This song meant SO much to me I never wanted to release it. I wrote a loose idea for the video and then handed it to Laura Kulik to direct the narrative, and seeing it all put together just reminded me of so many beautiful moments with beautiful people who deserved so much more from life. The narrative was shot by Logan Fulton. My parts were shot by Tom MacDonald. Guitar by Gucci Ghost. Thank you to Greg Ogan for getting this instrumental where it needed to be. Written entirely by me. Bad ass girl! Awesome song. As a 38 yr old woman from southern Louisiana it hit hard. I made it and I survived but I cannot forget those who didn't and there was many. I grew up and became successful, I'm a lost girl that married my lost boy. We now have a beautiful family and broke the cycle, but part of me will always be a lost girl with a little black heart and wild spirit. Thanks for this Nova and Congrats girl! ❤

I was one of those Lost Girls back in the early '90s. Started hitchhiking from a juvenile facility just outside of Pittsburgh and eventually ended up in San Francisco. Found a family of street kids. A few of us made it out to this side of life. Most did not. This song made me cry, Nova. Thank you for sharing, from all of us!❤

Me too, 1993. In Tasmania, Australia. Age 16, I skipped state, got a 26yo violent skitzohrenic bf, ( had 2 kids to him ), was on and off streets wid him in Sydney, then bk to Tasmania, at night gets to -3°, fkn cold af , them streets. I'm now 47, 7 years clean, holy wow tho, I only got out from all that, with the help from the Lord 🙏 he saved me. I've lost over 100 mates. There's only 9 of us left, aparantly, from over 300 at least. RIP to alla my lost mates ❤ love U guys

I tried to be the mother I didn't have growing up. I failed in a lot of ways (i sheltered them too much), but all my babies graduated, have stable jobs, and are not on drugs. I count that as a win! Breaking the cycle is really hard.

I have a nephew who was a lost boy and after several years he's finally clean and has his life back on track. We lost his mom, my sister, to substance abuse and not because she od'd, but because she was murdered by the people who sold her the stuff. I had a friend in school who was one of these Lost Girls. We always tried to be a safe place for her to go when it got so bad at home. She overcame it and came through to the other side. As a grandmother my first-born granddaughter was a lost girl on the streets for over two years. She reached out to me recently and is on the path to living a healthy lifestyle and making new memories. I never judged her, never abandoned her. For anyone reading this, you matter more than you know, don't ever give up. I haven't seen my daughter in 2 years now. The pain I feel is unlike anything I've ever been through. I'm trying to heal the wounds but the stitches ripped too. Holidays make it hard to move, idk how many times I can keep telling myself once the seasons are over I'll feel better, but I find myself breaking down. All I know now is you're not around, to show me anything kool, that you've found. Damn man, this hit me right in the feels. I'm 63 now. From 13 to 20 I was off the rails; drugs, drinking, fighting. When I went to a bar I expected to fight, wanted to fight - i needed the pain and release. After being arrested (again) I was heading to court and on that day I met the love of my life. I married her a year later, she saved me. Thank you Nova for this song, it reminds me of where I started and where I am now. You and Tom ROCK!

@novarockafeller I came to your channel through Toms just out of curiosity and firstly I would like to say that it is criminal that you haven't been properly recognized for the amazing work you do on Tom's videos. The sets, videography and production is just outstanding. I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't tried stealing you from Tom lol secondly, this is the first song I have heard from you and I have been completely blown away by it. As someone who went through the system in Northern Ireland from birth I can totally relate to what this song is about. I lost friends due to drink and drugs, and being from N/Ireland I also lost some from bullets and bombs. As a recovering addict who's been clean for nearly 20 years I can really feel your pain in this song. The lyrics hit home and your voice is stunning. I have just bought it and will probably be playing on repeat for the next few weeks. Lost girl here. But now I'm found. 40yrs old now. Been married, divorced, engaged, I had a son. Been lost up until a few years ago. The 'lost girl' period from my teenage years followed me well into my adult life. Always looking for a home I never had, attracting other lost and hurt souls, people without a real family and home (divorced parents and no one cared about us, we raised ourselves, we hung in the parks and parking spaces and abandoned places, we smoked pit together and spend the weekends outdoors and couch surfed with whomever wanted to lend us a sleeping place, we were 'smooth criminals ', weren't good guys, but didn't do real crime either, we had each other's back, the family we didn't have in our real family, we tried to raise each other, but ended up drinking, smoking pot and dating th3 wrong people and getting in trouble here and there, we bought each other food etc, lost in the world, found ourselves in each other, some of us turned out fine). I have an apparemment now. Rental one, but still. My blood family is messed up, but me and my mom made up after many many years. I have a beautiful flock of chickens now and a couple of quail couples I have a decent garden now. I created my home for me. It's just me though. Everyone else either went rogue, turned into real criminals, or became 'good people ' with everything figured out where a troubled teen in her mid thirties didn't fit in anymore ( I was a troubled lost teen girl up until 3 years ago). I messed up badly. But right now, am in a good place. I don't feel lost anymore.

