Nottingham stabbing victims family speak outside court after sentencing

The family of one of Valdo Calocane’s victims say they were “railroaded” by prosecutors into accepting the triple killer’s manslaughter plea, after he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
Calocane was told by a judge at Nottingham Crown Court that he would be detained in a high-security hospital “probably for the rest of your life”.
The 32-year-old took the lives of 19-year-old university students Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar before killing 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates in a series of violent attacks in Nottingham on June 13 last year.
Calocane, a paranoid schizophrenic, was sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.

My heart goes out to the family who have suffered this terrible crime,may God be with them in their grief and the quest for justice they have truly not had. Once again, it's the dignified honest people of this country that are let down by a broken establishment. Shame on them.

@@philcord4812 Well this isn't really a secret, we know that all the mainstream political parties believe that if the country's big business owners are offered access to cheap foreign labour, the country's GBP would rise, but that doesn't mean that the poorer Brits will benefit as they will be unemployed for longer periods if time and therefore remain poor. We have also learnt, that having access to cheap foreign labour doesn't guarantee a rise in the country's GDP.

@@SandhyaTayshetye-cj2ih Arrived in Portugal as an illegal migrant with his family at the age of 9 from Somalia, gained Portuguese citizenship. As an EU citizen, ended up in the UK. He was intelligent and normal, until 2019 when paranoid schizophrenia developed, ended up in a mental hospital in 2020 but refused to take his meds and escaped his mental health team as he believed his voices were real (his voices also told him not to take his meds). Believed the voices he hears, and still hears, are MI5 directing him. He has treatment resistant schizophrenia, he is uncurable. He will never be freed.

This is so awful! These people have been treated so appallingly! How can this be justice??? The murderer will have a cushy life going forward and these poor families can only expect to live in that knowledge. In the meantime the home office continues to leave the UK borders wide open for the worst possible people to come in…

after all this, and tragic as it is, it's going to cost the tax payer thousands a year to keep this thing in a secure unit. the staff are on over ridiculous money. most of the ones i met weren't even british and buying huge houses in their own countries. so much not taken into consideration.
