This match was epic in so many ways. The best youngster of the upcoming generation against the best guy of the leaving generation. And also, Alcaraz played his 1st ever Olympic Games and surely, not the last but Novak played his 5th and probably last Olympic Games. Then also, the match was on clay on the exact same place where Alcaraz won RG just a few months ago. And above all that the quality of the match was extremely high and we saw exceptional talent, elegance and winners spirit and fight for every point by both players. So high that none of them could make a break and Novak only could decide the outcome in the 2 tie breaks. Probably the best ever "best of 3 sets" match ever played, if not the best, because of who played it, at which stage of their career, where it was played and what it meant to be the winner. If there is 1 match Alcaraz and Djokovic will always remember in their career, it will probably be this one because it is unrepeatable.
@Steevy84Ай бұрын
I don't know, Cincinatti final last year was just epic, with a match point saved ( again lol ) He just lost to Alcaraz in Wimbledon final prior to that, and started losing confidence, then was 1 set down, and matchpoint against him in Cinci against Alcaraz again. Then Nole, as he always does, turned the tables and won the match against all odds, and got this confidence boost that allowed him to win US open then ( while Alcaraz took months to recover mentally from that defeat ). It was really a turning point in Novak's career, and was probably what enabled him to win his last grand slam title to this day.

If there is one thing I noticed about Djokovic's game in 2024 compared to 2023, it's his serve that is no longer as vicious as it used to be His game is still TOP NOTCH, but his serve is really getting him in trouble. Even at the start of 2025 when he lost against Opelka, I noticed the lack of free points he used to get.
@Summon2568 күн бұрын
@@janjan55555 I wouldn't draw conclusions regarding his real level, based on performances on smaller ATP250/500 tournaments! He'll show his real serving level at the AO, where Murray will be alongside him too...

If he is fully motivated he'll elevate his level, when it's needed the most, like he did at the Olympics. His focus is grand slams in 2025 and not much else. So i totally expect his serve to be as good as it ever been by the time AO kicks in. He and Murray are already working on that...too much drama based on one unimportant loss at the start of the year after not playing for several months. LOL

@@Summon256 I am looking at the overall state of his serve in 2024! You really think his loss against a SERVE robot worries me?! Nah, I am looking at a vital weapon of Nole that isn't as vicious anymore. Granted at the Olympics his serve was excellent, then again so was Alcaraz' serve. Regularly pulling out 200+ kmh serves... I wish him all the best, we shall see how he fares against Sinner or Alcaraz. I hope his movement is fresh, one thing these youngsters have on their side is their agility on court.

Novak's excellent game planning led to his Olympic gold win. He focussed on the Singles and managed to win. Spain instead, fielded Al Caraz and Nadal both in Singles and doubles spoiling both. If Al Caraz fought in the Singles alone ,he would have won the gold medal. Similarly if Nadal played for doubles with another Spanish player he would have won gold in doubles. Continous matches without rest spoiled the chances of both. Most disheartening is the pathetic losses of Nadal. Such a great player should not have cut a sorry figure at the fag end of his career.😢
