A good tip is what I do every month. I start my generator and run it for 20 minutes. You don’t want it sitting there for months and years with gas in it and haven’t run it. You will be like hundreds of other with a none running unit. You also need to treat the gas with a treatment like Pri-G. It will keep your gas good for over a year. Especially if your going to store gas, that has to be treated or you will have gallons of turpentine. Mark the gas cans with number and get a clipboard and write down when each one was treated and filled. You need to rotate them out with fresh gas once they reach a year. But I had gas that was over 2 years old and it was still good. I just added more treatment to the gas once it hit a year. I usually just rotate the gas into me car without a problem. I usually add a can or two of my storage gas into my car, then fill the car up with fresh gas and also refill the two empty gas cans. You need to be organized with this or you will run into problems, trust me I know. A clip board helps a lot. The biggest tip I can give is don’t buy the plastic gas cans, they will crack and leak gas. I had some that did that. Buy the metal Jerry cans. Go to “ Coleman Surplus “ look up NATO MILITARY JERRY CANS “ for $39. They are dirty out side that just need a cleaning or painting. But they are brand new inside, never used. Believe me or not, I got over 42 of them. Don’t judge me 😂 you just never know what something can happen. I rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

My father used to get about 12 $1.25 Dollar Tree solar lawn lights. At night, they would come on and light up the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and living room. It's a cheap emergency lighting source.

Great job on the vidja. Alot of people don't realize these simple ways to keep your family safe and healthy with electricity. A power outage for even 3 to 5 days can be VERY hard to get through. Protect yourself people.

Being able to plug it into the house is awesome ! There was a schematic years ago that was in Popular Mechanics that showed how to do it. I’ve always planned to do it but just haven’t. That said I recently bought a tri fuel generator - it run on Gas, Propane or Natural Gas - if I still have Natural Gas available I could connect it to the main. Also my parents house ran on propane and the filled their tank every 6 months forget how big it was, so unless they were real low they always had gas.

Sir you are so right. This is why I have a PROPANE 10.5kw generator. With two 500 gal propane tanks connected to it. People forget if you have no power the Gas station probably has no power. Means no gas. God bless and take care down there.

I would also advise people to keep and maintain a solar generator battery pack 1800 Kwh minimum. When you run the generator, charge up the battery pack at the same time. They usually charge up in 1 hour, and can easily run a refrigerator, window AC unit, etc during the time you are conserving fuel. Excellent advice!

Thank you. The only additional suggestion would be. Before a storm, freezer bottles with water, juice bottles work well. Place in fridge, compressor doesn't have to work as hard, pulls less power on generator. I frozen bottles in fridge when not running generator. Place them in freezer when running generator. God Bless.

The other problem with regular gas generators, they are very loud. So the whole neighborhood knows you have it, and you have gas !

We just live like we are Amish. We don't worry about electricity when the power goes out. We went for 38 days when there was a catastrophic ice storm in 2000 here in Southwest Arkansas. Electricity isn't necessary. It's a luxury. Set up to do as many things as possible without electricity. Oil lamps, go to bed when it gets dark. If the electric is out there will be no internet or cell service.

Here in SWFL - Yep, we have “Experience” with this Topic. DO NOT run genset for Large appliances until power is Out for 12+ hrs. My freezer OUTSIDE on Lanai keeps 24+hrs Without any electricity- Just Do NOT open it!!!! 100% back feeding (kill MAIN switch) We Run Fans, lights ( as needed ) ADD a “Soft Start” to your AirConditioner !!! A SMALL generator WILL run it (as necessary!!!). Also have a Second (SMALL) generator to power those little things. ie… 950watt unit will run 8+ hrs on 1 gallon / oil mix, will power coffee pot, small ac, lights & fans, computers, TV, games etc. just balance the Load. ONLY use your Larger unit to power Well, Freezers, Charge battery packs/solar gensets etc. lots more. Just ask a Gulf of Mexico coast resident. your

One of the best investments I made for my home was battery backup lightbulbs. Looks and works like a regular LED lightbulb in lamps and light fixtures. Power goes out, lights still work for about 5-8 hours. They will charge back up when you crank the generator back up. (Dont get the ones with the on/off button. Get the ones that automatically work when the power goes out)

It’s much better to have a top open freezer cause when you open it the air stays in your freezer unlike a stand upright every time you open the door all the cold air comes out

Our gennie is a tri-fuel unit so we tied it to our 500 gallon underground propane tank. I could run it for weeks on end however I will only run it for a few hours each day to recharge the 18kwh solar battery bank should it run low.

@kimandolife Thanks. Got the gennie from Home Depot before Covid hit for a song. Had an electrician buddy hard wire a 50 amp plug right into the main panel. Traded neighbor who does gas, 2 of our frozen chickens we raised and butchered on the property to run propane line. Solar set-up was expensive though. Generator will run whole house except for AC and wall ovens.

Buy an inverter and hook it up to your vehichles. Your vehicles can run alot more efficient than a generator.

Don't run the ethanol fuels either right? Those small engines require straight gas, and how are you siphing out of the cars? Don't they have screens or things to block a hose down the fuel neck?
@Battlbox4 ай бұрын
Non ethanol is preferred. You can still siphon. Just gotta know the tricks to do so if there is the need. Still totally doable

We have both solar and a very capable generator, we are getting a direct plug into the whole house.. yes it can handle that.. but I'm also wanting a battery backup for out solar just incase fuel is hard to come by or those days when the sun just isnt shining enough to charge up those batteries.. cause let me tell ya no AC in Florida is literal hell and i aint having it. We do not have gas hookup which in my opinion would be the very best opinion. 🤔 Maybe... Wait idk does gaskinea get cut off during storms?? Cause if so those folks up North would be frozen solid if so.. idk feel free to school me on this.. anyone who has knowledge on that.

You folks should have been storing gas for years now. They containers with fuel pumps. You should 4 wheel ATVS, guns, ammo, and at least 1 years worth of MREs and water stored up... But you don't, damn shame, isn't it.....🤔🙃🤷♂️🍺
