That's awesome that they supply the lesson materials! That was the biggest challenge for me when I was an English teacher in Cambodia. The classes that had text books and work books were fun to teach, but then my other classes I had to do the lesson planning from scratch with no materials provided to me and it was so stressful.

Can a teacher possibly have 6 to 8 classes in a day if they wish? I mean except in January and August. I'm a bit worried about the number of classes being too low. Is having 6 to 8 classes/day realistic? (3-4 hrs a day)

How long did it take for you to do the onboarding. It is taking me a little while to get through. Is there a time limit on it. I seem to be doing all the microcourses too etc is that correct should do that before you finish the onboarding.

Could you share more about the pay rate for you when you first started? $10/hr CAD? More, less? Would be great to have a general idea! Thanks for the in-depth review

Great information, thank you! I'm Canadian + interested in getting my TEFL. (Do you recommend a TEFL over a TESL?) Where would you recommend I take my TEFL? Also, I do have a University degree in Social Work, so would prefer companies that pay more. Do you have recommendations for those? Sorry for all the questions, but you are so knowledgeable in this! ♡
@nickandraychel2 ай бұрын
Hey! It depends where you're planning on using your TEFL. We did our TEFL/TESOL with Oxford Seminars in Vancouver and it covered both qualifications. The program was not cheap, but it was an in-class program with practiced lesson demos, exams, etc. After taking it, we felt 1000% equipped to teach real kids in-class in Cambodia. That said, for online teaching, I find the TEFL hardly gets used as many of these platforms have lesson plans anyway and you don't have to come up with your own curriculum, design tests, mark exams, stand in front of a class full of 20 children, etc. So all of that being said, you can only just take a free TEFL online to qualify for a lot of online teaching programs if that's what you want to do. If you want to teach IRL, I would recommend and in-class TEFL or TESOL course (either will do).

On the application I saw a requirement to be a registered freelancer in your country? Is the something you had to do or have more info about?
@SeanReynolds196214 күн бұрын
Yes, when I applied, they wanted to ensure that you're self-employed as you're not hired by the company, solely a sub-contractor.

I’m curious what an hour (or two 26 minute classes) pays? I know you said it’s location dependant but is there an estimate? 20$ CAD or 17$ USD maybe?

I’ve heard an hour only pays 8 euros which is currently less than $9

Also for the demo class what di you say you recorded it with? Also do you need to use headphones with a microphone for classes?
@nickandraychel2 ай бұрын
Hey you don’t need a headset for the classes as long as you have a quiet spot! I just recorded it with Photobooth on my MacBook! I’m sure you could just record it with whatever webcam you have or on your phone and then upload it. The lessons are usually in the mornings and evenings in Spain/Italy - I’m not sure how to calculate the time difference for the UK but people also do take classes mid day since the classes are often covered by their workplace.

It depends on where you’re from and what your currency is. It’s more than minimum wage for Canadians! Because of the exchange rate it actually pays more than my old job in Canada and I can do it from home.
