 $5,000 price point is a blunder. The less than $2,000 LM market demand is very high. The desire and purchasing power in the under $2,000 price point is where Garmin should have went. Most of the R10, MLMPro, Mevo+ and both Skytraks owners who have an established sim room setup 4K computers and projectors and nice sim bay, will not be looking to purchase the R50 for their next LM. Garmin's product marketers need to start following the growing Golf Sim world. The R50 brings high-end capabilities at a more accessible price point, for those who want the advanced data and insights of top-tier LM without spending $10,000. Okay, R50 is a great unit however just how big is that market demand? R50 will sell early because it is the new shiny toy for those with money and then the R50 will fade. The built in screen for sim play is a Turn off. I have a stand with wireless keyboard and mouse 2 steps away from where I hit, no bending over. Most sim room have setup where their controls are close by and easy to use without bending over.
@LetsPlayThru28 минут бұрын
I was hoping for them to roll something out at $1,999 too. But I think they have already cornered the lower end with R10 and they wanted a high tier product that was groundbreaking. I do think we may see a mid-tier product offering from them down the road, just like they did with golf watches. They had low cost and high cost and the S42 mid range came out later.

I would have to completely disagree on high definition graphics. Tiger Woods golf from 1998 had better graphics and more detail than this. I understand they sent you this for free to try out and could be a paid promotion. But we can all see the graphics are well behind almost every other product out there.
@LetsPlayThruСағат бұрын
I had to split out the signal to the projector and my screen recorder. So some of the details are actually lost in what you see here. I'll also mention Tiger Woods had about 15 courses to choose from. You've got 43,000+ here. Is it better than GSPro...no. Is it a major step up and actually decent...yes.
