@@Pearcewreck Somebody in another video commented that he rage-quit. Probably a combination of that missed volley and the high probability of now having to play at least 2 more hours, rather 3. Maybe taking a breath, sitting down for some seconds, might have changed his decision. Too bad. Like Zverev-Nadal in 2022 French Open, this could have been historic : (

Everyone who booed in that crowd deserves to be banned from attending matches for life. An injury is an injury and it’s not fair that Djokovic got booed because he got hurt. It was an amazing set and Djokovic retiring doesn’t take away from that. Good on Zverev for calling them out.

Smart move on Novak's part. He knows his body the best, and he knew what the injury was. Never play through an injury that serious. Had he done so, it could've been one-and-done for him this year: season-ending. He's clearly still able to play with the best; he's still very dangerous and can go deep into slams. I hope he lets his body fully heal so he can sustain peak lethality at at least two of the remaining slams this year.

Those people are the best of the best in a sports/subject I like, I watch, I enjoy. How could I be so ignorant booing/disturbing a player or team instead of cheering on my player/team, and just witness a maybe even better opponent, as an enthusiast of said sports? Too many sheeple thinking they need to hate on the neighbour village, like they're protagonists of The Simpsons when there was Springfield vs Shelbyville. Totally fine of course, if you're 4 years old.

Tbh it's already shocking for me that a 50% Djokovic can defeat Alcaraz 3 days ago. I also thought when he let go of the point during 6-5 40-0 (Zverev's serve), he just wants to go to tiebreak, turns out he just can't reach that ball. Well, grats Zverev for another GS final and speedy recovery Nole

I can understand why people would boo Djokovic. I mean there have been umpteen occasions when he has been grimacing in pain but he goes onto play the entire match without any hindrance to his movement. Here he seems to be moving largely unhindered and then quits immediately after he loses the first set. Why did he take the court when he was injured? Would he have quit had he won the set? With Djokovic, you just don’t know when he is actually injured and when he is pretending.

Indeed. The plan seemed to aim for a 3-0 to have some tennis left fot the final, otherwise Sinner would toy with him, or worst, not reach the final and making his injury worst and thus missing some tournaments.

That's wisdom. A 5 set match with an injury then getting hammered by Sinner in the final, and possibly risk missing the next major?! That would had been juvenile. I believe he would have continued if he won the first set, something tells me that was the plan from the start.

So sad that Djokovic was injured and unable to continue the match - he must have been in some serious pain. I wish him a speedy recovery. And as for the booing crowds, they were in a minority, but their behaviour soured a poignant moment. Remember who those booers werel they are showing their true nature, that they have no empathy. Who would want friends like that?!

Discerning fans who have competed in gruelling type of sport will give credit to any participant who shows up to compete despite carrying an injury. Zverev demonstrated admirable sportsmanship in his response to Djokovic. It should be emphasised Djokovic turned up on court and tried to compete against the world's number 2 and not some low ranking opponent.

The wheel did rotate in the favour of Zverev. After his awful injury against Nadal at RG in the semifinal, now he goes to the final after his opponent is forced to retire after an injury. Maybe he also wins it and gets a well deserved trophy that he is missing, after winning everything possible at just 27 years old. He won masters 1000, atp tour finals and olympic gold. Also as a curiosity, Zverev will go down in history as the only tennis player to beat Djokovic at AO and Nadal at RG.

Not surprised at all. He would have retired eventually even if he had won the tiebreaker. His muscle tear is darn serious esp for a 37.7 year old athlete. Father time spares no athlete. Djo might never win another title (99). Even he knows his tennis mortality is fast approaching.

In a way I can understand why the crowd weren't happy paying all that money out for 1 set of very ordinary tennis. Novak should have been aware that his injury wasn't going to hold up for the remaining of the Tournament and forfeited against Alcaraz. Now he has just handed the Tournament to Sinner.
