I still don't understand why laser aiming modules cost so fucking much. Laser and IR technology are decades old yet we still pay a hefty premium. And I don't want to hear anything about materials and machining. Aluminum is one of the cheapest materials to buy in bulk and one of the easiest and cheapest to machine with minimal overhead.
@brucetucker48476 ай бұрын
My guess is they get away with it because NV is such an expensive field to enter. The market for LAMs is pretty much restricted to people who've already spent $5k + on NODs, so there's not much market pressure for budget LAMs the way there is for red dots or LPVOs.
@ameritus90415 ай бұрын
That sweet, sweet government money doesn't help either. All the nicer ones are made to take advantage of military contracts, and why would they sell it to you or me for less than what the government is paying for it? And the government doesn't care about 1000% markups.

I'm certain mass manufacturing ruggedized optical chassis that need to be able to handle recoil and rough handling yet remain in a repeatable zeroed state for a service life of at least a year or two isn't cheap or simple. The Chinese don't care about market perception they want to dominate every market they can, if they could sell us lams that people want to use for >$500 I'm positive they would. I've only done minor work with Javelin & TOW optical systems and even that wasn't my main job so I really don't know what it takes to miniaturize and production/cost optimize these ruggedized optical chassis, though I have a feeling it's a real engineering challenge.

All of those previous comments are wrong. Military acquisitions infantryman here, the lasers are governed and heavily regulated by the FDA. the theory behind the cost is to make it as cost prohibitive as possible for a normal civilian user. In the old days the feds were really scared of the population getting military combat capabilities, so with regulation comes cost. They destroyed our economy and intentionally makes the regulations add fees to licensing products. Their fear was a populist uprising that would undo their Jewish control of the usury system we are enslaved by today. Making costs high is their way of throttling your accessibility, without unconstitutionally banning them outright or they would have. Time to wake up water heads.

I’m honestly surprised no company makes a “user serviceable” ir laser that is coincidentally very easy to swap the .7mw or whatever regulated laser with a “.7mw” (full power) laser from eBay or temu or something. They just want the user to be able to tinker with the unit if it gets damaged or whatever excuse, it’s not their fault the user stuck a powerful laser in it. Looks like theres a couple of creature comforts included, but the top slider looks like it has no detents and just a smooth slide design and its located right on the top of the f'ing thing which is bad, I'm gonna bump that into a different setting all the time and have to re adjust it, I just know it. Looks cooler than an LS321, but that's not saying much because everything looks cooler than a LS321, it has a rear activation button which I do like, probably the feature I like the most about it to be honest. I just struggle to see why Holosun would invest so much time and money into R&D of a product that I bet you has the exact same performance as a LS321. I predict theyll either stop making the LS321 or the Iris after awhile because the two just seem to have a lot of overlap and the costs of the two are so similar that it doesnt make sense to make both.

if it's the same as the LS321, it's trash But it's vcel, which means they somewhat understand the FDA power dynamic, I would find it really weird if then ended up doing all that to just role with crap powered. also the slider is really stiff, and has light detents.

@@novagroup2 yeah fingers crossed that it has higher power. Its holosun so we probably wont see it for awhile and whenever it officially releases it will be Unobtanium for awhile if it's good. Hop made a good point about the power output, how some smaller companies, can get away with putting out full powered LAM's but I dont know if Holosun can get away with it or if the US federal government even gives enough of a shit if it was full powered. Better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

@@FinalLugiaGuardian that's not exactly what he said. They covered the LS321 in their all inclusive comprehension of all US commercially available LAM's on the list. In the real world list the LS321 was on top with the DBAL D2, both at the top for different reasons. Why the LS321 is so good, is mainly because the US LAM market is so bad. Bad bad. Like really fucking bad. The LS321 is something you can buy where it wont loose its value, you'll be able to sell it for about just as much as you got it for. Performance is trash but so is the competition at the pricepoint it comes at. Holosun is a real company that will replace or fix your shit if it breaks and quicker than Steiner and that's saying something. For around 700 dollars you get VIS and IR laser plus illuminator at the cucked power output. You arent getting anything with those features for that price unless its airsoft. The LS321 is everything it needs to be and nothing it doesnt all for 700 dollars. They're durable, yes they are, at this point enough of them have been put to use and the ones that are bad are usually bad out of box and you just contact Holosun and theyll make it right and you get a LAM that works. The reason it's so weak is to comply with some BS federal regulation that says civilians are not to have lasers over a certain power level, not because makers are incompetent. As they put it, an LS321 will never loose its usefulness. It's a beginner LAM that you will want to upgrade for the sole purpose of "more powa", other than the power, the LS321 is pretty much perfect and more than adequate for the price you'll pay. Youll upgrade to a D2 and put it on your main rifle and the LS321 will then make it's way to a backup rifle you have that can be used by a friend. At closer distances the power of the LS321 is wholly adequate so there really isnt any need for anything extra on a PCC like a MPX or Scorpion. That's where my LS321 is on right now and it works out really well. So it's good because it's bad in a bad market but it's cheaper, it works, it's simple, and thats what makes it good at being bad.
