INSURANCE: I just purchased a 1988 Gulfstar 49 and had the same problem as you. I operated a 64' Burger when I was younger but the biggest boat I own was a 28 Aqua Sport. I got insurance through Offshore Risk Management based on my resume and it was very reasonable. Good Luck 🤞, love your show. See you on the Loop!

Wow! You all saw a lot of boats, so many choices and possibilities. I think the Johnson s it. You could do the loop in it tomorrow and it has almost everything you want/ need. Walk arounds, Aft deck and nice swim platform, etc. You say it may need a make over but it could do the loop as is. If you get it soon you may have time to do a makeover. Yes the insurance market has changed (quickly), even since we got our loop boat several months ago (Carver 466). Good luck! Pick something soon so you have time to do the things want/ need to do. Spring is coming quickly.

If you are still looking for a boat you might want to checkout a recently listed 53 Hatteras at Lake Texoma in north Texas. Just came on the market and listed for $260K with Plano Marine at Highport Marina. Boat has been in fresh water for 30 years and well cared for and updated. We own a 1986 501 Chris Craft so not in the market but this is one I would consider as a alternate next to mine. I know you prefer a 54-56 footer because of the beam but this is a handsome boat and will serve your loop adventure very well. Only downside is you would need to haul on a truck for about 200 miles north to Arkansas River near Muskogee, OK and from there you are on the loop. Lake Texoma has a huge collection of large Chris Crafts, Hatteras, Marquis, Carver, and Bluewaters ranging from 50-70 nearly all of which were trucked to Muskogee or south to Houston. Let me know if you would like to chat - we are in Frisco, TX about an hour south of the lake.

I think the Johnson, of the three you showed. I have looked at that particular boat many times. We’re you not considering the Aft cabin to be the master? Would certainly give u privacy from your kiddos. The insurance thing is scary. I will be in the market for a loop boat in 3 to 5 years. Would getting training from a captain or a license solidify insurance? Good luck with your search. Your videos give me great info
@TheBoomershines3 жыл бұрын
We would definitely use the aft cabin as the master -- we just saw the VIP first and were a bit confused. As we understand it, insurance is based on a number of factors including what you have owned in the past and your experience on the water. It also depends on the boat. We always say, where there is a will, there is a way. And hopefully insurance will get easier by then.

Read an article that the Coast Guard reported boating accidents up 30% in 2020 and that they were up another 30% so far this year. Be careful out there.

Stepping into a mildew infested boat makes me gag, sorry you had to experience that! I would pick the Viking because space, and separate spaces, will be the most valuable thing you can bring on your trip. Also, it has a huge empty foredeck for loungers, chairs, even a table that can be set up in minutes after you dock. I don’t imagine a lot of Mediterranean style docking on the loop. Honestly, I think you have VBS’d some better choices. Thanks for the update!
@TheBoomershines3 жыл бұрын
I'm coming around to thinking space gets ranked over looks LOL. And I'd agree -- there are a few past boats we've reviewed that I would prefer (ie the Marlow or Flemming or Grand Banks Aleuthian or Nordhavn Costal Pilot LOL). Cinda

I don’t see the sexy in the Mekenna vs the practical nature of the Johnson. The Johnson is sleek with a dose of practical. Sexy fads fast and practical lasts. Go with the Johnson. It’s a perfect compromise that will make for a usefully memorable loop run.

Good afternoon Boomershine's, As the agent for said SeaCat's, I FuzzyNugget say any of those three will make my clients happy, you must remember the SeaCat's will get the "Zoomies" and from the video it appears my fellow felines will have plenty of zooming space, however, the concerns said felines brought up to me is : " Where will our feline head be located?" We as felines do need our privacy too. My Human wants to include his input... Hello, I was amazed at each of the three... I believe you can not go wrong with any of them. As a single guy/sailor who is searching for the elusive Chris Craft 501, I say buy all three and do the loop in thirds.... Joking... Good luck on your continued search.. Safe travels 🙏 Scott and FuzzyNugget 🐈

One specific point regarding the Johnson; (“How long is your Johnson?” “Nice Johnson, didn’t they have a longer one?”). Do ya want that at every dock you visit? Do you have the list of snappy comebacks required to own a 60’ Johnson? 🤔😂🤣

I love my 57 McKinna. It is a little light on the storage in the galley but great storage elsewhere. Any boat mechanic or surveyor knows the quality of the boat but the average Joe has no clue. Because of that, the resale of the McKinna is a steal.

hello Boomershines...first of all love your channel you guys are fun, but.....BUY A BOAT ALREADY! let's work this out, you need a shallow draft, low bridge clearance, three stateroom yacht....But you want it to be big...lol...good luck you will be land lubbers forever.....I would suggest the Hatteras 48'LRC, tutor sleeps in the pilothouse, the bunk behind the dinette is super cozy and large, family down and forward, it would work . if you can cruise America in a Westphalia, you could do the LRC, also its made in America by the king of the yacht world Jack Hargrave!!!!!, small enough that you can keep it when you're done and when you hit the Florida keys the world will be your oyster. if you went with the older 53' Hatteras (the nice one) that you looked at like 100 years ago..lol...you would spend a ton more on fuel....BUT...still a great choice. nevertheless the 48' LRC is what Nordhaven tried to copy and failed, Fleming comes a little closer but it is still made in China. i know it is hard to find well maintained old boats, but I think it is even harder to find short, shallow, big boats. Remember you can buy a new couch, coffee maker and blankets, BUT you can not change the haul design, and Jack Hargrave built the best hauls. finally....super safe for the girls, the Detroits are cool like and old pan-head Harley Davidson, and you should be able to get it INSURED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!love your channel...keep being you,

LOL We are doing our darndest to buy a boat but it isn't easy. I am an eternal optimist so I am hopeful that we will find the perfect boat that meets all our requirements in time to set sail this spring. But it is getting tight! We LOVE Hatteras. Nothing compares in terms of livability. But we do need three staterooms so the 48 Long Range Cruiser is out for us as it only has two staterooms. The longer LRC's with three staterooms are too deep for the loop. We are about to post a VBS on a great Hatteras 56 Widebody so stay tuned. Thanks so much for watching and cheering us on.

soooo....how does one get experience on a larger vessel if one cannot purchase a larger vessel? Buy a 50' skow for $30k, float for a year and give her a viking funeral?
@TheBoomershines Жыл бұрын
They want you to work your way up. Ideally, you'd start with something like a 30 footer, move up to a 40 footer then a 50 footer. But there are ways around all of this. One way is to hire a captain for a certain number of hours to train you on the larger boat. As we always say, where there is a will, there is a way.
