I love how the actual living area is separated from the garage which can be turned into an additional living/sleeping area. I’d definitely be hauling my Harley in that.

Friends we do a lot of camping with had a simulair size set up. They used it as bunk house for their two kids. Living area was small. Rear worked great for there kids. They were able to find camp grounds that would except rigs that size, but had difficulty get in space because of narrow roads in campground. Trees became an issue do to height of rig. Rig also took up most of parking spot and they had to find place to park tow viechle. Their 3500 ram dually also wore out tires quickly, I believe from weight of rig ( over 2000 miles of towing each year). Ultimately they traded it on something smaller. The size gave them too many annoying problems to overcome the room in camper.

JD, one thing I would love for you to start showing is where the dump pulls are located on each RV you review. For instance, on the one we have, I have to get on the ground and crawl underneath because of the way the black tank pull is positioned....if we had paid attention to that, we would have definitely skipped over this particular RV. I use your reviews as a way to determine what we want to look at for our next RV. I will definitely say, I think you just found it for us! I'm sitting here looking at my spot trying to determine if a 44' will fit or if I am going to have to convince the mgmt of the park to let us have the open spot that we want 😉 so I could fit the 44' in and put down the back deck. Thanks for sharing this one!

Cable slides are used on all Open Range campers as far as I have seen. Two of my slides are big and heavy with a residential fridge also included. Hope your scenarios do not develop. Most failures I have seen online are cable break or motor gearbox issue which are not that difficult to address. I am starting my fourth year with the Open Range with good service of the cable slides.

I am just waiting for a company to realize that there is a growing market for people who are internet based, living on the road full time that do not want or need multiple TV's. They might also have a family with kids which should have their own room/area. I watch all of your reviews and have yet to see a setup built for computers and small, yet comfortable sleeping areas while retaining a really good kitchen. I guess a tiny house on wheels will continue to be the path for such people but it seems like a market that the more experienced manufacturer's should be investigating.

I think I would do a custom layout on a rig this size. I love the extra space the toy hauler gives, even though I don't own quads or bikes of any kind. I do however have grandchildren so, to customize this space better I would make some changes. The laundry hook ups are an awesome feature in the garage which allows for full size machines. But... I think I would push that dividing wall, washroom etc.. back into the garage area by at least 2-3 feet in order to increase my living space. So many other things I would change with this layout. But I love it!

I've always been intrigued in campers and love watching videos on them. I appreciate what you do and a lot of other people do as well. To touch upon the statement you made at the end, I have always been searching through every toy hauler floorplan from every rv manufacture for layout that offers something different, and you touched upon it. Toyhaulers are amazing but they dedicate way too much space to the garage. I'd like to know the percentage of people who buy a toy hauler for the purpose to tow a side by side or quads. The majority of people I've seen on KZbin actually like to convert that back room into a master and turn the front bed room into the bunk house. It would be awesome if they did about a 5 or 6 foot garage space to store bikes and wood and other outdoor gear you might bring. Also, idk about you but i've never been a big fan of a massive slide on the camp side of the rv.

A toy hauler is one of the floor plans I've been looking at because of my unconventional family status. I live with my elderly dad and the two of us would want separate bedroom areas and unless I become independently wealthy sometime soon I wouldn't need to work so having garage area as a bedroom/office is helpful. My thought would be to remove the couches and add a second bed for another person if my sister decided to come visit but then take a desk and attach it somewhere in the garage area. I do like this particular models half bath as it's a little bit nicer than some of the other toy hauler Brands I've seen and doesn't include a shower like others.

They should put a small eighteen or twenty four in slide on the right side to make it easier to get into bed and make the bed.
@Milesco
@Milesco 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that's not possible because where would the slide go when it's _in?_ The bed is right up against the wall so there's no room for the slide to go. However, the problem is vastly reduced, if not almost eliminated, in RVs where they turn the bed 90 degrees and put the head of the bed in the slide. That opens up a *_lot_* of space in the bedroom. I don't know why *all* 5th wheel manufacturers don't do it that way.

