The uproar from the United fanbase towards this sums up the issues they have as a club in the modern day. Constantly stuck in the past and trying to cling on to a previous era. Let’s face it, Ferguson’s “expertise” hasn’t exactly provided much value over the last decade has it? If it had, the club wouldn’t be in the current mess. Need to stop being so nostalgic and sentimental and start looking forward. The irony is that United fans always used to take swipes at Liverpool for clinging to their history when in reality they are a far more forward thinking club. Shankly and Paisley were also legendary figures, but they weren’t desperately trying to cling onto and/or replicate those eras, they let Klopp be his own man and write his own story. They’re now doing the same with Slot. Until United stop fixating on the 90s and 00s, which are long gone, they’ll never get into a forward thinking mindset.

Liverpool went 20 years without winning a league title and that title was presented in front of empty Anfield. Liverpool became a better run club under Klopp the very opposite of United under the clueless Glazers owners. I might add Michael Edwards was as important to Liverpool as Klopp but they had a fall out and he left. He's now back with Klopp leaving which will be a big help to Slot.

your club just expects turn around in a year or two not understand that it takes years to rebuild a club which will be years of mediocre performance and heartache, need to pick a manager that you think is good and give them the time and patience to rebuild the club, you also need to stop throwing money around like it's monopoly money you have a massive culture of horrendously overpaying for players and their wages

United have paid fergie 24m since the contract started and the man turns 83 in December. Anyone complaining about this is just being ridiculous. Why would you keep paying him over 2m a year at that age for practically nothing? Mentions of what he’s done for United are also baseless as the club paid him a salary while working; he wasn’t doing charity work at United.

It was a team that won the league by double digits... This "aging squad" narrative is ridiculous. The average age of the squad was 24 and the older players were already bit part players. Scholes made 8 starts and Giggs made 12, for example. The only two older players that really needed to be replaced quickly were Rio, who was in his mid to late 30's and had lost a yard but let's not pretend he was a weak point and Evra, who did need to be moved on within 12-18 months as he was in decline. Rooney was 27, which should be his prime, RVP was 29 and still had another couple of seasons before he'd fall off entirely (he was never about pace). The squad was solid, the man that came in just fumbled it hard and then LVG wanted to play an entirely different way, which made half of them surplus.

This has been blown up so much by the media and co. Not a negative move, Sir Alex will be just fine financially & still sticking around for the love of football. Using words like "sacked" "let go" "cut" "chopped" etc makes it sound dramatic. United is moving forward (despite their first team performances) and this was always inevitable. He is arguably one of the biggest personalities in the world and I'm 100% certain if this wasn't amicable, he'd speak up for his club. He'll be at the game vs Brentford and everything will be fine.

There’s 1000’s of working class men and women in Manchester that worked in industry for 40 plus years and didn’t earn anything like £2m in their whole career. Sir Alex’s whole management career was driven by what the hard working people did to give them their privileged position. Growing up in Govern and the Dock workers etc. A man with that ethos will wholeheartedly appreciate the cost cuts when Inoes are cutting other staff that might not reach that £2m savings. Adam Crafton has never liked United and does not have a good word to say about the club. Laurie and Ornstein are proper journos on United and know a lot more about what is going on and have more access. Crafton seems to struggle with the concept that teams results can be indifferent whilst lots of progress is being made behind the scenes and suddenly things click. The other side is also true as good results hide underlying issues that eventually show up and catch up with you.

Everyone knows Fergie was still being paid promised money outside of his managerial contract to get around financial issues. INEOS is just not honouring that illegal agreement. Why avoid talking about that here??

Yes indeed, that highly lucrative, sweet equity deal that the Glazers gave him to keep him onside. Shhh! 🤫

United we’re paying £2m per year with very little return. Waste of money.

Fergie is a legend but there’s no need to continue to pay him over £2 million a year for what he’s doing, particularly when the club might be in trouble with PSR soon, and ordinary workers have been let go. Not to mention the fecking Christmas party being canceled! As long as he continues to have some of his other privileges and some underperforming players are let go in the summer, I don’t see a problem with this.

Irrespective of the Fergie news ( I actually think it would look quite poor if they were firing normal wage earners while continuing to give Fergie 2 million a year.) Berrada saying they are targeting 3 years for a league title is fishing for the moon at night. They have a team built to Eric Ten Hag's specifications. There are 5 Ten Hag acolytes from Ajax, plus a couple more dutch players from other Eredivisie clubs and Christian Erickson who came up through the Ajax youth system before joining Tottenham. The club is built in Ten Hag's image. This isn't a squad that needs surgery... This is a squad that needs a full rebuild.

I laugh at the fact Ineos want to save the money from an iconic figure head’s contract at the club, so kick him out. However they’ll then issue Ten Haag a new 2 year deal. 8th position & cutting Fergusons contract is not going to improve income at the club. They haven’t done much at Nice and the wishy washy decisions they’re making at Utd are writings on the wall imo.

If this happened in another club named Chelsea you guys will have been ranting and using expletives to describe the club and its owners. Now because it’s Manchester Utd you are finding excuses for it. Biased lot.

I think SAF is already rich man and he doesnt need salary from United anymore. So what United do is what proper club like man city or Arsenal or Liverpool do. So why everyone is so annoying about that??? Next United need to be more ruthless against senior player who are big wages but dont perform well. Player like Antony, rashford, Casemiro, maguire, Luke Shaw they need all to be axed from the club. No more waste of money from injured player and non performing player.

I think Ferguson had more power than you give him credit for. When he has gone to the happy football training ground in the sky & someone who has collected all the facts, bits & pieces + notes writes what really happened, you will see why they kept paying him that ridicules amount. I wouldn't be suppressed to hear that he was involved with all highering & firing. For me the sooner he has nothing to do with that club the sooner it will start to be a top club again.

The stadium is full of holes and falling apart, what sense does it make to give an 83 year old man a no show £2m a year job? The list of legends Fergie cut loose when they got older is so long it could fill a book.
