Very unfortunate man. That engine should not have been shipped out, apart from the damage/defects some parts even look un finished for example the ball stud or your carb and the Venturi on yours is raw ware mine is black. Wonder if I look at mine better if I’d find something wrong. Very unfortunate once again

@@TastyBRC Dont know if the scratches in the sleeve or the missing machining of the cooling head are the worst part. Force Engines, which are often rediculed for being crap, have far better finish on their sleeves than this. And that non-machine cooling head will cause cooling issues.

Finally got to drive my B3 last weekend and it seemed to run REALLY well. Lots of power, great linear power band and low fuel consumption. But tearing it down afterwards revealed a slight black score on the piston. I have no idea what caused it, but I have the feeling it was my fault cause at one point the temp rose to about 135°C on the glow plug (likely the engine wasnt fully run in at that point) and I got a little to happy to tune it. So far it still seems to run fine and still has good compression, but I really want to know what caused the issue.
@TastyBRC
@TastyBRC 2 ай бұрын
No worries about 135, thats definitely not overheat. No idea what caused the score on the piston but I dont think its a temp issue. If the compression (when engine at running temp) and pinch are ok, then there should be nothing to worry about. Have fun with your b3 👍
@xXYannuschXx
@xXYannuschXx 2 ай бұрын
@@TastyBRC At what temp would you consider it being overheat? Most manuals state that 95-120°C is ideal. And I have read that 160°C is the point where the engine is toast. The scoring is on the pistons exhaust side, right at the top where the small groves for lubrication are. I have the feeling that the engine must have pulled some dirt somehow. I suspect that because I also found some dirt at the carb slider seal; I used some springs to pull the carb closed (in case of a servo or electricity failure) and those springs seem to get caught on the seal, pulling it out its seat.

Great Video to ahow people why it is important to perform a pre-run teardown/inspection @Robert Wright....To me, with how much $ I spend on my nitro engines. It is always a step in my program to tear down and inspect ALL of the parts, then reassemble for any of my new engines before operation. (especially for top $ name brands. The big manufacturers that support other engine companies tend to operate utilizing more shifts to meet product demands. QA/ QC standards may be more "laxed," depending on how the people on that shift are feeling). Human Errors so happen! Benifit of doing the pre-run teardown/inspection...The tear down and reassemble process will also help aid you in troubleshooting any issues/headaches that may arise during break-in. But this is just how I run my nitro program!(I've had bulk order purchases that contained 2 engines from an older lot# that were never pulled off the shelf to receive the updated revisions that were made that engine series/line up). At NASA if you eete to audit the inspection records, I bet you will see that during high demand times, the majority of the rejectable production parts happen on weekends, holidays, etc., but the majority of the time it's the tail end of 3rd shift as well as the beginning of 1st shift. Because of my documentation, as demonstrated in this very nice and high quality video, I was able to get 2 brand new engine replacements that were manufactured earlier that year!...As well as a discount on my next bulk order! Since my issues were positively resolved, I will not name the manufacturer.... unless I get more botched engines in the future. lol I hope that someone will learn something from this video and its comments!...last thing we want is NitroNuts bailing to buy plug'n play flashlights🤯 #keepNitroAlive

ehhhh, well the bent fin sucks however wont affect performance, the piston looks as if it got scuffed from setting on its side, the cross hatch marks in the sleeve is what would concern me, its hard to tell if its the glare making them look like pretty deep marks, however if you cant feel a pick or something catch them its probably fine. after break in everything will ware in and the scuff on the piston will be gone. however i cant tell how bad it is from camera but doesn't look bad or if it really would affect performance. the tight bearing is fine. I've had plenty of engines like that. i prefer it being tight so there's less of a chance the crank spins inside the bearing. the dlc missing inside the crank does suck, makes it more prone to rust that's about it. also having the head textured on the bottom is different but i doubt would affect any cooling. few things yes could be improved but that's a lot of engine for the price point. and just because it doesn't have a slug in the crank doesn't mean its not balanced. typically in on road engines you will see as much as 3 giant slugs in the counter balance, and off-road 1 or 2 and a lot of times none. the different counter balance weights are there and have a large affect on the powerband of the engine. its very hard if not possible to have a perfect balance on a 1 piston engine however there's a lot of tuning and ways to affect the powerband of the engine with the different balance . cool video and I'm defiantly curious what their customer support says !!
@TastyBRC
@TastyBRC Жыл бұрын
Totally agree!!! The bent fin is just cosmetic damage, i told nova i could do with it and ask for piston-sleeve replacement only (that's not what they did, youll see). Still at 379 euros ($413) it's very unfortunate. The marks in the sleeve may not affect the performance.. i dont know, i dont think they will disappear after running-in, and the scratch on the piston means that the handling procedures are rough, like my friend NeedMoreBoost said. No slugs on the cranckshaft, no DLC inside.. not issues, like you said, i agree, but a cheaper way to make a cranckshaft for sure!!! And the are claiming " Nova engines intends to make the quality of the engine the most obssesive aspect of its production" ......NO comment . Yes this engine is cheaper than an OS AD3, FXk303 or 502 or even Reds but trust me in this range of price and enven cheaper you have many choices with ALL high end features you can expect from a racing engine and perfect machine work! But the worst is yet to come 🤐stay tuned !!!

