For 2001, this ending really was a profound moment in games. he saw were social media would be going. in 2001 there was no facebook, no insta, no youtube, no tiktok. nothing. back when i played the game when it was new, i didnt even grasp what was going on. it was much much MUCH later when i actually understood its ending.

First of all, Kojima was not the only writer for MGS1-2-3, the other was Fukushima, and looks like he's much more learned in politics and philosophy. Second, postmodernists wrote about fragmentation and segregation of the media and cultural space much earlier, in the 70s and 80s. Third, information control of the Net was very important theme through the 90s, when WWW became widespread. So to call Dojima prophetic is wrong. MGS2 was not created as a 'prophecy', it was based on well-known facts from modern philosophy, and on the current politics of the time.
@99Lezard99
@99Lezard99 Ай бұрын
@@MetalGearyaTV i didnt want to make it seem like the game was downright prophetic tho. just that it is extremly remarkable for a videogame at the time to pull these kind of themes in that time. i mean the www was still in its infancy and it pretty much developed into what mgs2 made it sound like. also i wasnt expecting kojima was the first person ever to have these ideas. but he or they put them in this game back then.

Back when I first played this as a kid I had no memory card for my PS2, so I would have to keep restarting again every time. One time I managed to get to the arsenal gear area, and it was almost midnight. Everyone had gone to sleep and my mam was shouting me to get to bed from upstairs. Then the colonel starts telling me to turn the game console off combined with the music and everything getting weird at that time of night all alone as a kid really sent a vibe.

The first time I played this part back in the PS2 days, when the Colonel really breaks the 4th wall, I HAD been playing for quite a while that session. It was my weekend after all. So, whe the Colonel talks to the player and not Raiden, I paused the game and left my dorm room to take a break... and get a grip. 😂 It was the most profound WTF moment of my gaming life. Nothing before or since has struck me like that did. Props to Kojima for blindsiding me and lots of other players with that one.

Raiden is the player because WE are the ones played fool the whole time not understanding what's going on. Raiden is the player's representation of us in-game, and we are the ones believing and thinking about the similarities of the Shadow Moses Incident, the VR training missions we know from the past game in which this game use effectively to demonstrate that Raiden (us) has experience which is false as the AI makes us think it is true ( we are the ones that were in that VR "training" having played the first game).

If you're confused about the line Ocelot gives about the supernatural not existing. Know that that is unfortunately a mistranslation. In the original script he says what amounts to: *_"With todays technology, you can even create miracles"_* He doesn't dismiss supernatural ability as he knows about ppl like Mantis and Raven. But rather that advanced technology can also make these things happen.

One thing to note with Rose is at some point it switches from the real rose to an AI one. The evidence of this is her voice glitching in the same way as the colonel's towards the end of the game. The point of the switch from what I can tell is when Rose tells Raiden that's she's a patriot spy and that she's pregnant because at this point they don't know if she will continue with the plan as instructed.

the way the end of this game overloads the player with so much information really breaks you down and makes you vulnerable to suggestion like Raiden has been. The toughest thing about people playing through this series is that when they do it live or have it on youtube like you have done, Everyone wants to let you know how much *they* know the game which may or may not be on spoiling information... kind of like bragging in a way when all it does is sour the experience for the first timers. Watch out for that! You are 100% doing the right thing and not doing this live with chat! play to your own style which has absolutely impressed me to no end! Using the codec is a big thing modern kids dont do that play this (because they rely on chat). I honestly cannot wait for you to continue this series and will 100% be watching all of them. Thank you so much for this because seeing someone new play the series is like reliving how us older people did back in the day! You are actually at the top of my list for people playing this. I was a 13 year old kid when I played this game. I remember exactly when and where I was when I beat it. I had gone to visit my dad for the weekend, because my parents had divorced, and I brought my ps2 to my dad’s place. I played through the night, and finished the game just as the sun was rising. Needless to say, the last couple of hours were a literal fever dream. When I did finish it… I legitimately thought I might have hallucinated some or all of it. It was also the first video game I had ever beaten. So I got a double-whammy hit of confusion brought on by lack of sleep, plus the post-ending feeling you get when an experience like this is over. The after-game withdrawals, or whatever you might call them Despite all that, I loved my experience with it, and it was incredibly memorable. I’ve loved your playthrough, as always! 1:28:21, this section of the video is called, "Plot Twisted!" Twisted indeed, twisted and tangled enough to make the Gordian Knot look in awe and Alexander the Great say, "I may need a chainsaw for this."

Just finished fully watching this whole video.. comments: 1) I love how emotional you got when you saw Snake. 2) your reaction to your game play is always hilarious and funny, it’s the reason I watch. Oh and your French is adorable… don’t apologize for it! 3) I love how you figured out the whole story and underling topics before it was revealed, and I love your deep discussions it really makes us all think about things and life.

Such a huge joyride to see this game in action again! Forgot a lot of details since I last played it in the early 2000’s. Having watched you playing it has been great, awesome job with everything 🎉 Really cool cosplay as well!

The best game of all time. Loved seeing you play and being invested in the story. Your reaction to seeing your name on the dog tags is the same I had when I played at 9 years old, it blew my mind because I was also very invested in the story, so seeing your name in the game really hits different

I saw Max Derrat's video on the codec speech in early 2021 and began exploring this series' games and lore. It helped me form a plot for a novel I've almost finished. Inspiration only of course. MGS2 is perhaps the most unique game experience I've ever been priviledged to find...by accident. It is so rich and mysterious in story and character, and political philosophy. Bravo, Mr. Kojima!

