I do understand that the £60k amount it has cost the council in the past cannot be found, especially because the council are in so called ‘special measures’, and whose budgets maybe need to be signed off by higher outside officials to pay for the fireworks, the music stands (PA hire etc), and marques for the markets, and paying companies / individuals for children’s activities etc., but when you consider the state of the nation, and the psychological benefits of peoples’ wellbeing when it comes to them soaking up and enjoying live music within a gathering, surely a couple of thousand could have been put aside. Considering it’s an established ‘free’ community event that celebrated its 50th year last year (it started in 1973), out of all the ancillary offerings the event offers, then the live music stages must be top of the list for most attendees; at least that’s my interpretation after speaking to people who have supported the event in the past. Live music appeals to such a large cross section of visitors, no matter their colour, creed, ethnic background, financial status etc.

Oh dear ! How sad . Normally its a cracking festival . I was didappointed I couldnt make it this year ..... till I just watched this ! . Just a micro mini Goose Fair be look of it . The live music is sorely missed . I agree , should've given buskers an open weekend ! . N.B. Disgusting how they charge for parking on the embankment now 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I don't blame you for not going, maybe a few buskers should go up there...Spectacular view from the drone looks so green and lush

According to the BBC report, the council claim the missing segments would cost £60k, but the live music bit would cost nowhere near that. Just a PA company, and a couple of operators is required. I bet some of the up-and-coming unknown talent would play for expenses and just for the experience of performing to a crowd. They [the council] have no foresight.

Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated. It is a shame there is no music this year, especially with the weather forecasted to be so good; that lovely bandstand on the Embankment and other music stages that have been in place during last festivals. I have been seriously thinking about speaking to a few musician friends I know and maybe sounding out (excuse the pun) an idea about putting together a plan for next year, involving private business sponsorship with regards to having a weekend FREE music festival in Nottingham for all to enjoy. Maybe it could be known as the ARF… the Alternative Riverside Festival. I need to ponder over this and if interest if forthcoming, I will publicise the idea, or better still, maybe make a video involving a few musicians to cultivate interest / to find out if there is any. I’ll stop waffling on now!

Thanks for commenting. Couldn’t agree more. Basically, I see it as just a street fairground and some dragon 'boat' races on the Sunday. Boat racing is not something that interests me. Waste of time.
