HEYA! Hope you all enjoy today's episode 🥰 I'm still on vacation right now so I'm sorry for the lack of replies on your comments, but I've read some and I wanted to address the confusion regarding the binoculars + sniper scope I've seen from a few peeps: In this very video (I think? pretty sure. EDIT: yes, at 6:33 ) Master recommends using the binoculars to locate your enemy, then use the sniper rifle to shoot, because the scope of the sniper rifle is strong but veeery slow/short scope of view. So I'm just doing what the game recommends, and it made sense to me. Maybe some of you don't remember, so I would suggest you go play the game again if you can and use the sniper rifle. You'll understand how clunky and slow it is, and trying to find Sniper Wolf with it in that snowfield is a nightmare. On other matters, thank you so much for the continued support on this series. I've had some very lovely comments from you guys and I can't express enough how awesome it is to connect with like minded people who also think this game is a masterpiece ❤️ Other frequently asked question: yes, I will play MGS2 and 3 back to back! I'm currently playing MGS2 (already done with MGS). Thank you again and have an awesome day 🥰

heads up on some extra content in the menus of MGS2 that most miss, might make a good thing to read split up between videos if you want to: go to the menu labeled "Special" on the main title screen, you will find a newspaper review of a book and an article about there being online buzz about a Shadow Moses Conspiracy; after looking at those, it unlocks the book mentioned in the review, called IN THE DARKNESS OF SHADOW MOSES: THE UNOFFICIAL STORY, which is an account written by Natasha that starts during the events of MGS1 and ties to the two games together more. In terms of spoilers, it's ok to read when you want to.

I recently watched another popular content creator (who shall remain nameless) play through this franchise on Twitch, who was constantly more focused on reading live chat and cracking jokes than listening to CODEC calls or paying attention to cut scene dialog or what was happening in important moments, and then repeatedly found themselves confused and insisted that the story was too complicated to follow. And while watching someone fail and flounder at a game can be its own kind of entertaining, it's really not what makes the MGS series tick, imo. All that said: I just want to comment how incredibly satisfying it is to watch this playthrough in contrast to that one. Seeing someone experience this game for the first time and really pay attention to the story and the details well enough to not only comprehend things, but to be a step ahead of several major reveals (like the DARPA Chief / Octopus situation, the PAL code & key gambit, etc) is honestly commendable. You've done really great with this, and I can't wait to see your conclusion of this game, and your experience with future titles in the series! Aside from that: can you link the specific Terminator song you mentioned in the intro? I'm not familiar with that series and am very curious to hear it and compare!

Exactly my thoughts! I also can't stand it when the people have to constantly read the chat in the stream, greet people and be distracted by soundalerts or else. Nothing against streaming per se, anyone can do it anyway, but it just doesn't fit when it comes to such a story-driven franchise, where you really have to pay close attention to what's happening and what's being said. People should rather inform themselves in advance and then not let the community decide, or tell the community that they would like to play it alone!

After the M61 Vulcan cannon was created for fighter planes, the military asked General Electric to make a scaled down version to fire 7.62mm instead of 20mm, to put even more firepower in places where you'd normally have mounted machine guns. Helicopter door guns, on top of vehicles, fixed emplacements, etc. This scaled down version was naturally referred to as the "mini gun." Its still commonly used in the military, but its also become a Hollywood staple, seen in movies like Predator and Terminator 2 (though in real life it has far too much recoil for a person to handle and is only used as a mounted weapon). I feel like when they were designing Vulcan Raven, they wanted something to kind of have the same energy as those movies - a big scary dude with a big scary gun - but then said screw it, lets not not even settle for the "mini" gun, let's give him the full freaking size version.

Yes, Terminator was an inspiration. Metal Geat Solid isnt the first Metal Gear game. The song is from the original Metal Gear games which came out in the 80s. Not only was the song inspired by Terminator, the front cover of the 80s Metal Gear game also had the terminator character Kyle Reese, front and centre. When they reference Zanzabar, gray wolf, snake killing big boss etc, all that took place in the 80s Metal Gear games. I had no idea about those earlier games until years later, always thought Metal Gear solid was the first in the series.
@andrewlavigne44

I never knew about the earlier games until a second play through, when I found the Previous Missions file, and thought they made this crazy dense back story. "It's like another game happened! they should make a prequel!" was my exact thought.
@thesilencer8074