Sons of Liberty is my favorite Metal Gear game. I got this and Final Fantasy X for Christmas in 01 and I replayed both games so much. At first I was disappointed Raiden replaced Snake but I quickly came to love the socially awkward dork. His past is tragic but I love how Snake takes him under his wing kind of like Batman did the various Robin characters. If Solidus is Raiden's adoptive father Snake is his uncle by extension. The gameplay in Sons of Liberty is so ahead of it's time and Whimsey didn't even scratch the surface of how you can interact with things for stealth purposes which adds to replay. The big shell is one big playground to find Easter eggs and secrets add so much to it's replay value.

Thank you for your playthrough and commentary, so good to have someone like you fostering discussion and inspiring new thoughts surrounding this masterpiece. A second (and multiple thereafter) playthrough is sensational when you not only can further master the controls but understand the full narrative more as events are occuring, with all the significances unlocked for you. MGS 3, 4 and V next? MGS3 is possibly the best, I hope you enjoy it.

I'm impressed by how perceptive you are during your play-throughs. Obviously it's pretty difficult to know 100% of what's going on in any MGS game before the big reveals come, but a lot of your theories throughout your play throughs have almost always been on the right track. Can't wait to see you do the rest of the series.

Whimsy I think it's safe to say you love this series and the characters😊 that moment when you cried when snake came back we all felt that. The series has influenced so many games after it. Kojima is a master Storyteller and his games are more than just for fun and they are a reflection of society. There are more plot twists and reveals in later games but they are all good.

This franchise is so good that its less popular titles are still amazing. (mainly mgs 2 and 5 and a bunch of spin offs canon or otherwise). I just discovered your channel because of your mgs series and you are very entertaining. Also the blondie song reference made me chuckle 🤣. there is always room for a song reference in everything. English is my second language too and i hear song lyrics EVERYWHERE🤣

Enjoyed that playthrough! Was a good rediscovering of the journey that is the mgs2 convoluted plot lol. Im hyped for MGS3 which was my fav as a kid (mgs2 is probably my fav as an adult), But with the MGS3 remake coming, im of two minds on whether i want to save rediscovering that story watching you play it, or in the remake later this year. As the cutscenes and dialogue is a 1 to 1 copy. We shall see!

That was great! Your videos are by far the best MGS playthrough I've ever seen. I really enjoy how you immerse yourself in the lore and make up your own theorizes that often turn out to be true, despite all the crazy plot twists 😄 I gotta say though, that MGS2 isn't among my favorite MGS titles, as the story gets a bit too crazy for my liking, so I'm really really looking forward to your MGS3 playthrough as that is my favorite MGS title (both gameplay and story wise), heck one of my favorite games of all times even! I also hope you will play MGS4 (my 2nd favorite MGS title) as well, although I guess that has to wait until it becomes available for your consoles.

MGS 2 is my favorite for its thought provoking narrative and especially because I realized I am Raiden. He is me. As a player, you want to be Solid Snake, and you question everything you think about yourself and your reality. Solid Snake is a character yes but also a construct, an idea to aspire to. That being said respect to you for doing this video. I wished I could have filmed my first time...also great costume!

Hey whimsy it was so much fun experiencing your thoughts and comments around this game! I'll leave you a suggestion for this game, tell me if it sounds cool to you. I would suggest you to go deeper into the game's marketing and reactions people had after the release of the game and exploring the different topics touched in the game and their interpretations. There are tons of very good of those in KZbin to react after you beat the game! Then doing like an mgs2 after-hour talk video to get your impressions because this game is DENSE af and very mind blowing. 🤯 Really loving your videos and reactions on this franchise because you really seem into the atmosphere these games offers, analyzing and hearing all the codecs. It has been a fun ride! Take care and enjoy the rest of your playthroughs! 😃 Looking forward to MGS3 🎉

What a journey! You are by far the best MGS streamer I’ve watched. And as a MGS nerd, I’ve been watching a lot lately! One thing I’ve noticed, back in the day, there was so much discomfort playing as Raiden, outrage!! But everyone I’ve watched who’s playing for the first time, has no problem with it and take to him very quickly. I, of course, like most now love Raiden and the balls on Hideo for doing it! I guess MGS 2 really was one of the first to do it! It’s more common place now, I dunno. Cannot wait for Snake Eater! It’s my favourite game of all time. It’s pretty good.

about the Ray fight...I think it's impressive that by missing the intended strategy to fight them (shoot a leg, it opens it mouth, shoot the mouth) you struggles so much with that fight that you ended up developing a far more advanced strategy. Repeatedly baiting out the hydro laser attack after recognizing that it's scripted to perform it everytime you close the distance as it's using it's machine gun arm...pretty genius. Next time I play the game I will definetly use that strategy combined with the intended strat, I always thought the fight was fun but very repetitive and this helps alot to compensate for the latter

You got it 100% correct regarding how Raiden was handled, it was intentional and it was part of the theme of the game, Snake is such a great character that the game makes it a point to tell you: You see this amazing guy? You won't get to be him for the rest of the game. Game intentionally has you put your expectations of wanting Raiden to be like Snake, only for him to fail to meet them, because with everything said and done: He is NOT Snake, he is in complete turmoil over it, and it's not until he decides to be himself and pick up his own identity that he finally gains a semblance of self (the fact the final act opens with Raiden naked is basically his brutal rebirth, his entire persona laid bare before your own eyes). It's normal to not care too much for Raiden on your first run, once you replay the game a couple times on your end and get to MGS4, and Rising, you'll get to appreciate his plight better!
