Anthony Albanese is remissful for exposing Australia to these ever-increasing and real external threats. Every country is increasing their defence budgets in response to global threats. Australian Defence and security experts should be driving and recommending Australia's defence needs and have a 5, 10, 15 and 20-year plan in place to safeguard Australia and ensure our future.

Australia is a smaller population than many countries and larger than some others. It isn't the point. Population doesn't win wars it never really has its been proven throughout history. Australia is a very rich nation for its population size. Australia military is very experienced and highly trained. The issue is Australia had incompetent and corrupt government for many decades. They had no intention on fixing defence to a larger force to actually be able to defend the country and regional surrounding. Instead, it has focused on a small, very highly skilled force that can be used in small, stike operations in a multi strategy force with allies against inferior adversaries, while rely on Uncle Sam to do the heavy lifting for regional defence. Now, times are changing, and the Australian government keeps sitting on it. Either they are incompetent or just stupid or both. Nothing been fixed the ADF is losing capability. And is worse of today than it was 2 decades ogo

I'm not sure why anyone would want to invade Australia . Russia has considerably more resources. China produces 10 times more coal than Australia does , Australia simply exports more than anyone else. Even Indonesia producers 30% more coal . Cut off and subdue Australia would be the name of the game. That would simply involve cutting off oil because we don't produce any

Even if the Albanese government had the spare cash to buy US military equipment, missiles etc. There is little left to purchase. Everything has either been shipped or flown to Ukraine & Israel. And US arms manufacturer's simply can't meet the current demand. South Korea has expanded its military manufacturing base and they fabricate the World's best microchips. Why not place a sizable order with them because not only the items arrive sooner, but they will be far cheaper than the US equivalent.

Firstly, increasing defense spending does not automatically equate to enhanced national security. Secondly, Greg Sheridan supported the Iraq war - why would anybody listen to him.

Are we just going to sit back and accept this shit? Who is going to stand up and say something. This is our countries security we are talking about FFS. Dutton, Hastie, someone. Do something before it is too late. This country needs to buy off the shelf. We simply cannot rely on Australians to make stuff. Greed getting in the way of our Nation's Defence. Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen can't go on strike. Why can civilians working in the Defence Industry? That must change.

Australia militarily is a flea on the bears gonads, so it is best we keep out heads down and initially allow the US to protect their investments and see what happens but in the meantime have national service to be ready

Sheridan and Bolte seem to me to be rational and objective journalists for the most part - but Greg's comment that "this country is a disgrace" (without the caveat that the observation is made only in the context of defence) is alarming. Emotive language like that is perhaps suitable for Year 12 debating forums but it doesn't assist mere plebs like me who try to make sense of it all. Greg? Andrew?

Ive watched over 50 years of multiple elections with a quality of politicians. which basically would get a job laying bitumen in the northern territory We have what we cotnue to elect based on what lies they promise to give us., and we stuidly believe is true. Time for australians to wake us and get rid of the whole basic requirement of those that are supposed to represent"WHAT WE WANT". The days of the Gold card are over.. There ain't any gold left.!
