The backup QB drives them down to get a FG before the half. There were several injured linemen and back ups really had to step up. Special teams was extraordinary. If you add in the guts, belief and love for each other, Notre Dame played the most complete TEAM college football game I've seen in a long time. They needed every player and coach to win. They did it on a huge stage. ND fans and Alum should never forget this one. Hats off. Congratulations. Good Luck in the championship.

Probably because ND statistically has the 3rd best secondary in college football and when you have the best TE in college football and a handful of other TEs and RBs that can catch the ball, you play to your strengths. Penn State had almost double total rushing yards instead. Does it really matter how many WRs caught a pass when both teams ended up with 5.2 yards per play? ND threw two interceptions, but Penn State's one was significantly more impactful. The box score, eye test and final score all support the same thing. It was a great, even, tough, close game that only one team can win. What's it going to take for college football fans to be entertained.

Unlike the other people who have commented, as a diehard ND fan, I have to give PSU their props. Because I'm an ND fan, I've been conditioned to getting my hopes up before a game only to have them destroyed by the end of the first half. PSU was controlling the game and when they went up by 10, I honestly didn't know how ND could come back just based on how well PSU controlled every aspect of the game thus far. Admittedly, PSU played much, much better than I thought they would and I am relieved for ND to come out of this game as the winner. If PSU keeps up this kind of recruiting and gameplay, then they will be a force to be reckoned with for the foreseeable future. Cheers!

I’ve seen a couple comments saying this wasn’t Franklin’s fault. This was 100% on Franklin. It was his decision to go aggressive and try to put the game away by putting it on the shoulders of his QB who clearly can’t carry the team. Take it to overtime where you don’t have to worry about time and put it in the hands of those that can carry the team, Singleton, Allen and Warren. His strengths were the run game and defense. Give yourself 25 yards to go vs however many they needed when the interception was thrown and then trust your defense to put the game away. Yes Franklin didn’t throw the pick, but he put his QB in a position to throw the pick knowing he’s not good under pressure like that.

I agree totally. I don't think they're gonna be able to drive down the field to attempt the fg. Badly missed a 3 yard TD pass to Singleton in the 1st, overthrew him in the 2nd qtr on a wide open wheel route where he would've scored, threw into triple coverage for an INT but was bailed out by a PI call, then the inexplicable throw with 50 seconds left for an INT and a lateral out of bounds to finish it off. @ I would agree but u must’ve forgot his games against Ohio State & Michigan last year lol, especially Ohio State. The box score for the OSU game doesn’t do it justice cause PSU scored a garbage time TD against a prevent defense to boost his stats but I swear those r the 2 worst games I’ve ever seen from a QB on any level. Before the garbage time TD he was 10/32 for 118 & 0TDs, even ending the game with the garbage time padding got him to 18/42 for 191 & 1TD with a 30 QBR. Believe it or not he took a step forward this year in big games including tonight lol, knowing ur QB has that kinda track record makes the aggressive final drive completely unacceptable tho

Calling one of the many missed holding calls on Abdul Carter changes the complexion of this game. Not calling holding nearly neutralized Penn States biggest strength on defense, allowed Notre dame to throw for nearly 300 yards.

Oh c'mon, Penn State held like crazy and the PI that nullified Allar's first int was ticky tacky at best. PSU has no grounds to complain about officiating in this game. They didn't call much, and when they did, it was pretty even.

Penn State brings a lot back next year. 4/5 on the offensive line, and you could argue the one leaving is their worst player.

Ok/ you won't believe but want to have a beer anyway. That's fine, we've all been doubters of our own program for at least half the season... The three learned things I want to point out, are 1)the individual heroic acts put out on that field by the ND players who pine for Valhalla; 2)those players don't care about how many 4/5 stars they had or you have, or Georgia, or OSU, etc; 3)the psychological element, or 'team-whisperer' aspect of the ND coaching staff is probably the only factor that is more under-appreciated than the science being used in the strength and conditioning program. Along with the tech and prognostics analysts, they make the game that Freeman and his staff play almost a completely different game than most of the rest of the world of CFB plays. Its Science and Psychology ball, and Freeman is its Martin Luther. Go Irish

Rushing for over 200 all you want but if you can’t throw many completions when needed. You get this result.

Will to win is an unmeasurable stat. ND has that! PSU up by 10 early, blew lead. PSU up by 7 in the 4th, blew lead. Typical Franklin team and just numb to it by now. Focus is not one of PSU's strong points. With that being said, what a game! Congrats Irish.

PSU needs receivers who aren’t running backs or a tight end. The only other thing the receivers did tonight was Fleming getting away with holding. QB didn’t have the best night, should’ve stuck to the run on the last possession. Defense did all anyone could ask, a lot of grit w/ Carter and company. Was a nice run, still a fan, but the same old outcome against top tier opponents.

This is for all those who ignored Notre Dame in the playoffs. They are a team of gamers who find a way to win. Their kicker who was criticized all year is 6 for 7 in the playoffs with two winning field goals. Now 14-1 and playing in the National Championship 13 games in a row.

Why didn't Penn let #44 run the ball ??? Penn coaching was stupid as well as the announcers. Taking risky throws with short yardage. Absolute stupid coaching

The absolute key factor in this game is drew allar. Winning the turnover battle and rushing for 200 yards…. Any other starting power 4 QB could’ve done enough to win that game. Just an atrocious performance by drew allar

It’s the B1G championship game all over again. You need your defense to keep it to a 1 possession game and the offense blows it with a mistake with no time left…

I don’t understand how Penn State can pay Franklin his ridiculous salary and he still can’t not win a big game. Drew Allar is is the single most overrated player in college football.
