It’s truly makes me wonder if Guilliman gene line is much more savage than what it’s first appears to be considering how many of his successors tend to become savages warriors, but then I am reminded of their Legion original name as the Warrior Born and perhaps the reason why that may be important is the fact that just like the Angel to the Blood Angels become more stable, Guilliman presence stops his sons from becoming more savage.

IIRC the original Ultramarines were taken from all over the world (Terra), including cannibal tribes (kinda like the Mortifactors) but all had in common that they were sons (or orphans) of several of the most recalcitrant opponents of the Emperor in the unification effort; I think they purpose of the geneticist giving them one of the most stable gene-seed was to instill in them the need for cohesion, hierarchy and organization that comes with the genes of Guilliman; I think you are onto something regarding some deep aggression and blind fury that was tamed by blood and practice but never faded away completely and flourishes in those chapters that are far away from Macragge and the influence of the Ultramarines proper.
