One of the biggest problems for United is that they are a team pretty much exclusively designed to counterattack. Guys like Rashford, Bruno, Garnacho, McTominay, Eriksen, and Wan Bissaka are not possession style players. Their modus operandi is to just quickly play forward and hit teams on the break. And that is exactly why they thrived in the second half against Villa because Villa played a high line. There was tons of room in behind to exploit. However, when teams play mid and low blocks against United, United simply do not have the players with the patience and skill required to break down those types of teams. As much flak as people give Antony, he is playing in the wrong team. He should be playing for a side like Brighton that constantly pass, move, and interchange positions. Likewise, Mainoo is quickly becoming another possession based player who is wasting away at United. You can tell that he wants to play a pass and move style of play but he is not playing with the right set of players to do that. In the end, United lack a clear style of play because they have too many counterattacking players that can’t play against mid and low block teams and 4-5 possession players that can’t combine with the counterattacking players who don’t have the skill and patience required to control the ball all game long like the elite teams.

He thrived at Ajax because he played in a collective team that emphasized passing, moving, and interchanging positions. He doesn’t have that at United at all. It’s very much the opposite at United. Just 4 days ago some fans got triggered when I mentioned Villa and Chelsea wins are "false positives", and they complained Craig didnt give MU enough compliments after the Villa game. I will say it again, theres nothing positive coming out of that club even if there is a win (usually by luck or moment of brilliance by Garnacho). From the egoistic fans to the players to the manager to the directors, they are toxic and shambles. It is a blessing if they keep Ten Hag, instead of changing managers and the "xxx at the wheel" hype starts again. Lets see how low they can fall by the end of the season with TH. It will reflect the true state of the club, and the true commitments of Ratcliff in repairing that.

I think the injury excuse is overblown other than Casemiro for me. Both of the goals were scored by someone sitting right where a defensive midfielder would be if United had one. The last couple years so many goals have been scored against United by playing a ball to the top of the 18 yard box. Dalot is a terrible defender so not having Shaw is impactful as well. The centerbacks had to cover for him on the first goal because he was doing nothing then the ball got cut back to someone that previously was marked by Evans. Having better players could fix this but also the existing players and coach could make changes instead of having this be an ongoing issue. Being lazy and mental breakdowns seems to be the trademark of too many of the United players. Having Bruno at captain tells you all you need to know about this team. Absolute disgrace to the shirt and badge they wear.

ETH was dead set on signing Antony from Ajax and he put pressure on the recruitment team to make the deal which led to Utd paying £85m for a player they had previously valued at £25m. It's a ludicrous situation and Utd need to get a proper structure in place whereby the manager can have his say on player signings, but he won't necessarily get the players he wants at any price. United are unfortunate that Chelsea didn't get wind that they were after Antony, otherwise Chelsea might have offered £100m to usurp Utd and they'd be left with the white elephant instead.
