Yeah clips would've been much better if context was added. Most of those were decisive goals scored in crucial times, sometimes with backstories stretching back decades, like the Iniesta winner in the World Cup final at 3:44. Holland and Spain were the two biggest footballing nations not to win the World Cup at that point. Iniesta's goal meant Spain won their first ever WC, kick starting a successful era for them. Earlier in the game, Arjen Robben had a gilt edge chance that he missed for Holland that could've won them the trophy. It was a very costly miss. So as fate would have it 4 years later, at the next World Cup, Spain and Holland faced each other in their opening games for that tournament. That's where at 4:52 comes in. Robben scored the 5th goal in a 5-1 trashing of the defending champions to top off a brilliant performance that day.

Soccer is simple, every kid can learn rules in 5 minutes, and you can play it with any number of people. 16:54 To give more context: That was a World Cup semi-final, in France. France was down 0-1. Lilian Thuram was a defender, he’s not supposed to score much. But there’s an interesting fact which made that moment very special: Thuram is actually the man who has played the most games under the french national jersey in history (142 games in total, a record for his country). In 142 games played for France, he only ever scored 2 goals. Just 2. Both of these goals, he scored in the very semi-final that is displayed in the video. Making his country go from 0-1 to 2-1 in the span of a few minutes. For the record, he was the one who gave away the goal to the Croatian team in the first place, that came from a mistake he made. Thuram, by himself, qualified his country, and France ended up winning the whole tournament. His only 2 goals in his 142 international games/15 year carrer. Sometimes, it just takes one game, just a few minutes, to become a legend.

I'm Brazillian, so I guess I can talk a little about football. Football is such a great sport, it touches so many people. Bin dippers
@OldDevlin2 жыл бұрын
@@thequietman760 For EtS guys, this insult (bin dippers) comes from the 80s when Thatcher's Tory government brutalised working class communities. It hit Liverpool especially hard, with record breaking numbers of people having to leave their homes to move elsewhere where there were more job opportunities. Liverpudlians really fell on hard times and became some of the poorest people in England. As a result of their poverty, and children going hungry, Mancs went the classy route of declaring Liverpudlians (scousers) as "bin dippers", insinuating that's how they got their food...digging through garbage. So, the supposed "bin dippers" insult is a great example of an insult saying more about the user than the perceived victim. Mancs, using working class poverty and hungry children as something to mock and laugh at. Ironically, Liverpool is doing well for itself nowadays, and is economically better off than Manchester, was Europe's first Capital of Culture, and has lower crime statistics than Manchester, but Mancs being a little slower than most other people, still cling on to a 40 year old insult which is as outdated as their city. One day they'll realise that saying "bin dippers" only backfires on them and leaves everybody laughing at their expense. Welcome to the 21st century, Manchester 😂

That Liverpool comeback against Barcelona in the semi-final of the CL was the best game I've ever had the privilege of watching live. Being 3-0 down after the first leg against Messi and Barca is something that almost no other team could overcome and they did.

The fact that we did it without Salah or Firmino…..absolutely incredible. My dad had zero belief we could turn the semi final around. But as I pointed out to him, when it comes to the Champions League, never write us off if we’re 3-0 down at the halfway point! 11:09 - "controlled chaos". That's a really great description of the entire game to be honest. From the perspective of a Brit, most American sports seem to stop and start all the time, brief moments of brilliance between periods of waiting around (honourable exception of basketball, which I think is great). Football moves, is fluid like liquid and even seems alive at times. That's the beauty of it.

The atlanta has a sort of inspiration in the Newell's old Boys of Rosario Argentina. Can be speculated that the colors of the team came from there, the team has had many of Newell's related players over the years and also their first Trainer and the 2020 2021 trainer came from the same institution, club wich also by chance formed messi when young and had Maradona play for it for a season. For a sport to grow it needs the experience, the feel, the passion. If it feels too commercial it just falls flat. Hope you can grow a good fan base there

I was told "practice makes permanent so you'd better get it right or you will become an expert at doing it wrong." You said how good it must feel scoring a goal or winning goal in a world cup final but how about scoring three in a world cup final including the winner and knowing you are the only person in history to do it. You'll know football has really taken off in the States when there are local leagues made up of local bars playing in nearby parks all playing for the love of the game. Throughout the world that is where the majority of the game is played. The guy you saw scoring at 13:01 was released at the age of 16 by his club. He then got a normal job but played on a weekend for a local semi professional team earning £30 per week. He was spotted and sold to a low league professional team for £15,000 and gradually worked his way back up the leagues and finished up winning a league title an FA Cup (where he became the first player to play in every round of the competition including the preliminary stages) and playing for his country. Stories like his are why the game is so popular throughout the world.

