You made the bevel grinding look so easy. If anyone has tried it themselves, they know that it is one of the hardest parts of the process to make it clean and even on each side! Great work and loved the video.

I usually like 20-30 minute videos. That said, you were telling a good story, and the extra time flew by with me enjoying every minute. Nothing wrong with an hour video if it is filled with great content. They can be boring if they are filled with long scenes of tedious processes (like grinding and sanding). In other words, the length of the video is immaterial if you fill it with great content. Beyond that, that knife turned out awesome, and have never seen someone used the same technique with the bevels.

You need a B-Roll of your projects at the end. A series of shots in close up and shifting light with a neutral backdrop. Otherwise the audience doesn't feel like they've gotten a good look of the finished work.

Watch it with when using a file jig because I've done two knifes using one and for two weeks now I'm in hell of a amount of pain in my thumb and fingers also pins and needles! I'm worried now I've done permanent nerve damage because it is not getting any better and I am struggling to use my right hand

I’m so glad I watched this. It explained a lot of questions I did have except putting a distal taper on. Do you have a video that explains how to do this?
@derangedmetalworks9489
@derangedmetalworks9489 Жыл бұрын
A distal taper is a gradual taper of the flat section of the blade. Making the thickest part of the blade at the guard area, and the thinnest at the tip. It is easier to grind a distal taper before grinding the bevels. Essentially you are making the entire blade into a long gradual wedge shape. I hope that this has helped to explain a distal taper for you.

A piece of old train track or block of steel for an anvil (find these on ebay for around 30-45$), a small butane forge (a Mr. Volcano forge is like 70$) or a hole in the ground with a hair dryer, an angle grinder (20$), and a 3$ rebar rod. Make yourself a pair of tongs. Then you can make knives :). You'll want a decent vice too at some point.