@TastyBRC
@TastyBRC Жыл бұрын
i mean this crankshaft has no counterweight, check Pert 2 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZioqYqKq5yBmdk
@richjbarnett
@richjbarnett Жыл бұрын
Looks like it has a counterweight to me, it machined out of the steel of crank. You don't actually need tungsten inserts to balance a crank. It can allow you to design a more effective crank, less drag etc.
@TastyBRC
@TastyBRC Жыл бұрын
I think that up to a certain point you are right, I also said in part 2 that the crankshaft is obviously balanced but has no counterweights, I do not believe that the counterweights generate drag and not having put it on this crankshaft is just a way to make it at a lower price. Moreover in the new onroad engine R9, Nova Engines installed a crankshaft that they call "Triple Balanced Lightened Cranckshatf" according to the fact that this cranckshaft comes with 3 counterweights inserts... So based on what this company says, the b5r crank is not considered as "balanced" (by the counterweight inserts) and they may not think that 3 tungsten inserts generate drag. Still interesting exchange 👍
@richjbarnett
@richjbarnett Жыл бұрын
What the company sais is just marketing waffle. Of course the Tungsten inserts generate no drag. My point is that if you can make the counterweight smaller by using materials with higher density then the drag of that component as it rotates would be lower. Furthermore the smaller crank assembly could lead to reduction in under piston volume, another benefit. From your responses its clear you don't have a great technical understanding, so probably better to leave this conversation here.
@TastyBRC
@TastyBRC Жыл бұрын
@@richjbarnettThis crankshaft is by no means smaller than any other 1/8 scale nitro engine crank, neither its counterweight, it is made of steel like any other and no matter how dense this steel is, it will never be as dense as tungsten. Whether you believe that the insterts are necessary or not.... You won't change the laws of physics. It is rather you who imagines having a technical understanding superior to others and to everything that has been done in nitro so far.

Unfortunate. It would still be a very usable engine and I’m sure it would’ve run great. The chrome on the sleeve would’ve polished out and the scratch on the piston probably couldn’t even be felt with your fingernail. The block was probably damaged when they removed it from the mold. I haven’t seen anyone else have these problems so I’d assume you got an engine from a very early batch considering their main focus is the quality. As for the other things like no weights in the crank and the underside of the cooling head not being milled, I wouldn’t care too much about that. The only time you see the underside of the head is when you take it apart and an engine doesn’t need crank weights to perform good. Sure they help but it’s not a necessity
@TastyBRC
@TastyBRC Жыл бұрын
I agree, the engine will probably run good, most of the scratches will be polished, milling the cooling head and adding weights to the cranckshaft is not a necessity, it is true but this is a 380 euros engine, 413$.. that's why im concerned by this kind of details, in this price range they are competing with high end engines that look perfect and come with all the features you can expect from a race engine from brands that do not fail a quality control..
@moralesrcdesigns3784
@moralesrcdesigns3784 Жыл бұрын
@@TastyBRC $413?!? The main distributor in the US has the B5R for $355 and the B3R for $290. It is kind of a bummer that the engine doesn’t come with the same features that other engines within the same price point come with, but in the end, it doesn’t matter what features it does and doesn’t have as long as it performs good. I’m considering picking up a B3R sometime soon. I’ll definitely be checking for any sort of imperfections now
@TastyBRC