I worked in the foster care system for 15 years. I hope you have some idea how much this song can impact the lives of teens in foster care who feel so alone. This message of being in touch with their emotions and this message of hope could save more “lost girls” than you’ll ever know. Powerful, Nova. I'm old and this wasn't my experience, but after I left a dysfunctional home and started my adult life, everything blew apart there and my baby sister became a "lost girl." She has never recovered and it seems like now she's just waiting for this life to be over. You pierced my heart this morning and have given me insight that has changed my perspective. ❤

Nova you brought me way back when life sucked. I was 14yrs old when I was sent to my first foster home. My parents were divorced and I guess I was to wild for them. I blocked out that part of my life until I listened to your song. It came flooding back and I can't lie it hit hard. I have been trying to write this for days now but the tears stopped me. I just wanted someone to tell me that they loved me and I never heard it. I never let go of those feelings and I guess that's where my fuck you attitude came from. This song played for me on Pandora and I immediately had to come to this video. What a great, earth moving song. I spent 2 years as a homeless youth. I lost everything, became an addict…. I even traveled and hopped freight trains. I hope this music touches sooooo many people, the ones who knew, and know suffering. Nova spoke to me with this song. I can relate in so many ways it brought me to tears. Peace love and good vibes! TO WHOEVER IS READING THIS: You are NOT your trauma. You are not what happened. Sometimes people are given the shit stick in life, and it’s not about the cards your dealt, but how you choose to play. ❤️ P.s. I ended up saying “this isn’t me. This isn’t my life or what I want. I don’t deserve to be outside like a wild animal” -I packed up my stuff and stormed out of the old concrete hopper I was sleeping in, middle of December, and walked half a mile to apply for section 8 housing, and a domestic violence shelter. 3 months later, I was putting the key in the door to my first apartment. Oh wow, I wasn't expecting that emotional rollercoaster. I grew up with drug addict parents, was put in foster care where I was separated from my siblings and molested so I ran away and stayed with friends for a few years. I've never heard a song that I could relate to so much. You are amazing! I'm glad that you're able to be an independent artist now!!!

Speaks to my inner child so much, I remember when I was 14 and homeless when I'd feel so lost and alone crying my eyes out saying to myself "God I just want to go home" even tho I knew that it doesn't exist and I never had one to even miss. My husband lost his mom at 12 years old. At 16, despite the fact that his step mom and father were well off, he was homeless. We built our life. A humble, but beautiful life. A small home that we bought, 2 special needs kids and 2 fur babies that we love. He had nightmares for years that he had drugs. Something he sold and used to survive. Enjoy your beautiiful life. My daughter has functional Asperger's syndrome and could have easily become a lost girl. The reason why she didn't was because I've let her stay by my side so the world can't eat her. She's in her 30s and lives with me and my wife (her stepmother), and will until I die. When I pass she'll still never become a lost girl, because her brother has already stepped into place to be her shield when I'm gone. This song and video make me glad that she's never had to go through the pain that a lot of unloved girls go through. Dads, remember that you're not a dad for just 18 years. When you're blessed with the gift of being able to be a parent, you're a dad for life - no matter what.

For real, Em was so motivated at first in his career until he realized he had no control of his life after signing the contract and his music slowly declined and now when you listen to his music he lost the energy in his voice and he uses filler words at times more than he ever did, he sounds burned out or exhausted from being in his postion with all those brand deals and companies that will oust him if he supports independent artists or raps about real life stuff. Loneliness, constant fear, self-loathing, feeling worthless, try to be strong and act tough on the outside, but screaming for help on the inside. Attaching to people who are there in the moment. Ugly cried for 2 days because this song brought back memories I have tried to bury. Past is the past and needs to stay there... for mental health reasons. Thank you for listening, Thia.
