I've had my IMPULSE 61 for about 18 months and love it, but had only scratched the surface, never new where to find a detailed manual. This has been really helpful, thank you! 👍 liked.

I am glad it helped. An impulse 61 would be nice. My main controller is an Axiom 49 gen 2 but I think I will go with an impulse 61 if my axiom ever breaks.

TheAudioDabbler I'm sold on this one. Great arp and it can do rpn and nrpn tramissions through its MIDI output in addition to the regular MIDI CCs. I repaired a few of these a few years ago, but didn't spend time with the arp. I did like the controls and keybed. dis gon b guud, m8

I just got an Impulse 25, the one thing that was going to fail for me was the apparent lack of a latch button for the arp, but I see now that a sustain pedal is required to serve as a latch for the arp. Good enough, I'm keeping it. I was hoping that a sustain pedal would be the latch, indeed it is.

@TheAudioDabbler3 жыл бұрын
It is just a midi controller. No internal sounds. You would have to use a computer or iOS device and external speakers. It only controls software or hardware synths.

Very good entry men! I may ask you if Impulse is compatible wih Launchpad app?
@TheAudioDabbler3 жыл бұрын
I dont think it is compatible with it. I do wish they would open up the Launchpad app for other midi controllers but as I do have a Launchpad Pro, Its not a real concern to me. You can pick up a launchpad mini for pretty cheap and it would be great for live use with the launchpad app.

My wife, needs to trigger drum loops bass loops, and do some diddly doos on the keys to fill in and add a melody while I play guitar and sing, thats it… Simple stuff at first. Will this do what she needs? And can this hook up via USB to PC for triggering Ableton for the loops and stuff.
@TheAudioDabbler2 жыл бұрын
This would work but I might look at the Launchkey series. Better design for ableton loop triggering. They have different key sizes as well. So you could get a 25, 37, or 49 for keyboard sizes.

With your setup (Korg iM1, Loopy, Audiobus), did your knobs sync in realtime? I have the 25, and I'm trying to set it up to use for live gigs. I've only run it through Garageband, and the knobs are useless with that :(
@TheAudioDabbler7 жыл бұрын
yes, I had loopy sending out the tempo to the novation. Worked pretty flawless the few times I tested it. Of course you are not limited to loopy. Any app that can send tempo should be able to send the tempo out to the novation. There is an app called Midi Link Sync that seems to work really well with sending midi clock to external gear, plus it has ableton link built into it as well. itunes.apple.com/us/app/midi-link-sync/id1071048493?mt=8&at=1010luhU

Hi, I would like to have your advice concerning a midi controller for iPad Air 2. I don't want to buy an alesis iodock, I would prefer to investing into a midi controller which include a sound card for exemple an MPC renaissance, or à Novation X25. In your opinion do you think the MPC renaissance would fit to the IPad with a USB to lightening cable converter?
@TheAudioDabbler7 жыл бұрын
I have no experience with midi controllers with built in sound cards. Seems like several came out but never took off. Could have had issue when combing both in 1 unit. Whatever you choose, make sure it is class compliant or it will not work with the iPad. That being said, what are your input requirements for the audio interface? Guitar, external synth, microphones, record player? Will this be in a studio environment or live or both? ie portability concerns? Me personally, I would recommend a separate audio interface and midi controller. That way you have options to expand or change your setup without having to reconfigure everything. Plus if something breaks, you don't have to start from scratch either. Please reply back and we can continue with this dialog to help you make the best decision.

Hey mate. Got a powered hub and it's not working with ipad. Which one did you get to work? Cheers
@TheAudioDabbler6 жыл бұрын
I was using a small belkin but that one has bit the dust. I now have an off brand from amazon and it seems to work. I have also tried several and really haven't found one that didn't work. I have recently ran into an issue with my original CCK. It seems to have gone bad. Not sure why, maybe because its really old and has been lugged around alot. Check cables, make sure its getting adequate power, and maybe try it with a computer to see if its working. Let me know if you figure it out. BTW, are you getting an error message? what are you trying to use with it?

