I'm just so confused with this team. I honestly did not think ND would beat Texas A&M. I felt the moment was to much. Then they won. Then as I was at the game today sitting row 6 screaming my head off, I had no doubt ND was going to win. Then they lost. The ND sideline was a mass of confusion, everyone was sleep walking. Frankly the lack of discipline was insane. ND players arguing with fans? Why are they not focused on the game? Where are the captains? Where are the position coaches? We are completely schizophrenic at this point with no clear direction.

Notre Dame got knocked off by NIU, because they were outplayed by NIU. After the win at College Station, folks were ready to pencil in the Irish for the national championship game. But, one game does not a season make. Bring your A game each week or suffer the consequences. It’s not the head coach or the quarterback, or anything else. It’s the culture. It’s the mindset. Opponents are not awed by Notre Dame’s history or tradition any more. Want to be feared? Play like Georgia and Ohio State week in and week out. They fear no one, but they respect everyone.

This is what happens when you don’t have a true qb competition and just hand the keys to a guy they gave way too much nil money to and is not good at all. Leonard should be benched. Any of the other qb’s on this team could in my opinion do a helluva lot better. They really can’t be much worse. The first game I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it was A&M’s good defense but this game proved that to be wrong.

I been watching football for 56 years. All football. The game has changed so much. Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s it was about great Running Backs and defense that won championships in college. You had the wishbone run by Oklahoma and other teams like Ohio St, USC and Nebraska that had great running games. But in the year 2024 if you don’t have a top Quarterback you don’t win a championship or compete for one. Look at the past champions. Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio St. and LSU had top Quarterbacks that won and got drafted in the first two rounds. Just look at Washington last year. Notre Dame has not got one of these top Quarterbacks and that is a major problem. Find out why and replace that person or persons no matter if its a head coach or assistants. Notre Dame deserves better.

The players of all great coaches all had some form of healthy respectful fear of their head coach -- just look at Nick Saban, Lou Holtz, etc., etc. The 3 Freeman losses to Marshall, Stanford, and Northern Illinois shows clearly that Freeman's players may love him as a friend and player's coach, but they lack any healthy fear of Freeman and this is a HUGE PROBLEM!

Where is it written that the starting QB "can't be benched"? (at 1:24:06). So I guess that's State or Federal law apparently? Of course it isn't. After an unproductive game last year, Saban benched his QB (Milroe) for the next (non-conference, granted) game. Then he reinstated him, and Milroe led them to the CFB playoff. Later Saban implied he was running an experiment - on Milroe. Saban wanted to see how Milroe dealt with the very personal experience of being benched. Also, a top player benching sends a message from HC to locker room: I don't give a flying F about your NIL deal. NIL deals don't dictate who gets on the field. I do.

Notre Dame lost the second game of the season against Ole Miss in 1977 after beating the defending National Champion on the road the week before. Dan Devine yanked Rusty Lisch and replaced him with Joe Montana. We won the Natty. Freeman has to be willing to yank a bad QB and replace him with one that can throw.

Freeman is a great man, but he's not a great head football coach. Denbrock is exceedingly mediocre as an offensive coordinator. Riley is not Daniels. But he only handed the ball off 8 times in the first half for about 6 yards per carry. But Riley had 15 passes and 10 more runs (broken passes or designed runs). Notre Dame coaches (not NIU players) called plays which limited our chances for success. College football does not need to be that complicated; especially, against a MAC team. I put 70% of this loss on Denbrock. 20% on Freeman for his unwillingness or inability to address that Denbrock deficiency. 7% on Riley. 3% on the rest of the offense. Yes, defensive tackling and outside contain were bad at times. But they only scored 16 points. Offense is why we lost. The worst part is that deep in hearts, we knew that Denbrock wasn't the answer, but we went all-in anyways. Unbelievable. Very sorry for the 5th year seniors. Underclassmen, there is no reason that this shouldn't be the last loss you ever experience on that field. You would not be the first group that has passed through ND that has won despite their coaches.

More than anything notre dame got out coached the on both sides of the ball this game. Neither coach made the necessary adjustments to counter what niu was doing. Obviously Leonard had a horrible game but denbrock should have been more creative in his play calling. The Irish front four simply got mauled up front. We need to make some changes there. This is why I never go to ND games anymore. My family and I always buy into the hype. When I was a kid I witnessed multiple losses to Stanford, a loss to Northwestern and a loss to Tennessee all at home. I have zero desire to drive 4 hours for another loss. Now with this loss under Freeman's belt, I can safely say that we will likely lose 3 more games because if Riley is the best ND has at QB, they are totally screwed.

3rd year for freeman and it year the offense has been conservative and seems to play not to lose rather than to win. 3 different offensive coordinators. Multiple different qb's. Freeman is the common thread here. Defensive minded coach that wants to play it safe on offense.

NIU in non conference games in last couple years have been fairly competitive. NIU thou not as talented overall is a decent MAC program. Ontario Brown reminds me if former NIU running back Garett Wolfe or Bears RB Cohen.

Don't blame the defense. They gave up only 16 points, just 3 in the second half. That's with NIU having the ball for over 34 minutes. Basically one play with an amazing throw into a tight window, and one player took a bad angle gave them a TD on their first drive. After that, held them to 9 points. You hold any team to 16 points, that should be a win. This loss is on Freeman and the offense.

As a fan, it's frustrating to hear all week after the A&M game how ND is going to cruise to the playoffs. Then I listen to shows that talks about the lack of talent ND has at wr, the o-line being so young and new, linebackers not being very good, QB can't throw,then WHY did anyone think we were going to just cruise to the freaking playoffs! They beat a decent a&m team, NOT A FREAKING GEORGIA! What part of our history allows ND to think they can take anyone lightly! SMH!!

Your O-line isn’t good…. Your D-Line isn’t big enough, and they ain’t quick enough. Howard Cross is good. He ain’t starting at Georgia. Who is R J Oben? He hasn’t done nothing. Sloppy, horrible football. You can’t have 2 picks, 2 blocked field goals and expect to win the game. You don’t have enough talent…. Damn it!!!!