This is still ignoring that the main theme of Metal Gear was stolen from the composer Georgy Sviridov who, from his origins (RUSSIAN) and the time when he composed this, should not have used Terminator too much as a reference for his compositions. And I'm not even talking about the fact that he composed this well before Terminator came out. If there is any possible influence from this film, music is certainly not one of them. James Bond would be a much more important influence than Terminator for this series of games and in many many aspects. In reality, the concept of a solitary hero not resembling a bodybuilder like Kyle Reese (ironically or symbolically facing Schwarzenegger who was one) does not date from this film and the coincidences that can therefore easily be deduced from it are not may not really be what makes the beliefs of this kind of influence completely obsolete. The character itself is inspired by Van Damme's body and not by any Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese). And his code name is inspired by Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) in New York 1997 released a good 3 years before Terminator and resembling much much more the protagonist of this video game series. If only for the mini gun, Predator appeared well before Terminator 2, in fact it is also a more memorable tool and for a fan of films like Kojima is portrayed, there is little chance that he knows the Mini gun scene of terminator 2 without having known well before (around 4 years) that of Predator. So this is another shortcut that's easy to take.

ONE BULLET AND A DREAM LET'S GOOOO! The sniper fights in these games are always a wild ride. Major props to you, I'm so used to absolutely cheesing the Wolf fight with the Nikita that I'm not sure I could legitimately go toe to toe with her without several silly deaths. As a side note, I think sometimes people forget that not everyone has played through a game 100 times like they have, so they forget that people are going to have to experiment and try things to see what works. They don't just know the answer immediately. That's literally part of the fun. As I said before, this playthrough is a blast! Still absolute aces!

@@WhimsyPsyche The fights beyond Ocelot can definitely be hard the first time and especially in the 90s, I actually do remember having the exact same trouble with Gray Fox where I didn't realize you should fist fight him at all for like 10 tries and feeling stupid that I didn't get all the hints. I do think you can stun lock Sniper Wolf in one or both of the fights though, which I didn't find out for a few plays, like just rapid fire and get in half a health bar's worth of hits before she moves. (Maybe I'm thinking of MGS2?)

@@deathtoraiden2080 lol I feel ya. I mean it can be cool to see people who are so good at the game, they completely walk through everything on the hardest difficulty like it's nothing, but people have to recognize that is basically another genre of video. The guy who has memorized that pathing and is hyper efficient at every boss fight, was not that way his first play through of the game. So, as good as Whimsy is at games (looking at that no first person Nikita in the electric gas room 👀👀) it's unfair to expect that hyper efficiency from her. Besides, she definitely planned that Wolf boss fight to end on her last bullet for us, the audience's, benefit to build the tension. Like an Oscar winning director. Whimsy Spielberg :P

Sniper wolf fight is so much easier if you just follow her with the scope of the sniper rifle when she runs. You shoot and then follow her. I never change positions. Even if she shoots you. You started doing that then which was great. You figured it out. You can also kill her with the Nikita missile launcher. You can hide in the corner and just keep shooting the missile and just fly them right to her.

Fittingly enough, there’s actually an ancient Kurdish proverb that says “The Kurds have no friends but the mountains.” Historically a majority of other Middle Eastern races have unfortunately often had the tendency to look down on the Kurdish people and the mountainous region they hail from. The majority of The Middle East has historically viewed the Kurds as the Middle Eastern equivalent of Appalachian hillbillies and as such they often have been treated as backward and inferior. Their mountain home, often their only refuge from the rest of the surrounding countries aggression to them at worst and the rest of The International Community’s apathy to their suffering at best.

Speaking of Terminator. Have you ever seen how a lot of Konami games on NES etc, had cover art that was made off real reference pictures? Like the cover for Contra, the characters Bill and Lance were just Arnold Schwarzenegger from Predator. Snake on the cover art for Metal Gear was the guy from Terminator 1. There's a good video on KZbin about the artist. Called something like "Drawing Konami".
@NewAgeRed
@NewAgeRed 2 ай бұрын
Geez it was to hard to find the video with "drawing Konami". You'd think the KZbin search could figure out what you want. It was "The Man Who Drew Konami".

What's also funny, the music of MGS had issues with sounding too close to the Mission Impossible main theme....so in later numbers of the series, they changed main themes. But the music of the series is incredible!