Great demo, nice to see the serious MIDI controllers can work with the iPad. Quick question ... if I have two synth apps running on my iPad, one is set to receive on MIDI ch 1 and the other is set to receive on MIDI ch2. and I have an ARP being sent to the app on ch 1 from the Impulse. When I switch to MIDI ch 2 on the Impulse, to play a solo over the arp, will it continue to send the arp signal out on ch1?
@TheAudioDabbler7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. That is a good question. I have since gotten rid of the impulse and I regret it on a daily basis. From what I remember, I think it works on a global channel, so if you switched channels, I am sure the arp would also switch channels and start sending on channel 2. I don't believe the impulse can send on 2 different midi channels at the same time.

I use an Axiom 49 Gen 2, Arturia Minilab mkii, and my Korg Trition Taktile 25. I have heard good things about the keystep. I need a good dedicated pad controller. I thought about the MPD232.

I’m a bit confused ... is each midi channel assigned to a different IAA? Could this be done in AUM? You show midi channel 1 as playing through iM1 .. what are the other midi channels playing and how did you assign them. I’m sorry if this is a really stupid question but for some reason my brain is blocked on this and I’m not seeing the obvious. I would love to see you do some more tutorials on using the impulse with the iPad since you’re the only one who’s touching this with quality info. Maybe if I could just come over to your house for a couple of hours 😃 Love everything you do!!
@TheAudioDabbler6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. I have iM1 setup in multi mode, which allows for up to 8 different instruments on different midi channels. So it can act as a really great sound source for easily switching between instruments. I may have covered this aspect in one of my iM1 videos but if I haven't I can surely do one showing that.

Hi, I am also looking for a decent midi controller keyboard for my ipadwith an idock ll recording using apps like Loopy,Auria pro,AUM etc. I made the mistake of purchasing the Alesis V149 and finding out you couldn't change midi channels without using a pc so it was useless with the ipad. Alesis community were useless and didn't respond so took it back to the store for a refund.
@TheAudioDabbler7 жыл бұрын
I really loved the impulse25 when I had it. As you can see in my video, super easy to change parameters, midi channel, etc. If I ever get an opportunity to own another one, I will. It does require a powered usb hub but since you have an iDock, it should be fine. I also have an m-Audio Axiom 49 gen 2. As there is no PC/MAC editor, everything is done on the controller itself. A little finger dancing but once you get a handle on changing things, its pretty simple. Depending on the size you are wanting, I just picked up the Arturia MiniLab mk2. Its great for a small, compact 25 key controller. Loads of knobs and 2 banks of 16 pads. You can easily change the midi channel, although most other parameters need a pc or mac to edit.
@Ian-gw2vx7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. My other option is the similar Akai MPK25. Have you tried that ?
@TheAudioDabbler7 жыл бұрын
I have not tried the MPK25. Seems like a fairly feature rich controller with onboard editing abilities. Aftertouch is always fun to have. I have played the MPK Mini but the keys on it are not really playable for me, they are way smaller than they appear in pictures.
@Ian-gw2vx7 жыл бұрын
I think I am gravitating to the Novation but in a bit of a conundrum. I want the small, portability of the 25 key but really play with 2 hands. The 49 key is way too heavy and bulky. Some reviews also say keys feel cheap.
@TheAudioDabbler7 жыл бұрын
Maybe look at the xkey 37. A lot of people love it, and its lightweight and portable. I haven't tried it myself but I have read that the keys feel really good. You could pair that with an Akai MPD218 and have both keys and pads. Both fairly portable. I hope to one day build me something like this to house a midi controller, my interface, maybe small foot controller, iPad and macbook. www.synthtopia.com/content/2016/02/02/custom-keyboard-cases-by-jl-design-2016-namm-show/

Date 5/9/2019 picked up a Novation impulse,see 49 for 79 bucks. The seller said everything else Jed but he lied. The C key second from the right, your middle c was dead. The good thing is there are a dozen tiny aluminum screws around the parimeter of the back. Remove those. Take a picture of cables. I marked mine with different colored sharpies. Then you should see 2 rows of black philips screws. Remove these. Remove keyboard. springs and clips hold the keys in place and come apart. You'll see it's probably filthy in there. Clean carefully. While the machine is open remove the screen and clean the glass . Mine was really filthy
