I first heard this song in John Waters Hairspray movie with Tousaint McCall original veersion. Been singing it ever since. Hearing Isaac Hayes version closing the Stax documentary fit so well. What a heartbreaker of a song and a heartbreaker of a story about Stax. Isaac did it justice. Unfortunately the story of Stax is the story of life in America. The best justice money can buy and racism at it's best.