Thats a beautiful rig. Its worth mentioning the pin weight at 3480 Lbs. You need to be mindful of the rig length. Just an example, In California the limit is "40 feet for 2- or more axle fifth wheel travel trailer". In Texas, you can tow up to a 45 ft length trailer... but the combined length is limited to 65ft. ...Guess you wont be camping outside of Texas. New-Mexico is 40ft max, Louisiana 35ft max, Arkansas Total length: 53 feet 6 inches; trailer length: 28 feet (dont go there buddy, with the truck youre way pass 53ft), Oklahoma 40ft.

Side question, I'm a little fuzzy on the numbers when it comes to trailers and I know you have explained it before. When I look at them should I be looking at the GVWR of the trailer to size up to my truck or is there a specific number I should be looking at?

This is one of the first 5th wheels that I MIGHT consider. I would like to see what other floor plans are available in this unit. The living area/kitchen look cramped. I would like to ditch that huge sofa and do a love seat and small dining table to break the area up. I think those fold up stools are ugly and would just piss off someone trying to walk by. We would do storable stools and pull out when needed. LOVE the back hauler area. Carpet it and throw some chairs in for guests. I hate the exterior paint scheme. Hopefully that can be changed. Would love for you to include in your presentation the price tag on units. Thanks and great job !!

Holy crap! That thing is huge! One question though, if it has 3-7000 lb axles and then assume at least 1500 lbs on the hitch shouldn't the GWV be 22,500? Is there something about 3 axles that means you can't add it up? Or maybe it's structural? Anyway I have a 285 and haul motorcycles on a small trailer behind it. I'm not real happy with my small trailer, it's too bouncy, but it works. Motorcycles don't need to be inside. Of course backing up a tandem is nearly impossible, but I put a wheel jack on the front of the small trailer so in most cases we can just detach and push it to the back of the campsite with the bikes still on before backing in the rig. Then we typically re-hook the small trailer so it doesn't pop up when walking the bikes down. It's pretty light, 1500 lb capacity, but that is more than enough for a couple of dirt bikes which typically weigh about 300 lb each. In theory I could carry 5, but there is no way I could fit 5 on it. Maybe 3. I carry 2 and that requires a lot of strapping because of how bouncy the trailer is. And yes I tried lowering the air pressure in the tires but the torsion springs just don't flex. I am not a fan of torsion springs. They don't flex unless near capacity. Instead they just shake the heck out of your cargo.

Given that most parks have a 40ft rv space, how does one find room for this? Very nice for backwoods rving tho.

Keystone is notorious for poorly working heating systems. They come on but don't distribute warm air very well. A F350 dually or GMC 3500 dually tows these easily.

It's actually the same systems that pretty much all brands use, including DRV, Luxe, Alliance, Riverstone, and Grand Design

Would I need a DRW to tow this? I agree. I'd maybe delete the toy area. Make more luxury of living room. Winter PKG. For all year round use. What do you think?

Alexander malm, we actually have been living full time in this unit (415) for about 6 months now. We pull ours with a Ford SRW F-350. No issue with weight limits, we are close to max on our truck cargo though. Our truck pulls this easily and safely. No problems in windy conditions either. The third axle on the camper makes all the difference, as does proper weight distribution when we are pulling it. I’m a over the road truck driver, so I know a thing or two about towing. Ours camper had no issue with water lines or such this past winter. Actually it was pretty efficient we thought. The electric fireplace kept it warm during the day, about 65 degrees, and the furnace would kick on every hour or two at night. Our temps got down in the teens and low 20’s at night and in the mid 30’s during the day. Our two propane tanks last about 10 to 12 days before needing refilled. Hope this helps!

I don’t think you have done a single Cedar Creek 5th wheel review. You should check them out. I am particularly interested in the rear kitchen models, I hate center islands. Just makes the trailer look so cluttered and wastes space.

Are you allowed to tow this with a regular car drivers licence in the US or do you need extra licensing?
@BigTruckBigRV

Many states require an upgraded license. It's generally called a Class A (either CDL or NonCDL depending on the state). Many states do not require an upgraded license though
