The oldest climber I ever climbed with was a 80 year old woman from the British mountaineering club - the mid 1990s. She climbed harder than me, was fearless, and pushed my limits as a second when she climbed past the length of the belay rope, requiring addition of every sling, and line I had within reach in my kit. On a route that was definitely not suited to both of us off the ground. Then after my own heart, she down climbed to her previous clip point 35m below her top out, before abseiling off. This was adventure climbing, and she had chosen a route none have repeated to this day.

I was wondering the whole time why the instructor didn't ask "Frederick" to remove his scarf. I thought it might pose a safety hazard, like if it were to get caught on something. Now I know it's because the instructor realized it was Magnus from the jump and probably figured: _Eh, I'll let him keep his disguise on. He's a pro, I'm sure he can manage not to choke himself_ 😂

I love how the trainer played along. He didn't ruin your work by just saying "Haha, Magnus..." and so everyone had a lot of fun and we have a great video to watch. It also shows that the human brain isn't that easy to fool. You simply recognize differences when you see an actually aged man and a young dude who wears make-up and afalse hair / beard... and who is also mastering every damn wall like a pro. ;) And thanks for creating a good and funny German accent... I really loved that and how you implemented random German words.

This Trainer is Gold. He just take you and you "shown" abilities as a given while still encouraging you. Also he's positive all the way through, while still 110% professional eg. testing your finger strenght, rope skills and doesn't get sold on "my arms are weak" BS ;-). Heck, I think he could teach me climbing. And I'm scared of hights. And I really likes how he teases you at about minute 20, that the Spanish guy might actually be better than you - not sure if he realized at that moment - but still he's still you best friend while also your drill instructor. Also your actor skills might match your climb abilities.

Reminded me of that one time I was clmbing at two really old men showed up. Their gear looked like it was over 20 years old, even the rope had already seen it's best times. I wondered if I should say something, because from my POV this was really risky. But when he started climbing I felt like a fool. Yes he wasn't the fastest but oh man that old man made the 6a i really struggled with before look easy. When we both reached the top we had a talk: - Turns out he was 82 years old and came from Saxon Switzerland. He had been climbing for nearly 60 years. Insane respect for that man, I hope I'm at least half as fit when I reach that age.
