So many fond memories of the Tallink back and forth to Tallinn with the littles. We'd grab a couple Valio Elia latte bottles, some gifflar rolls then drive on (usually work trips) and set the kids loose in the play area and relax watching the Baltic sea under us for a couple of hours. You'll of course need to take Little Leo down during the holidays to see the square during Christmas (one of the few times I think their central market looks better than Helsinki's). Ahhh.. Aitäh!

As far as I know, Dave is speaking english to Leo, and Cat is speaking swedish to him. So he is learning at least one of the native languages. Finnish he will learn very quickly since everyone in Finland already speaks it. Children learn super quick, and I've even seen adults who learned finnish in a year or two. When you try to learn the native language while living in that country it's waaay faster than learning a foreign language that's not the native language your country speaks. Oh, and I forgot to mention Cat knows finnish so I'm sure she's teaching Leo the basics at least.

My partner is Finnish on his mother's side and used to always have a Finnish passport. However, a few years ago his passport expired and he decided not to get it renewed, because it's so ridiculously expensive, and only valid for five years! I hope it's cheaper for kids!

Only one question, if you live in Finland, and Grown a child there. Why you teach him English first ? Why not The native language, that is way harder than english. Now the child will have problems in school and so on, cause he do not know how to speak Finnish... Seriously

Well, kids learn really fast. English/swedish is taught in finland around 4th or 5th grade, but Leo will be learning finnish from the 1st grade, possibly even earlier. I mean, we don't know every detail in how they're raising their child. They seem like very good parents so I'm sure they know what they're doing. It's not so bad. The education system is very good here and can be tailored for someone's specific needs.
