Novation Launchpad Light Show TUTORIAL

A brief tutorial to demonstrate the setup and techniques I use to make light patterns on the Launchpad.
This is more an outline of what I do, which you can then build upon yourself, as you will see I go more in depth on the setup and leave the fun of programming in to the viewer :)
REMEMBER CTRL+B AND CTRL+D ARE YOUR FRIENDS, USE THEM
Oh and learn what patterns look like ie: lines or squares on the launchpad so you can type them in without needing to refer with the record arm. Also use copy and paste a lot.
(I'll add the colour velocity values here later)
This is my first tutorial at anything ever, so feedback would be nice. My laptop can't deal with screen recorders hence the camera. And sorry in advance if the whole hybrid Scottish and Norfolk accent cross is a tad difficult to understand.

for your next tutorial id suggest using fraps to record the computer screen and in a corner in the video,the launchpad recorded with a camcord or something.Hope it helps! :)

you have to change the "moniter" to "In" instead of "auto". you should find the Moniter tab under the "MIDI From" tab

Make sure that in your midi preferences you have the remote on for launchpad output

I did basically the same thing at my camp on an iPad with launch key and groovebox. so basically there are 16 lights at the top 2 rows of 8 lights. and yeah so I wasted ~5 hours goofing off with that.

Question: I know how to make a lightshow with the launchpad, but how do you trigger it to do a certain light pattern when you hit a certain pad? Would GREATLY appreciate a response of any kind!

thanks for the tutorial ! couldnt you have just manualy recorded the pattern with the launchpad itself ? and then change the colors manualy maby at a lower bpm and with quantize , and then speed it up ? great tutorial :)

How do i make it so the buttons on the right also change the set lights too. Like, i have a set of lights programmed for the music to the first button on the right, but when i press the second one down, its the same lights

When i do this with my launchpad S, after the point when we create a new clip on the MIDI channel, if i press a button on the launchpad in user 1 mode, i will see the note light up on the screen, but the button does not light up on the launchpad.

bro, just double click the clip and a piano roll will pop up underneath. Make sure you're using a midi section, not audio

I have it all set up like in the video but for the midi track when I click "MIDI To" the launchpad isn't in the options. It just says none or configure. Also in the preferences the Output: Launchpad Output text is in red. Please help

Hey te queria preguntar, si sabes como cargar efectos en el modo user 1, y que tegan el efecto de modo que mientras lo mantegas presionado este activado y si lo sueltas se desactive.Y o au no he podido configurar el automap este artista hace lo que te dijexx el usa los efectos en user 1 y en modo moentary. ¿sabes hacerlo? ¿se hace con el drum rack o con automap? de ser drum rack ¿como hago para que esos efectos afecten al master?, gracias de antemano

hey barry I'm out atm so I don't have the launchpad at hand to check. When plugged in it should have the launchpad as an in and out on the midi tab of the options. If it doesn't I don't know what to suggest. in the I/O of the MIDI track you're using to program the lights, can you select the launchpad as the out destination from there? Sorry I can't be more help

Man, I have a question. For example, i want four pads light up by pressing one and start audio clip with it. I map audio clip an midi clip that contains information of color and pads being lighten up, it works cool but the pad I press lights with yellow color while the others light as I set them. Also if I map anything to a pad it lights up with yellow even if I don't create LED feedback track. Is it possible to avoid?

I honestly wasn't aware of this and i am using laughpad for a while now. However... what is the sole purpose of this? Not to dis your work. As I can't see any use for this while doing a live set for this. But i am always eager to learn