As an ardent Football fan all my life watching this compilation I had goosebumps over & over again because I remember most of them since 1990 but actually have contextual memory towards the older videos as I know my football history, great video, honestly you guys should pick a Premier league side, mine is Tottenham and just go with it for a season try and catch every game, by the time the World Cup arrives in Nov this year your both gonna be ready to support the USA side with everything you have, I guarantee it .

12:38 FYI, at that time, even supporters from the opponent team stood up to applaud that goal. It's that beautiful.

I'm glad I found this channel! it's refreshing to see Americans willing to try to understand and appreciate 'the beautiful game'! Football is ingrained into the culture in the majority of the world, it certainly is here in England! :) It's full of fascinating tales and passion and it becomes easy to see why it is a religion to many ("football isn't life and death. It's far more important that that!" (sic)). I've been a Manchester City fan for 34 years now and while many will know them as the club that got rich and famous from Arab investors, I remember us being relegated twice in the late 90's, the passionate rivalries with United through the years and never once thinking we would ever be successful in my lifetime. That's just one of millions of stories that make this such a special sport :)

In context there are thousands of televised minutes of football every week & some of these goals are truly a rarity & don't come all the time , if you are lucky enough to witness a top class goal it's a lifelong memory for a fan.

You know whats one of the weirdest parts, its almost like the person who made this video doesnt like United. United winning the treble is not one of the beautiful moments in football but a Stevie G long range shot is one, like we've seen him and Scholes hit those so many times

To put things in perspective, there are 32 NFL teams, so the team that wins the Superbowl are better than 31 other teams. In the World Cup there are 207 nations. So the winners are better than 206 other nations.

@@rorz999 You've got to remember places like, say, here in the UK, yeah, we are one country, but it's a union of 4 nations... England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland... All of them eligible for the World Cup [And Euro's]. And there are many countries the same, so the figures do indeed sharp tot up!

As a Welshman, Wales beating Belgium in the European Championships, was one of the greatest wins in European football.. Especially as we came from behind to do so, and then progress to the Semi-finals for the first time in our footballing history... Gareth Bale is a god

Americans which I am from NC, always think the Super Bowls important most not knowing the World Cup or maybe the olympics are but pretty sure World Cup is the most watched sports event in the world

I'm a Rangers fan from Scotland, and we've had some amazing players from the USA in the last decade or so, Claudio Reyna, Maurice Edu, DeMarcus Beasley, and currently James Sands.

I've played for thirty years and can tell you that the feeling, when you realize the ball you played goes into the goal, is the best feeling possible. It's a shot of endorphine you only know when you once score for yourself.

9:07. I was at that game. Coventry City v Everton. Willie Carr and Ernie Hunt, for Cov, my team, performing the 'donkey kick' free kick. At the end of that season the 'donkey kick' was ruled an illegal free kick. Something you guys might not know and may explain why football fans are so passionate about their clubs is the History. The Oldest recognised club is Sheffield FC, founded in 1857. The oldest recognised club still in existance is Royal Antwerp FC, founded in 1860. My club Coventry City FC was founded in 1883.

Leicestershire odds of winning the Premier league was 5000-1. It was a big deal to even make it look like it was possible. I was in a Portuguese Bar and they turned off an Italian game to watch the Leicester game! So it was even a "thing" in Portugal!

As an American, soccer is my favorite sport to both play and watch. To put it in context to other Americans, the passion that soccer fans have around the world is comparable to SEC college football fans but 5x (Also the word “soccer” originated in England, and the sport was exported to America that way; so y’all can stop blaming us for that)
