Omkar Narvankar ak203 is an assault rifle. A carbine is the same rifle but with a shorter barrel for more compact carrying and closer range operations. AK is a bad choice of carbine usage for its high recoil and long barrel usage. Easier to buy 5.56 rifles that have lower recoil and higher fire rate, ideal for close ranges.

@the creator If army really wanted to choose X95 than why did they chose Car 816 two years back even though they were having battle proven and indigenously manufactured X95? - because it is a bullpup varient and many soldiers are not comfortable with it and that's why even after being used by several units , army didn't chose it and this time there are high possibilites for SSS defence Carbine and PLRS Arad and Carmel carbine .

@the creator yes I know that and u are right that it may take atleast of 2 years to get huge orders for SSS Defence . But Iam sure that SSS Defence family of assault weapons have better future in Indian Market . Have a look towards its erogonmics , ambidextrous cocking mechanism, ambidextrous selective fire, the telescopic butstock which could also be folded and also a chikpad mounted on it , it seems to be that SSS Defence has designed these rifles to not only satisfy the Indian GSQR requirements, but also to MIL STD requirements of international standards.

No , Indian army will not Chose X 95 because it's a bullpup varient as already it has been used by CRPF and other units and F 90 which you mentioned - its not even competing in tender . If Army won't chose SSS defence Carbine ,there are 2 other better options - Arad and Carmel from same PLRS where X 95s are manufactured.

Let's first allow SSS P72 carbines to be tested in the Indian military standards, then make any assumptions, as the procedure requires vigorous testing before inducting...but will definitely request our army to consider testing SSS P72 carbine and provide some time with the feedback for modification, if at all required...

I like the overall ergonomics of the P72, it resembles FN-SCAR. It'll be far more convenient to negotiate close quarters with the P72, especially with attached accessories. Besides that, everything depends on the on-ground performance of P72, especially torture tests.

It takes about 3 months to build a modern 50 floor factory building. It takes about 3 months to outfit and start producing modern carbines. We can fly in machinery ASAP. SSS or CARACAL can both do it. No need to wait 3-5 years. Jai Hind

If I were to give an opinion.....I think a mixed bag would be more preferable...if in 93900 carbines the one half should be P72 5.56 variant as carbines of 7.62 calibre can affect accuracy and other half should be a mix between X95 and F90. If P72 stands out in the interim period as an excellent weapon then the rest to be requisitioned can be awarded to SSS defence.

as per the info provided by you only SSS manufactured carbines stand chance today which fulfill all the requirements of the Indian army. But the crucial question is that how long they will take to deliver initial numbers of 94k carbines to the army alongwith the required ammunition. Secondly, carbines of other companies also be given fair chance to resubmit their carbines with desired modifications to the army in the near future. this will ensure healthy competition, options and risk of monopoly of any of the companies. All companies if given chance to provide the initial 94k carbines combined together then it will cut off the time to minimal which is the most vital factor.

1st Priority should be SSS Defense. (Mr. Vivek Krishnan is very serious about the promises he has done on Livefest Channel). 2nd undoubtedly PLR because its a joint venture with IWI. Screw OFBs. They should Focus on How they will maintain the Quality Control and Quality Assurance for AK-203.

Let us not leave out the state police forces. Their outdated training regime, uniform, equipments, ration system and weapons; along with the mighty Indian Army, they need some serious upgrade as well. Among many others, the improvised xcaliber carbine from DRDO can be the standard issued weapon for the armed police forces. On a side note, I feel that small side arms should be the main weapon for the states' executive police forces- not ARs.
