Novice Ice Climber Gets Tested by Gnarly Climbing and Cold Weather (Les Miserable)

Stas and Philip set out to climb Les Miserable in the Columbia Icefields. Was a phenomenal day that will stay in our minds for quite a while. We were greeted by tough climbing and very engaging conditions. Would highly recommend it to anyone that can get out and do this climb.

Man that ice up there looks so crispy eh! You can really tell we've been having a strong cold snap, looks so solid! Dude these videos with Stas are fucking rad, like the guys so gnarly! I've saw the single rope repel set up but ya nerve racking eh haha I love it, " You really trust that thing eh?" " oh ya" .....sold lol. I love those camp giekos, but I'm also not trying to follow Stas. I'm pretty sure it specifically says in the ice climbing book "if a single pitch takes Stas more than an hour, run the other way"

Seemed like a wonky anchor but I guess it looked good?? Also, I'm thinking about packing the escaper for ice. I think ice is the best application as there is less friction to slow down your tugs after the rap. Have never rapped off one but haven't heard of an accident yet! I think I trust it.

This is what I was most worried about was the escaper... It seemed to work fine albeit took quite a few yanks to get it down. I'm not completely sold on it over just packing 2 doubles but may come in handy in an emergency
