I always LoL at the Smurf’s wearing the blue/black gloves. I know, I know, but but but poison! 😂 my grandfather is almost 97 years old. He’s been a auto/semi/tractor mechanic all his life. Since he was a kid. Never did he wear gloves. Had kids, Grand kids, great grand kids, great great grand kids. No problems in the blood lines. 😂

Tech tip: Once you mesh the distributor gear “driven gear” to the cam gear “Drive Gear” the timing is established so you’re able to slowly rotate the engine until the distributor mates with the oil pump shaft. Saves time!! JD

Awesome build! I think you're going to like those sportsman heads. I have a set of them in my nova on a 10:1 350 with a XE274 can and I love it. Good power all the way through. Looking forward to seeing your car run.

🖒🖒 another great info-tainment video. Being a ford and toploader guy i didnt know the difference between the famed muncie transmissions. I guess i never cared enough to research it. Just knew the M22 was the go to for GM guys. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I have a 70 Nova that was my first car when I turned 16 in 1976. It was originally a 230 six with 3 speed but my dad and I swapped in a 327 and Muncie. Super easy swap with the V8 motor mount holes predrilled from the factory and using same transmission mount.

M-22s didn't have 2 grooves on the input shaft. We used to make our own "crash boxes" by grinding every other tooth off the synchros on M-22s.

The M20 is the best 1-2-3 ratio for the street and 1/4 mile. 1970 Camaro with M20 to M22 was a 10 spline input shaft.

I have a distributor shaft that I took the gear off of and everything off the top so a drill would fit on it so I could run the oil pump and build pressure before dropping the real one in. I think it spun counterclockwise and filled the napa gold oil filter before installing. Oil pressure was there just as though it had already been run and just turned off. A lot of info in this video, thanks.

As you say depending on the gap between the China wall, and manifold. As far as the intake gaskets, I use a dap of rtv to hold the gaskets in place, and ditched the rubber gasket on China walls, but I sit the manifold down in place so I know roughly how thick to apply the rtv. Your going to cry when I tell you what I paid for my muncie with shifter from 69 Z28, but like you I did not get M22. Mine was the M21, with factory hust shifter, and aluminum bell housing. Nor did I get his flywheel, but I did get the aluminum light weight flywheel from another buddy. $200.00 dollars is what I paid for it, and he'd just replaced the seals in it. $75.00 for the flywheel, but the expensive part was the Hayes Super clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing I bought when I put it in my 70 C10 camper special long bed. Behind my 64 327 with the big 202 valves, and gasket matched heads. That a good friend of mine had in his 54 F100, but wanted to put the 238 cubic inch V8 or something like that. Told me if I found him a good engine for his, and helped him swap it out. Then I could have the 327, and he'd help me the next weekend. So 100 bucks at the wrecking yard they sat what he wanted in bed of my truck. So I went from a 307 3 in the tree 70 model C10 in 1974 that I gave $500.00 for spent, $400.00 for 4-10×12x15 magnesium wheels, 4 L60x15 Dayton bias tires, $500. for the truck, $75.00 for bell housing $200.00 for transmission and shifter, nearly $200.00 for the Hayes clutch with throw out bearing, $100.00 for the motor. Which later I upgraded to a Hurst shifter made for trucks, $225.00 Just under 2 grand for it all, and drove the sh!t out of it for 2 years everyday. Then one day my wife drove it to get something after work that she needed the truck for, and I got stuck in her trans am. Come home truck is parked funny in front of the house, and I asked what she was smoking when she parked. She said it was making a funny noise, she broke crankshaft in half, but it still drove, and ran as long as you pussy footed it. I'm sure I did the damage, but she just happened to use it the day it broke.

The reason they did the 26 spline input was to utilize the 11” clutch, the ten spline uses 10.5” clutch.

Just looked at my Muncie and it has numbers 3925660 do I have a Muncie 20 or 21 and do you know the spline count?Thanks
@NotRodShop
@NotRodShop 3 жыл бұрын
That number just indicates that the case was cast between 68 and 70 which would have the larger input bearing and 1" countershaft. The input splines will either be 10 or 26 which you can tell just by looking if you know what you're looking at or count them. The only way to know for sure whether it's a 20 or 21 is to open it and count the teeth or you can mark the input and output, put the trans in first gear and rotate it - after one rotation of the output an m20 input will have rotated 2.5 times and an m21 input will only rotate just under 2.25 times.

I have a 1966 belair 2 door post bench seat car that i built. It has a 1972 408ci big block and a1968 M20 4 speed and 3.55's in the rear. I don't have a lot of money in the build.