Yes, the Ear Pull is a real thing. It was a traditional Inuit game to practice endurance and pain tolerance. They would loop a string from one ear to the opponent's (right ear to right ear, or left to left) and pull. Bleeding and even the need for stitching were quite common. Not practiced very much in the official games, anymore.

I was just thinking about the box. And how Snake hiding in a box has been a gag for years. Then I remembered one you may know. Or can look up safely without worrying about any spoilers. The Smash Bros Ultimate trailer for Switch. When every character is being hit by that light wave. When it shows Snake. It's a box. 🙃

There is a lill trick about the metal floors that make noise when u walk on them, if u spam equip and unequip chaff grenades it bypasses the sound of the metal floor, also the chaff grenade in hand makes u walk a tiny bit faster. I know u finished the game by now but just incase u ever replay it or so .. ^^ prob works in mgs2 also (not 100% sure)

I love the music of this game and others in the series. Yes Terminator has multiple influences in this series including that song, but sadly there's also a slight issue of plagiarism in the main theme too. I believe they couldn't use the theme anymore after mgs 4 as it was found that part of the song is a quite straight copy of a song by a russian composer.

Been loving watching this playthrough, MGS blew my mind back in the day - I love that it still holds up so well, even if its control scheme is really from another time. I hope you decide to play MGS2 afterwards, but if not - thats fine, MGS as fantastic on its own regardless. Also, sucks to see shitty comments from smallbrain backseaters, hopefully you have mods that get rid of em :P

During Sniper Wolf's second boss fight, i go to the far right behind a little mountain and use the nikita. She can't hit you there, and the rockets can go up where Snake is able to walk (post-fight). Also, you can't spare the bosses, and the game will explain why very soon. I'm pretty sure that the cover art of Metal Gear 1 is simply the terminator or something like that.

Hello! I'm enjoying your journey soooo much! Buuuuuut I think you think this is the first Metal Gear, but it isn't. Before this game (Metal Gear Solid) there was "Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear 2" on the NES. On those games you fight against Big Boss. All the talk about Zanzibar and Frank Jaeger, that happens on those games. I suggest you take a look at those games so you get the full previous information. This girl has 2 great videos about the story of those games: Metal Gear Summary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmLVeIJprdGHj7csi=BwpJK473PP_NTdBF Metal Gear 2 Summary: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWaqfZWvfJqWnKMsi=8uXZDnCKPHGRNhls Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your super thanks, that's SO kind!! Yes I knew already about previous older games, but the Master Collection seems to be treating MGS 1 to 3 as a trilogy in a way. I was scared of spoilers so I didn't check the story of the previous games, but MGS does a good job of acknowledging them and mentioning them without it being too confusing imo. Didn't stop me from understanding the plot of this one, so in my humble newb experience, I would say it's not necessary to know all the plot of the previous games. I might be wrong though!

@@WhimsyPsyche Ok gotcha! Because I think it is important, I made you a 100% spoiler-free summary for both games as short as I could: Metal Gear: A misterious mercenary on Africa has created an army group called Outer Heaven and has built a super weapon called Metal Gear. So the USA sends an expert soldier called Gray Fox to investigate, but he gets captured. U.S.A. sends a rookie, Solid Snake, to continue the mission, under the orders of his commanding officer: Big Boss (yes… I know). You eventually find Metal Gear and destroy it, then on your way to escaping Outer Heaven, you meet the misterious mercenary leader: Big Boss. Plot twist! Turns out he sent Snake to this mission so he could send false information to the USA government and fail the mission, but the turned out to be an awesome soldier. So you kill Big Boss, destroy Outer Heaven and escape. END. Metal Gear 2: There’s a millitary uprising on Zanzibar (Asia), so Solid Snake gets to action under his new commanding officer: Colonel Roy Campbell. Master Miller, an old pal, helps you also on the mission via Codec. This group has a new Metal Gear... and eventually you find out that Big Boss is behind this new uprising. Turns out you didnt kill him, he is alive. Hoooooours later you find Gray Fox, who now wants to fight you. Why? He now works for Big Boss who turned him against USA, so you fight Gray Fox because now you're enemies and kill him. Then you find Big Boss and kill him again. END. Repeating myself: Thank you so much! I'm enjoying this series of videos so much. It's amazing to see someone so meticulous like you realizing step by step how Hideo Kojima is a genius ahead of his time. 🤩
