There have been land sales in America and Canada, that land has been bought by European zios and just like Jacob the settler from NY they will fly over there one day and claim that land as their own. It was utterly appalling to watch the BBC today with dramatic self congratulatory coverage of the holocaust memorial without a moments reference to the current genocide. The most sickening part was that much of the message was about the importance of not forgetting whilst deliberately forgetting the ongoing genocide by Israel. Ironically that story was followed by the current state of the Israeli genocide as if they were not related.

As a PhD student in machine learning, the markets reaction to deep seek is kind of insane. Any improvements in efficiency by deep seek on their inferior compute will only be taken by the American companies and scaled up to their enormous server farms. Anyone thinking that these methods mark any kind of threat to Google or OpenAI do not understand deep learning at all. Edit: additionally, I'm really not convinced by this "necessity driving innovation" argument. Everyone is trying to squeeze whatever compute they have. The fact is that with many smart people working all around the world, it's not surprising that some innovations happen outside the US.

AI reminds me of all the advanced tech of the past , it tends to be very overblown in the extreme , like Elon and his Tesla car , the original invention was the British battery run milk floats ,out on every British street daily delivering our milk to our doorsteps for decades. The classic American ego problem will probably sink them sooner rather than later. Like what happened with cars, when in the late 60s the Americans developed "muscle cars" - that could basically do a lot of cool but also illegal things - whereas the Europeans (or Germany, rather) went a whole different way with the focus on "user economics" and safety.
